  1. Snow on them thar hills! Temp dropped to 2.1c overnight, now we have bits of sunshine and clouds but I know the rain isn't very far away. Interesting drive into Portree yesterday. Drove through rain, sleet and hail and there was a covering on the roads in Portree so a wee bit slippy underfoot. However, an hour and a half later it was gone and I enjoyed a walk in the sunshine, all the time keeping an eye on the clouds which were building up. Looks more promising during the week. Be nice to get out for a walk without getting wet!
  2. Good morning from a lovely sunny Skye! Well, after me saying that it was unlikely that we'd have a power cut last week, we did! Around about 9pm. I couldn't be bothered faffing around lighting my now clean lamps, so I found myself a torch and a wee battery operated lantern and went to bed with a good book! I was asleep pretty quickly ( so the book couldn't have been that good! ) and the power was off for maybe an hour, or so I was told. Quite lucky in that many parts of the Island were still without power at 3pm the next day. Since then we've had rain, hail, sleet, mist, drizzle and snow on the mountain tops. Weather was pretty cruddy over the weekend but I did manage to get into the veg patch and prep the raised beds with plenty of compost. Yesterday I was cutting down the ever present brambles and laying cardboard down on veg garden paths. I did, off course, completely overdo it and was more than a wee bit achy last night. Today I will pace myself and have plenty of wee rests and fill up on tea and biccies. 'Tis the only sensible choice! Current temp 7.4c and blue skies. Love it!
  3. Well, seeing as how we are forecast some blawiness and blusteriness later today I decided to clean up my oil lamps ( just in case! ) This is a sure fire way of guaranteeing no power failures! It's been a wee bit blawy this morning and I await with interest the evening weather. I personally don't think it'll be that bad where I am, but the northwest of Skye and the Western Isles will probably get most of the gustiness. I'm hopeful it won't turn out to be too bad. ?️
  4. Well, hasn't the weather been kind to us this week? Another stoater of a day ahead, cloud clearing and plenty of blue sky now on show. Daffs are at the stage where they are beginning to bow their heads so I expect some in bloom soon. Another walk ahead today to make the most of the sunshine. Really does improve the mood and chase the Covid blues away! Should also get some more garden tidying done over the next few days. I see that Tuesday evening/night could be a bit on the fresh side, so will keep an eye on that one. Current temp is 3.1c, very calm and sunny. Love it!
  5. Well, after what can only be described as a particularly sh1tty week of Scottish weather, spring has finally arrived! On Tuesday I recorded a 62mph gust and Wednesday wasn't much better. The driveway was like a river but all the ditches did their job well. Now it is calm, sunny with a temp of 11c so a wee spell in the garden today to start the much needed weeding. It's looking good for the coming wee too, so I'm going to make the best of it with as many walks as I can cram in. Hips and knees are beginning to seize up, which is not good!
  6. Morning Grumplings! Well, yesterday started out lovely so I took myself off for a good hour's walk and felt a squillion times better for it! And then the rain arrived bang on time just before 1pm. Wind arrived mid afternoonish and the rest of the evening was pure p1sh. It's not looking terribly hopeful for the rest of the week, an outside chance of some dryish conditions on Friday. I checked the charts on here and look what I found. I mean, really?????
  7. Aye, Hullaw frae Squelchville. Rained constantly all week, driven sideyways by the howling winds. We have an occasional break in the breeziness which is when I head out to fill the coal bucket. Not much chance of a walk of any duration this week. Maybe a wee teeny break tomorrow morning. If there is I'm outta here! Need to move and stretch the legs and move the hips and knees which are threatening to seize up. If all else fails it'll be a dance around the sitting room. Which always amuses ( or bores ) the cats. Currently 10c and p1sh. Happy days ahead at some point with dry weather I hope. Just can't see any break in this rubbish that we're getting just now. Which is pants. Hope it's better where you are.
  8. Windy. Horizontal rain. Very mild, topped out at 10c yesterday but felt colder because of the wind. 5.2c here just now. Pure pants and no sign of any improvement on the horizon. Aye, definitely back to normal Skye weather!
  9. Morning all! Yesterday's temp topped about 7.8c, and rather breezy! I recorded a 58.4mph gust late afternoon and a tree was toppled elsewhere in the village. Mild again this morning at 8.1c, so a little light gardening this morning I think.
  10. Bit of a change this morning! 8C! Snowfall yesterday lasted all of 10 minutes, very light powdery stuff. Now we have very blustery winds, yesterday had a gust of 43.7mph. Today scheduled to be even windier. At least it isn't freezing today which is a plus! Can hear things rattling about outside, so best go and investigate!
  11. Tiny, tiny flakes of something blawin' sideyways oot there! Might be snaw, might be graupel, who knows? It's blawin' through too fast on the wind for me to get a decent look at it! Current temp is 2.7c but the wind chill ...
  12. Morning all! Pink sunrise this morning heralding ..... what? Depends which forecast I look at! Snow would be welcome even just to help put out the wildfire/muirburn that is still raging up here. A friend near Staffin is on the verge of leaving her house if advised to. Scary stuff! Bitter cold wind so just a short walk today I think just to get the legs and hips moving. Every little helps!
  13. Evening all! Below zero temps now a thing of the past! Reached 6c today according to weather station, but the very strong winds made it feel like minus 6! Snow forecast for here tomorrow or Sunday, along with yet more strong winds, so blizzard conditions may ensue, that's if we do actually get any snow! And another muirburn out of control on Skye today! Road closed near Luib for a while but now opened. Another muirburn in progress near Staffin, this after emergency services specifically asked that fires should not be lit as the ground was bone dry and therefore rather dangerous. Did they listen? Nah! Nae problem, it'll be controlled! Yeah, right! Well dodgy! What is it going to take to get these eeejits to just stop this? The very strong winds just whipped the flames along and before you know a wee fire is soon a raging demon! Baaaad, very bad!
  14. Good morning fellow frozen Kilties! A wee bit nippy in Braemar then! Lowest overnight here was -6.8c, now up to -6c. Positively tropical! Will take a while to defrost the car for a trip to get supplies in. Coal man arriving today ( I hope! ) which is just as well as I'm running low on that too! Glad to hear you are out of hospital @Blitzen. Just make sure everyone else in the household is running at your beck and call! For all that we've had minus temperatures for a few days, yesterday there was a muirburn near Broadford which got out of control. Everything a bit on the dry side, two fire engines that I know of headed down that way with blues and twos going. Well dodgy! I also saw a muirburn on Raasay the other night about 9pm and that looked stunning. Take care everyone, conditions are not great for walking or driving. I drive with clenched jaw and gritted teeth and at a low speed during weather like this. Relax and have a dram when I get home knowing that I'm well stocked up and the weather can do as it likes!
  15. Well, it's taking me longer each day to read through all the posts! Thanks for all the snaw photies and vids! Some stunning shots there! More white stuff for some lucky Peeplings today! Here we have, once again, gin clear skies in Skye! Temp dipped down to -4c during the night and has now crawled up to -3.1c. Going to stay like this for a few more days so I think I'll have a wee potter and tidy round the garden once I have my four layers of thermals on! Enjoy the snowfall folks, and more photies please!
  16. Good evening Snaw Blinded Kilties! So good to see all the reports and photies coming in! Over here in the far, far west we've had gin clear skies, fresh, fresh highland air and a wee touch o' frost! BRAW! I don't mind that we're not getting any snaw here, I'm happy with what we have. At least I can drive from A to B without having to dig masel oot! Happy days, eh? No need for me to look out my brand new snaw shovel, I may just have to scrape the ice off the windscreen! Enjoy it all Kilties and keep the piccies coming!
  17. Morning all! My isn't this a busy wee page these days! Lovely piccies too! here we have 3c, dry, cloudy but with patches of blue sky there too, so really, quite a good day all told! Enjoy your snaw whoever gets it, it certainly won't be me!
  18. Morning all! Well, it rained all night and it has finally just stopped! I can see that even out on the mainland the snow on the mountains looks like it's had a good washing out as there's now bits of grey where yesterday it was white! Sky now clearing away to the north east, so I might manage out for a wee walk later on. I know we won't get any snow as far over this way but at least the weekend looks dry, clear and cold which is a massive improvement on yesterday! Current temp 4.8c, and the lowest overnight was 1.6c.
  19. Currently jaffa cakesin' doon wi' rain, a tad on the blowy side too. Temp 2.4c. Horrible night.
  20. Afternoon Kilties! Much the same here today as it was yesterday, so a case of rinse and repeat! Dry, cloudy and breezy. Cannae get much more boring than that! Current temp is 4.7c with a wind chill of 4.4c. Hmmmm. Not entirely convinced that's correct! However, at least it's dry which is a lot better than some parts of Auld Scotia! Rain, rain and more rain in for some! That's pure p1sh! So, who reckons they'll be snowed in over the next 4 - 5 days?
  21. Morning all! Snaw shields intact as expected and it looks like they'll stay that way for the forseeable future. Bitter cold wind out there, current temp around 3c but the wind chill is bringing that down considerably. Have fun in the snaw when it arrives you Lucky Kilties!
  22. Morning all! Currently 1.4c here, light cloud and a helluva nippy breeze! Snaw shovel shoved to the back of the shed as I reckon it wont be needed here any time soon. Keep the snaw piccies coming folks! Bet this thread will be snawed under with photies o' whiteness from everywhere but Skye!
  23. Afternoon peeps! Just been out for a wee bimble aroond, highest temp today was 2.6c, now down to -0.2c. Fresh and clear, could be a bit of a nightmare driving anywhere tomorrow morning though, which unfortunately I have to do. Ah well, we'll see how it is.
  24. Morning all from MQ Towers! Last few days have been really lovely here, frosty, white, clear skies, FAB! I'm not too bothered about not getting any snow if it remains like this, which, according to charts, it may do for at least the next week and maybe a bit further on! Snaw forecast for some very excited Peeplings, so you know what to do ..... out with the cameras Guys! Currently -1.7c here, reached a low of -2.2c overnight. Happy days!
  25. Aye, g'mornin' fae MQ Towers. 3c and pish. Although I have to say that the sky does appear to be clearing a bit to the north east. Hopefully a drier day ahead.
