Was that as Saturday, if so, I had a proper blizzard, 6inches in four hours.

No as that was the day I had to walk up the school to pick up the kids, because all the buses where stuck on Brighton road. It looked like oxford st going towards south croydon. Then once I was on the way back, still in the same place, so for at least an hour although probably much longer, the traffic didn't move at all.

Ok must be thinking of another day of snowfall in 2010, it was the streamer that happened after the 2009 one.

not been on here for a few years but looking at various weather websites the out look for snow 1st -2nd Jan looks good for snow down in the SE .not sure if it will last long as ground temps don't look low enough ,am I wrong ? looking good also for 6th Jan onwards :)

I don't know just got in after karaoke and playing pool, plus talking to the land lady afterwards for about 2 and half hours, and we have yet another frost on the coast. I don't think ground temps will be a problem, may be upper temps too low. Look out for freezing rain if it stays cold down south before the rain comes.

  3. Looks the same here, even the hills, north face are still white, looks so pretty. temp has dropped like a stone now the sun has left the whole area in shade, looks like more frost forming on cars already.

It's a real shame we warm up in front of the new years day rain, if it stayed cold and frosty right up until then, and the uppers cooled quick enough we could have snow even down here.

As usual JohnHolmes is a voice of reason here. I lived like John through the winter of 62-63 (as a young man) and enjoyed every minute of it but now with the years passing I shudder to think of the extremes that winter produced. I have not got the figures but it must have killed off a lot of the older generation to say nothing about the persistent snow and ice and what that did to the road conditions and public transport.

I have to agree, I'm not old enough to know about 62-63, but I remember my 87 snow day, only ones I had, and it was only cause the water pipes at the school got frozen. It wasn't the only time there was snow, used to throw snowballs in the playground. Can't think how many day's off school or work will happen if the 6z verifies, it will be ridiculous. All down to an inability to cope with conditions.

This frosty cold may already be effecting the vulnerable negatively.
