Thursday looking very interesting, with this system basically grinding to a halt, many parts of midlands especially south and west could see a right dumping!! Expect Amber warnings to be issued inside next 24hrs

    Hope so Matt.

Well, I certainly didn't see any forecast for today which started with snow! They ALL started with rain turning to snow, all the ones I saw...

So you're writing off what's forecast to happen this afternoon, evening and overnight... it may indeed not happen as snow, but since we're still five or more hours beforehand...!

Happy to be proved wrong but I'd bet every penny I have that not a flake will fall here today or overnight. All these events seem quite hyped up and then end up being a wet, soggy fart.

Feel I have an apology to make.

If people are wondering why this thread vanished for almost an hour, basically I went ahead a locked the thread first. Then, went and hid it.

Was feeling fed up (partly due to the way this thread was going and for other reasons). Regardless, I shouldn’t have taken out my frustrations on here by vaporising this thread and leaving people feeling confused and worried as to what happened.

It wasn’t fair and I didn’t let any members of my team know what I did. Nor anyone on here. I’m sorry for behaving that way and wouldn’t blame anyone for being annoyed. Not really a great example for a mod/host to set.

While I appreciate some of the damage I likely caused (even though some will probably look back on the mysteriousness of the missing thread and laugh), I will make sure it doesn’t happen again. After all, this thread is meant to be a laid back and fun place for you guys to chat about the models, and would hate to ruin that mood.

Could have chosen not to have said anything at all, but feel you guys deserved to know the truth!

To be honest, I thought maybe a load of Vegans had done it. Or maybe the Freemasons.

You must be fairly new to all this as we all start out like that but after soooo many let downs, failed easterlys and long garden paths the excitement soon disappears. Yeah nice to see good charts as appossed to mild ones but until they make it inside 48hours then I’d not read to much into them. Even then they can go Pete tong. If they can go wrong in the uk then they 9/10 will

The worrying is that I still (foolishly) allow myself to be reeled in. Like a fish on a hook. Even after 6 or 7 years of being on here.

True, but before last winter, we had 4 mild, almost snowless winters between 2013/14 and 2016/17.

Before that we had 4/5 colder, snowier winters that included January 2013, December 2010 and Jan 2010.

Appreciate that; however, the point I was trying to make that there is still time for some very cold weather as we approach February. Things can evolve quickly and at short notice.

  6. To be honest, don't recall December (other than 2010 in more recent years) and January generally don't deliver much in the way of potent, severe cold. Can understand, though, the disappointment and fatigue on here; however, there is still February and March (of which, in March last year, the far south coast experienced two cold spells with snow and ice days on two occasions; the latter of which was mid-march).

    Still all to play for.

This couldn't have been put any better.. Totally agree.. Very very frustrating....

Yep. It's a yawn fest. To be honest, at that stage now of apathy whereby couldn't care less whether it snows or not.

    Roll on spring.

  8. Lots of dodging of toys being thrown in the MOD thread today yet we're not even in February yet; and down in the far south (Poole) last March we had two snow events in March (each had ice days too). Winter is far from over. Plenty of time still for us all to see some snow.

Simple fact is....some people are bloody impatient and behave like spoilt brats when things don't turn out how the way they want it to. The weather is going to do whatever it bloody well wishes and will always be one step ahead of humanity!..

  9. No point in getting too downbeat (and I'm not surpised by the ECM backing away from severe cold) as the weather will do what it's going to do! I'm sure there will be cold spells (with snow and ice for some) with milder interludes between now and spring. As far as a severe cold spell is concerned. Well, as we know, they are always difficult to get to these shores, anyway.

Can we have the festive emoticons back !  I might put out the tinsel again if we can see tonights trends continue .

Now who in here is going to own up to either having probs sleeping tonight with both excitement or nerves or waking up earlier than usual  to see the morning outputs !

As Sir Alex Ferguson would say....squeeky bum time!

I very much agree with people in here and the model thread telling people not to be too negative when a run a shows a less favorable outcome....perfectly sensible advice....however, the same people advising caution with the bad runs, happily post ecstatic reactions to the favorable ones.    So, before you tell someone that its only one run and advise them to stop being negative, think to yourself, do I ever get exited about good runs, if the answer is yes, shut up and dont be a hypocrite, if its ok for you to post, BOOM or EPIC about one run, its ok for other members to be negative about another.

To be honest, feel it is better to focus more on the experienced, sensible, and level headed posters such as GP, Chio, Nick, and BA. There are more who are thorough in their analysis and concentrate more on trends than every individual run. It's also best, in situations such as these, not to look too far ahead beyond 4 to 5 days; as even then there can be uncertainty.
