  1. Yes indeedy! Be interesting to see how it pans out. I just hope not too much damage is done and that no-one gets hurt!
  2. I'm looking forward to it and will take whatever it throws at me. Can't really do much else, can we? No point hoping or praying for massive snowfalls, or massive gales, or crystal clear skies and frosty nights. Sure, I would love all of these, but it's more likely to be wet and mild as it is to be cold and snowy. Pity that, but there it is. I love winter anyway no matter what the weather.
  3. Defo cooler this morning and , oh look.......it's started raining again! I remember that storm in 1968. Lots of trees down, chimneys off roofs, cars blown off roads. Quite a nippy wee sweetie that one.
  4. Morning Peeplings. Horrible day up here, dreich, dreich, dreich!
  5. So mild yesterday that I switched the heating off and removed the woolly blanket from the bed! I know I have my own in-built heating system( flush! flush! flush!) but it doesn't operate 24 hours. We just made do with a fire in the sitting room last night. So, having been a bit rash in switching it off, this will surely herald the start of a wintry spell! I can hope....
  6. Morning peeps! Mild with light cloud here today. Don't see temps plummeting for a whiley. Ach well, it's better than horizontal rain I suppose!
  7. It is currently 7.8c outside, so yes, the heating is on! It's not on all day, just 90 minutes in the morning and 3 hours in the evening and a wee fire on in the sitting room where there's no radiator. Oh, temp down as I type, now 7.7 and falling with clear skies.
  8. I guess if we have plenty of warning we could take any necessary precautions, stockpiling dried and tinned foods, make sure there's plenty of coal in, chop more wood etc. I personally would not like a long, snowy, b*llock freezing winter. A few days, even a week is fine. Months on end....no ta! The thought of the power grid shutting down......EEEEEEEKKK! Having experienced four days without power following the storm of January 2005, I can't recommend it.I have found that even with central heating and double glazing I can still have ice on the inside of my windows. Hasn't happened often, right enough, and I'm thankful for that. The worst thing for me, as in 2010 was the empty supermarket shelves. When we finally got to town there wasn't much to be had in the way of fresh fruit and veg or dairy produce. I have two freezers and I try and keep them as well stocked as possible. I suppose if it did happen we would just deal with it as best we could. Some would be happy, some would not. Take it as it comes and hope for the best...or some may hope for the worst!
  9. Morning all! Another crystal clear morning up here, but I fear it may be the last for a wee while. Pity, the night sky was just stunning.
  10. Got up to a balmy 13.6 yesterday and down to 1.6 overnight. Crystal clear daybreak once again. More please!
  11. Got down to 1.6c last night, temp now creeping up to a tropical 2 4. Beautiful diamond daybreak!
  12. It's here! At last the horrible muggy weather has been kicked into touch! &c here, hailstones and a stiff breeze. Central heating back on this morning, big fire on last night. Now that's more like it!
  13. Oh, roll on Wednesday! I loves the cold weather I does, anything is better than the cloying muggy stuff we currently have to endure. Better get chopping more wood this week, think I'm gonna need it! YESSSS!
  14. Hating this muggy warmth. the only good thing about it is I switched the heating off. Can't sleep at night as I'm too warm despite the lightweight summer duvet and windows wide open. I'm longing for a bit of cool, some frosty mornings and lighting the fire again. Some folks are never happy, eh?
  15. Well, I'd save a fortune on heating oil and coal that's for sure! I would just deal with it. Remove thermal underwear, wear just one pair of socks and slap on some sun cream whilst supping a G&T. What else is a girl to do?
  16. OI! Who nicked the sun! We've had four fab sunny days up here, warm too. Now we're back to normal, cloudy and dull, rain on the way. I guess the telescope can stay under wraps for the time being then........
  17. Morning Peeps! Another stonking day forecast, lovely starry skies here last night, been a while since I've seen that.
  18. A big fire on ATM, central heating will come on for a few hours later on. A very good indication of how cold the house is.....what is the current position of the cats? Curled up on a sheepskin on the rocking chair....next to the fire. Bless. Temp in sitting room is 15.5, but the fire just got lit about 30 mins ago. Give it another half hour and a few more logs and I'll be fine!
  19. Horrible morning up here, dreich and rainy. Central heating on, cats curled up on bed.
  20. It's 13c in my bedroom, heating is now on and will stay on unless we get an Indian Summer. I live in hope. If I don't have the heating on now the house gets really damp and chilled ( old house, no insulation ), so I don't grudge the heating oil one bit.
  21. Well, so much for the first Hoolie of the season! Winds were nowhere near as bad as predicted but we did have plenty of rain. Likewise today. It's nice to get the fire lit in the evenings though and I'm enjoying the freedom of the roads once again as most ( but not all! ) of the tourists have disappeared. Love autumn!
  22. Been damp and dreich up here for the past few days and there's a definite autumnal feel now. Love it!
  23. Central heating on as MIL is visiting and she really does feel the difference in temps up here. It's getting switched off the minute she leaves tomorrow! I have had the fire lit in the sitting room for the past week though.
  24. Afternoon Peeps! Ain't been on for ages, life just soooo busy! Been lovely up here, but a bit too hot for me, thankfully cooled down overnight, low cloud this morning, cleared to Big Blue Skies! Since the weather is dry I'd best get on with some weeding!
  25. Can't confirm for Shetland, but can confirm for Skye! 2 degrees and falling with light snow. Who said it was May? We had warmer weather in December! I'm away tae shovel some coal onto the fire.....
