Twitter search brings up a .gif video recorded in Aberystwyth today showing a trailer rolling over, SLW indicative from this as from initial reports it seems quite a wide swathe of the town was affected.

Well it doesn't look like straight line winds, to me, things are moving in different directions. Doesn't look like a tornado either though unless it was very wide.

Slit wrists time in the Model thread. GFS 0Z moves towards the Euros. It was obvious that was going to happen.

Possibly a nice high setting up over the UK next week, cant complain. Dry and fair for my morning runs and dog walks, as long as the Atlantic train is absent I'm happy.

Nothing wrong with a high over us at this time of year, are we on the southern side of it?

If so do not expect the weather to be to warm, it's quite cold to the east of us.

Sad Sad day today for those of us who have lived in Croydon and ever used the tram. having lived in and used the tram extensively over a 5 year period, going to and from Beckenham and elmers end underneath the sandliands turning. Poor souls you cannot imagine the crash, but it seems like they have already established the cause being driver error as the rail safety board has said he was going to fast round the bend. As someone said earlier on FB hold your loved ones tighter tonight as 5 (could be more) souls wont return today :-(

I use to use those trams too.

Hi Ben. I'm no expert on Wunderground and only occasionally look at their 'current conditions' output for my location as they contain more detail than the Met Office 'latest observations' (e.g. they give DP and windchill readings and Met O don't). But for readings common to both, Wunderground & the Met O do agree. I don't use them for any forecasts.
I would suggest treating them as one source amongst many and make comparisons and form a view.

By the way, here's a handy website that allows you to enter temp and relative humidity and it calculates the DP for you:
    http://www.dpcalc.org/

Back to today and it's a miserable start here. Wet and a chilly 6C. But looks even worse down in Sussex and Kent!

Yep got totally soaked in that mess.

Very ironic that here in mid Norfolk for last 5 days had some beefy long heavy showers either coming from the north or east. Now when we had the cold spell 4 years back it was a bloody snow shield as showers missed me 80% of the time. So technically if this was mid January I'd have at least 9" snow by now.

if we do get that cold spell this winter I will paste this message lol.

also does anybody really have same thoughts as me I sometimes read the model threads, this morning they were all crazy as all models were showing really cold weather continuing now this evening it's gone full Circle that from mid month normal autumnal weather is expected huh????? I find some of the posters very irritating my opinion

Me too, they know in the mid term the models swing about, but still they look there and over react to whatever is shown. There really is no point. However it's a good read.

You are spot on alexis. At 08.00 this morning the winds were NNW and here in Suffolk it was clear and sunny. But as the day has progressed there's a small Low moving down the North Sea which is gradually swinging the winds more N, and by this evening starting to turn NNE. It will also turn very windy for coastal locations this evening. Arpege wind gusts charts:

    08.00 Arpege Gusts Sun 06 Nov 08.00.png 20.00 Arpege Gusts Sun 06 Nov 20.00.png

The feature bringing this more organised band of showers/rain through is an occluded front associated with the Low pressure I mentioned.

And as I finish writing the band of rain is just going through - unfortunately not a wet flake in sight! :nonono:

It's also a few degrees colder here than what seems to have been forecast, just like yesterday. We had a high of 6.8 but that has gone down with the approaching cloud along with the DP although that is up at 2.6. I normally see temps go up with cloud in a winter type scenario.

Hi all! Haven't been on here since last Winter! Let's hope this one has more to offer us 'coldies' surely it can't be any worse than the last?

As for today, please excuse my ignorance because my meteorological knowledge is somewhat limited :D, but according to Wunderground.com, although the current temperature is 7.2C, the dew point is 0C.  Am I right in thinking that (assuming the DP is still 0 when the band arrives) I stand a chance of seeing at least a 'wintry mix' or am I just clutching at straws? It's the latter isn't it?...

Well they are getting a wintery mix in the midlands, but we are further south. It seems to be linked to elevation as always. So I guess we'll have to wait and see. I expect just rain here, but I'm right near the coast really.
