  1. Morning all! Wet and windy here again...surprise! been trying to sort out my latest ( cheapo! ) weather station. Bought it in November but the pressure has always been way out, at least 20mb lower than my other two. the problem is the instructions. Yes, they are in English, but were obviously written by someone whose first language is not English. Very frustrating! However, will spend some more time this afternoon pressing buttons and see where it gets me! Looking as if it might be wet and windy again at Hogmanay, would I be right?
  2. You are safer wi' the Kilties BUS! Once again many thanks for your efforts and info and posting all those charts for us!
  3. Storm? What storm? Sorry guys, just bein' a wee bit flippant there! Bad girl! By the sounds of the other posts this one is a real beast and it would appear to be much worse than the Xmas Eve Blaw. Up here it's as calm as can be, makes a change though! Please take care everyone, you've still got the New Year celebrations to get through! ( Temp 3.8 and light rain here, that's nothing compared to what other are getting hammered with the noo! )
  4. Happy Boxing Day all! Glad to see that things have calmed down now and it appears that not too much damage had been done. The storm wasn't nearly as bad here as anticipated, no power cuts, so Xmas dinner was just dandy. Even managed to get out twice yesterday for a walk as we basically were just slothing it on Xmas Eve! Calm here now, hoping to get out again today for a good walk to work off some of yesterday's marathon scoff! My family know me too well........so much chocolate....so little time!!!
  5. Really getting windy here now, horizontal rain. Temp 3.6, baro.....well one WS says 945, another 940.3 and my aneroid baro on the wall says 1050. The pressure has dropped so low the needle is heading back around in an anti clockwise direction! Still got leccy so waiting for the daft Xmas films to start in the afternoon.....if we still have leccy then!
  6. BUS has been doing the night shift! Do you ever sleep laddie, or is it just the fact that a large man in a red suit is about to bring you a pressie...ie: Humungous storm!!! Thank you for keeping us updated..much appreciated. Have a Cool Yule....and a safe one too!
  7. Just a quick visit as I fear the power will go off soon! A blustery night but winds are really picking up now, can feel it battering into the side of the house. Baro down to 941.7, temp 3.4. Stay safe all! THE HOOLIE IS HERE!!!!!!
  8. Evening all! Temp a ridiculous 7.9, baro down to 958. I have another weather station which tells me that the pressure is currently 953.8 and falling. Phew! Bad news south of the border, two folk dead. I hope we don't hear of any more deaths over the next few days. Stay safe wherever you are!
  9. Starting to get a bit breezy up here and amber warning now out for Highlands and Eilean Siar for tomorrow. May not get on here once the storm kicks in and the power goes of, so everyone have a very happy and very safe Christmas!
  10. Afternoon all! So, I took a baro reading this morning...985. Now it's down to 963.9. BOMBS AWAY!!!!! It's so calm just now. We have light rain and barely a breath of wind. So this surely has to be calm before the storm then. Happy Choccy Birthday Mardatha! Girl after my own heart!
  11. Yeah, looks like Skye and the Western Isles will be no more after Hurricane Willy! Rain and sleet here, temp down to 1.9 last night. I note from the snow charts that Skye and Western Isles are nor coloured pink. What did I tell ya? We will be wiped off the face of the earth tomorrow whilst everyone else is busy making snowmen and cooking turkey. I'm off soon to do the last food shop before the end of mankind in the NW highlands. Enjoy yersels in the snaw, nane headin' oor way, but take care oot there!
  12. Afternoon all! Severe hailstorms on and off all day, black skies and light winds. Ach well, take it as it comes eh? Even though it does look very, very scary! What nutters are saying it doesn't look too bad? It looks worse every time I look at a chart! Anyhoo, the birdie joint is roasting, bread is made, spare bedroom tidied for arrival of Big Sis ( if she gets here, off course! ) Going to see The Hobbit part two tonight, then tomorrow hit the cr*ppy Co-op to get last food shop done. Better get in early afore we get blawn awa'! Mind how ye go folks, gauny be nasty!
  13. Morning all! Currently 4c, calm, nae rain! We had just about everything yesterday, wind, sleet, hail, thunder & lightening and some snow on higher ground. The calm at the moment has me worried. I know it's gauny get a wee bit blawy especially on Xmas Eve, and I fully expect the power to go off at some point. Todays plan is to cook the wee roast birdie today then freeze it. I doubt I'll be able to roast any tatties, but got plenty other veg and stuff to fill the plates. See....always thinking of her stomach. Just hope when/if the power goes off it's not for too long. Dinnae want the freezers to defrost! Got them both packed wi' scran!
  14. Just had another mini power cut there...off for 2 minutes then back on again. Got a feeling we'll have a lot of this over the next 3 - 4 days.
  15. Morning Kilties! Well we had what can only be described as a very interesting night up here. Gales, sleet, horizontal rain, hail and then.........power cut. From about 17.45 till the wee small hours. Ach well, at least it was mild! Be thankful for small mercies! But seriously, I am very concerned about the next few days, especially Monday and Tuesday. It looks worse than horrendous. I can't batten down anything else as it's already battened down, and I'm expecting my sister here on Monday late afternoon, if public transport allows, off course! Will follow the charts with interest and trepidation. Please everyone, take care over the festive period!
  16. Blawin' up yet another hoolie here. It would seem that this is chicken feed in comparison to what's expected next week. Quite worrying really, I'm expecting Xmas visitor on Monday 23rd, don't know if the bus will even make it across the bridge!
  17. Morning all! So calm now after the past few days...but not for long, eh? Temp 4.3 with light rain, and snow on the hills. I'm too close to the sea for the snow to have any impact, but that may change in the run up to Christmas!
  18. Morning peeps! We have a hail shower here just now, temps got down to 2.8 last night. We were very fortunate that the wind really didn't pick up the way it was expected to, so no power cuts here. (0mph in South Uist last night...phew! Checking out other local weather sites in Skye, I think the strongest wind was 74mph in Elgol, other places averaging around 60 - 65 mph. So, can I put away my lanterns, batteries tea lights etc now? At least until Christmas Eve?
  19. Just had a fair wee blast there, really beginning to pick up now.
  20. Evening Peeps! Still fairly calm ( by Skye standards! ) up here. The wind is beginning to pick up a bit now with the worst expected in the wee small hours of the morning. Pressure down to 958.8 mb and falling. Gonna be bad in a lot of areas so stay safe Peeps.
  21. Still waiting for the main action to start. We've only had a few wee gusts but pressure has really plummeted now 959 and falling. Not looking too clever is it? Stay safe everyone!
  22. Got that covered Hon! Got bucket loads of birthday chocolate left. I may just share a few squares of a bar with the OH, but under no circumstances is he getting anywhere near my Belgian Chocolates! Anyhoo, it has started to get a wee bit breezy up here and I have to go out to my dance class in about an hour, so should be home in time before the real fun starts! So, to all who live on the Western seaboard or the Western isles please take care folks! If I'm not on here in the morning as I usually am it means one of two things.....nae leccy or I've been blown a bitty further north than I am at present! Take care all!
  23. AAAAAAAAARRRRRGGGHHHH!!!!! Right....ACTION STATIONS! Batteries charged...check! Torches at the ready...check! Oil lamps filled and wicks trimmed....check! Good supply of wood and coal at the ready...check! What more can a girl do????
