  1. Had some hail showers this morning, followed briefly by a wee snow flurry. Skies are clearing now and according to my weather station, it's -3.1c with a wind chill of -8c. Better go and get some more coal for the fire. Lorenzo, if those charts stay the way they are, for once Skye will be let off lightly as it looks as if we'll be in the eye of the storm. Either way, that looks like a real stoater oan it's way! Will be watching those charts with great interest!
  2. Morning Wide Awake Kilties! Blawy again during the nicht hail and sleet showers too. I doubt very much that I'll see any of the white stuff here, I'm too close to the sea and too low down! Those of you who get snow today...enjoy!
  3. Power has been on and off here since 3pm. Hope it manages to stay on tonight despite the wind getting up again. Internet connection keeps dropping out too. ACH well, the joys of a winter storm, eh?
  4. Morning all A wee bit breezy last night,eh? We had a power cut during the night but back on again. Gusts of over 97mph in some parts of Skye, but it is beginning to calm down a bit. Western Isles had wind speeds of 113mph at one point. I hope everything is OK with Milkmaid, sounds like she is having a really bad time over there.
  5. Hah! Bear Scotland closes Skye Bridge at the merest puff these days! It's just a case of when rather than if.
  6. Afternoon folks from an extremely calm Isle of Skye! We had some rather beefy hail showers early this morning, but it has calmed down considerably since the. temp currently 0.8c, wind chill -6c, pressure 1004mb, wind speed 10.5mph. I know it'll get a helluva lot worse overnight, but I can only echo what others have said, please everyone, do take care and don't go out if you can avoid it!
  7. Very worrying! I'm in the amber zone, like Cookie. Yes, we have plenty of storms up here, but this one looks like it'll be on a par with the storm of January 11th 2005. That was horrendous. No power for four days then, but I'm as well prepared as I can be, currently charging batteries for lanterns and have oil lamps too. I may need to claim insurance for freezer contents if the power is off for a prolonged period, as I did ten years ago! If that's the worst that happens, heck, I can live with that! Please take care everyone, it's going to be rather nasty out there over the next few days.
  8. MWAHAHAHAAAAA! And guess what guys? It's 4.25am and there is not a breath of wind out there. I am saving it all up for something truly spectacular! On a more serious note, this wee breeze is going to affect just about every area in Auld Scotia, so please Peeps....do take care out there.
  9. Been a bit gusty here today, this is obviously a precursor for the Big One tomorrow night. To everyone who happens to be in any of the zones affected, please take care!
  10. Oh, I intend to Catch! We've already had a wee blast of 36mph here, which is, off course, chicken feed in comparison to what is predicted. I'm going to stand outside with arms extended and let the wind take me away. I'm off to the Far East, and I won't need a magic carpet to get me there! No ferry on this morning, however, it looks as if the winds will abate a little later on today, so at least I'll be able to get out and fill up the coal bucket without risk of being blown over. It's not looking good, and I'll fill up my oil lamps and get plenty of batteries charged up too. Can't really do much more than that. Stay safe everyone who is in the firing line!
  11. Ach, that's just a wee puff, nae problem tae me. I am also a liar. HEEEEEEEEELLLLLLLPPPPP!
  12. Morning all, cloudy and cool here, pressure 1006, temp -2.4, 2.3 or 10c depending on which weather station I believe! Off out with a friend for some serious dog walking later, that should get the heart pumping and the legs aching by the end of it!
  13. . Oh yes,I remember it very well! Never heard a racket like that before or since, but that could be about to change! Hopefully it will not be so extreme this time. Damage to property can be fixed, lost lives are much harder to deal with.
  14. Morning' all! Breezy and cloudy here no rain yet! Keeping an eye on all forecasts and charts for later in the week and hoping it may not be as bad as predicted, but will tie everything down anyway!
  15. Calm, cloudy and cool here. I will watch the forecasts for Friday and Saturday with interest as they seem to be changing daily, downgrade one day, upgraded the next. Either way it would seem that there's gauny be a Hoolie for a lot of folk at the end of the week!
  16. Mornin' all! Well, wasn't yesterday a bit of a mini hoolie! Winds not so bad as expected but very raw when we went for a walk. Lovely morning here now, calm with clear skies, temp just below freezing. Friday the 9th is showing rather extreme windy weather up here with gusts of over 80mph. Not good, quite scary in fact. I would appreciate any views from those more expert on chart reading and the like. What's the chance of it downgrading, or, hopefully not, upgrading?
  17. Mornin' all! Horizontal hailstones here and a bit on the nippy side. May venture out for a stretch of the legs and a blast of fresh air between showers to clear the cobwebs away. Best put some boulders in my pockets to keep me grounded, eh?
  18. Happy New Year folks! Hope there aren't too may hangovers around this morning! Extremely mild and dreich again, cheapo weather station now has a drop in temp and we are now at 27c.....oh, ha bloody ha! Guess that weather station is only fit for the bin, so I'll maybe get a bargain replacement in the sales somewhere. Steak pie is at the ready and all should be well as long as the winds don't get too fierce, the power should hopefully stay on long enough to get the thing cooked. A very quiet Hogmanay up here, I still await my first foot. Cheers Peeps , if yer no gauny stay sober, at least stay safe!
  19. Howdy folks! Now, I know it's milder than of late, but one of my weather stations ( El Cheapo Cheap! ) is currently showing an outdoor temp of 30c. Yes, that is correct, 30c. I had to go and check it several times just to make sure that there wasn't a wee decimal point in there somewhere, but no, it seems to be stuck on 30c. Just replaced the batteries a couple of weeks ago, so maybe it's only fit for the bin now. Anyhoo, mild, windy and downright dreich here today. Hope you all have a very happy new year when it comes!
  20. We have now hit the heady heights of 5c or 8.9c depending on which weather station I look at! That is positively tropical! I see that the Ne'er day storm has downgraded substantially. This morning XC stated gusts of up to 70mph, now it's down to 46mph. That I can live with, it means I'll probably get the steak pie cooked before power goes off!
  21. Morning folks! Currently - 2.1c here, and the chooks refused to come out of their wee hut! Can't blame them really, I'm back in ma scratcher wi' the laptop! Highest temp here since before Christmas has been -0.2c, lowest has been -3.9. All will soon be a thing of the past. New Years Day looks interesting! ( Not )
  22. Afternoon all! Had a very tiny fall of the white stuff about an hour ago, but as ground is wet it disappeared as fast as it came! Cold at -2.7 though and skies clearing again.
  23. Good morning fellow stuffed Kilties! Today I feel that a boiled egg and some Weetabix is all my tummy could handle! Anyhoo, wasn't yesterday just fab? It never got above freezing here, there were lovely frost patterns on the car when I went to put the chooks to bed and it was beginning to get white and crunchy underfoot. Love it! Low temp of -3.9. I'll take this any day over mild horizontal rain and murk! Have a happy Boxing day! I got a hudl tablet from Santa, pity it's not talking to my wi-fi!
  24. Happy Xmas all! it's currently -2c with gin clear skies. FAB! I doubt we'll see anything in the way of white stuff, but those of you who have any....ENJOY!
  25. Mornin' folks! A really noisy morning here...crash, bang, wallop, flash! Thunderstorm woke me just before 6am. The OH informed me that the lightning was intense....I saw nothing, too busy sending snores up! It has calmed down now, light breeze and rain, 2.5c. Hope you all have a very happy and snowy Christmas, although it doesn't look much like I'll be seeing any over this way! :smiliz34:
