  1. The possibility of significant rainfall totals for some areas is being proposed by one or two models for this week so here are the currently predicted totals for the next five days according to: GFS ARPEGE UKMO. We do like to trash the GFS and the ARPEGE from time to time but I like to think the MetOffice can be relied upon not to exaggerate. In the above charts even the UKMO indicates that up to 12cm of rain could fall in north Wales this week. Not a huge total in Winter but fairly significant at this time of year. Other models are available, of course, and some are much less pessimistic so perhaps it'll never happen......
  2. ECM +168hr: At least it's trying - not quite managed to produce a really settled high pressure yet but getting there! Is this a case of 'more runs needed'?
  3. After days of gloom and doom, some hope for June at last: UKMO +144. GEM +156 GFS +156 Just waiting for the ECM to come out and hopefully show the same evolution but this is a definite move away from the entrenched low pressure domination we have been seeing recently. However, GFS (P) not on the same page - yet:
  4. A very blustery day yesterday with plenty of cloud - very April like in fact. I don't see any sign of a shift to real summery conditions anytime soon - the unsettled spell looks like continuing until after next weekend with the sun only appearing occasionally between periods of wind and rain for the rest of the week. Early this morning we had a quiet and sunny start but it's clouding over quickly now and the breeze is getting up again. At least it should stay dry today before we get a very wet day tomorrow. I am hoping that June will not prove to be a complete washout this year but we can always look forward to July.....
  5. No heatwave for this location today - 100% low overcast, poor visibility, and the likelihood of drizzle in the next hour. Hopefully the clouds might break a bit later but for those waking up to blue skies and warmth, count your blessings and spare a thought for the far west.....
  6. How the Jetstream is expected to shape up over the next seven days according to the: GFS. GEM Both show a very simIlar pattern. Sticking doggedly to the south of the U.K., trying to deny that it's June already, the Jetstream buckles towards the end of the week to form the deep trough which will bring unsettled weather to most of us.
  7. The following charts from the ops this morning do not bode well for next weekend - or indeed for the start of summer..... ECM. GFS GFS(P) GEM Cyclonic, windy and cloudy with cool air above us - could be looking at March rather than June. Not saying that Summer is over, just that it is having a very hesitant start..... This could all change at the drop of a hat and some of us might be complaining about temperatures being too high and rainfall non-existent by the end of the month. But then I also believe that Spurs will win the CL tomorrow....
  8. Couldn't agree more. We have 100% overcast with light rain this morning and it's quite cool (by that I mean 'chilly', not 'trendy'....). It's annoying to hear weather forecasters banging on about high temperatures expected this weekend because it's only likely to be felt in London and the south-east - most of the rest of the country are unlikely to benefit and many will see cloudy conditions with very little sunshine. Grrr!
  9. We had some very good weather here for a while in mid-May - warm and sunny with light winds - perfect for Spring in fact. Things have gone downhill in the last few days with low cloud / mist, rain or drizzle at times, and windy too. Temperatures have taken a bashing and I'm back to wearing warm clothes again! I hope this is temporary and the summer finds its way back soon because we get enough of the current conditions in Autumn and Winter, thank you.
  10. Some unsettled charts from the 8-10 day period: GFS 0z +240 GFS (P) 0z +240 ECM 12z +192 GEM 0z +240 I still have a lot to learn but these don't look like the sort of early summer conditions many of us would like to see in June. Personally, I hope these predictions do not verify. What I would prefer is a proper Flaming June, which as we all know used to occur regularly in days of old, before any of us were born....
  11. GEM is doing its best to keep high pressure in the vicinity of the U.K. right through to the end of its run, rebuilding the ridge from the west after the 20th May and keeping temperatures on or a little above average for the time of year..... I've always had a soft spot for this model - now I know why!
  12. Storm Hannah - five different models showing possible maximum wind gusts in the early hours of Saturday morning.... . . Potentially damaging gusts if these charts are right - time to put away the garden chairs then. Oh, and don't park under a tree tonight....
  13. After a wonderful spell of summery weather over Easter, conditions finally changed yesterday (although we did get some rain Tuesday night here as well). The rain set in for most of the afternoon and the temperatures have been knocked back accordingly. This morning we had a grey dawn and steady rain but it's eased up now. Showers or perhaps more persistent rain due later and it seems set to be cooler and wetter for a few days now. However, the ground has been grateful for a soaking - and you don't hear that said very often in these parts!
  14. You can't knock this weather specially after what went before. A lovely couple of days of warm Spring sunshine, light winds and no rain. With the weekend set in the same mould we can hope for a continuation into May..... Not sure we'll get it, though.
  15. Well, it's 6:00pm and the veil of cloud still hasn't cleared this part of the world yet - no sun for us today after all. It's very hazy, so maybe there is a lot of moisture in air which needs burning off? I just hope this isn't going to hang around the west coast while the rest of the country gets a lovely sunny day tomorrow....
  16. A very dull, wet start to the day here but markedly quieter than yesterday - the wind has dropped and is now barely noticeable - almost a dead calm in fact. In the last hour I think the sky has brightened a little and I am hoping we might see some sunshine later this afternoon. After that, the only way is up for at least a few days until Sunday when rain looks likely to arrive from the west. Still time for this to change so perhaps there will be an improvement in the medium term forecast.....fingers crossed!
  17. Not too bad a day yesterday after all - mostly cloudy with only a little watery sunshine at times but it remained dry all day. The easterly wind was the worst factor being strong and gusty at times and keeping the 'feels like' temperature very low. It's a very grey start this morning with a strong SSE wind but still dry for the time being. Rain is expected here later and overnight but I'm looking forward to the warm-up we're promised for the end of the week..... even Fishguard got a mention on BBC 'Weather for the Week Ahead' last night!
  18. Quite a change here this morning with 100% cloud cover but still a nagging, chilly breeze keeping temperatures down. At least we are frost free and remaining dry - for now.
  19. We're experiencing similar conditions here, Knocker, with 100% overcast now, although there was a pinkish tint to the eastern horizon at dawn as the sun managed to peep under the cloud edge. I doubt that we will see the sun again until Tuesday now but after that the signs are promising for a settled Easter weekend - fingers crossed!
  20. A lovely sunny morning here is being followed by a hazy afternoon with high cloud invading from the south west. Looks very nice outside but when you actually step outside it's still quite cold. A gusty, very chilly wind from the south east is taking the edge off the day and makes it feel only just above freezing here! At least we were frost free overnight (only just!) and there's no risk of frost now for at least the next few days (hopefully........ tender new growth now need some luck to get through until May.....).
  21. What a lovely week of weather we have just enjoyed.....every day this week has been dry. It's been mostly sunny too with only bits of cloud now and then, lots of blue sky even if a little hazy perhaps, and with only light winds. Yes, we've had temperatures a tad below average with three frosts in all but nothing out of the ordinary for the time of year. When the sun has been shining and out of the wind it's been pleasantly warm at times. Weather for getting a lot done outside in fact. Yes, on balance, an easterly wind at this time of year combined with high pressure makes Pembrokeshire the best place to be! Looks like it might last for today although more cloudy for Sunday and early next week, but no sign of any nasty Atlantic storms or torrential rain so things could be a lot worse! Very happy with the weather at the moment.
  22. Got to pinch myself before I say this - it didn't rain today! Plus - the sun came out for a look at us. Not too bad a day really, and the outlook for tomorrow is sunny all day! Hmm. We shall see..... I really want to cut the grass now but it's got to be dry enough first.
  23. It's been a cloudy, dreary, damp week here this week with 100% overcast and rain or drizzle most days. Had to travel to Cardiff on Tuesday where it was bright and even sunny, but driving back the clouds increased and by the time I was nearly home it was pretty foggy. Fog hung around most of Wednesday but only low clouds yesterday and today. Mustn't complain though because I would take even this weather over the damaging storms we had previously! It must be our turn to see some sunshine soon and the signs are promising for next week - after another band of rain moves through tonight that is!
  24. Showers they said... What showers? I recognise continuous rain when I see it, and it's persistently raining here - has been since before 6:00am. 100% overcast and wet. Must admit, this is not what I was expecting. I will have to learn how to read those charts better. Still, at least the wind has dropped. Maybe the rain will ease up later. Or tomorrow. Or maybe at the end of the week. Who knows?
  25. You can keep this up for as long as you like, Frosty, as far as I am concerned!
