  1. I don’t often have a proper moan but where are the teleconnection posters who were adamant 2010 was upon us? I’d have more respect if they said “well it didn’t pan out” rather than disappear and reappear when charts show dream Synoptics again and say “it’s all going as planned” Soon we’ll be hearing “January was never the main period of focus anyway it’s always been February” Just as we saw last half of December.
  2. Christ, I’ve been completely out of the loop. Busy with work. It’s going to be hard work catching up on this thread but I intend to do so during some down time tomorrow. Glad to see it buzzing in here. Hopefully some interesting weather will persist long enough for me to enjoy some when I get back. Plenty of snow where I’m working atm, although it just isn’t the same as home snow.
  3. Janingham 15th is now 10 days away from today. Let’s hope it counts down, so far it has been, to @Scott Ingham’s credit.
  4. So today it looks like we ARE in fact allowed to point out potential negative outcomes (if you’re after cold).
  5. If it comes off it better still be ongoing when I return from work abroad 21st January. Otherwise I’m leaving UK for good
  6. I think we need many more days of cross model agreement before such claims (but I hope so)
  7. Christ what a headache of a read that was in the MAD thread. The quality of that thread is but a shadow of its former self.
  8. I agree this weather is the worst. I don’t remember when I last saw the sun here. We have a puppy and taking him out constantly to toilet train him is a chore putting on the waterproofs, drying the waterproofs multiple times a day. I’m working abroad from the 5th so you can all rest easy knowing the Uk weather will turn dry, cold, and then probably epic snows just in time for my departure
  9. Great to see the Scottish ski areas getting a good start to the season. Looks like a lovely evening in Braemar too. FullSizeRender.MOV
  10. MAD thread living up to its nickname tonight. Times like this I wish for the old MOD thread where it was almost zero tolerance. Back then you’d be afraid to post in there if you weren’t clued up on model interpretation. Certainly kept the riff raff out.
  11. Where’s Barty”hater” now the outputs are more positive cold wise.
  12. Would you rather stick with the wind and rain we have now then? I’ll take a frost over this anyday
  13. Just had a very wet sleet shower here too. Surprised me, Went colder fast. Met office has snow on the mountains over the weekend.
  14. I posted this in reply to another post about a tv programme in the Mod thread whilst it was quiet last night. Thought I’d post it here too seeing as it pertains to Cymru. “Since you’ve advertised a programme, I’d thought I’d advertise my own programme. I’m a filmmaker/cameraman and on 8th January a new series starts on BBC that I’ve spent a year filming. Following mountain rescue on the highest mountains in Wales (the highest peaks outside of Scotland). Some snow rescues on there too. Huge respect to the rescue teams who keep a close eye on the models and have to go up no matter the weather. It’s a different world up on the tops. BBC 2, BBC 1 Wales and Iplayer.” It was great to work on something right on my doorstep for a change and a great year spent in all sorts of crazy spots around Eryri. 16. Storm Gerrit smashes into Criccieth North Wales. Cars moved 3-6ft and windows smashed. Locals said it felt like a Tornado #stormgerrit - Buy, Sell or Upload Video Content with Newsflare WWW.NEWSFLARE.COM What seems to be a Tornado as part of Storm Gerrit has caused major damage to property and cars in Criccieth North Wales. 70 - 80 mph winds with possibly 100mph plus... Damage at the end of the video suggests Tornado
  17. Some bitty reports of a Tornado in Wales also. Trying to find more info
  18. I agree that this year seems to be quite tornadic. The UK does get more tornadoes per land area than anywhere else in the world though. I wonder if we’ve just had a year where they’ve struck more urban areas than usual? Or is it an actual increase in activity. The ones that we have had this year do seem stronger than usual too
  19. Storm Gerrit: 'Tornado' damages 100 homes in Stalybridge WWW.BBC.CO.UK Roofs are torn off houses, trees are blown down and walls collapse in Tameside during Storm Gerrit. This storm definitely felt powerful when it passed over me. The hail, wind and loud booming nature of the thunder made me think it was more than a standard a storm.
  20. Well that was a nice treat. I didn’t look at the forecast/keep up with convective outlook last few days. Was this on the cards? FullSizeRender.MOV FullSizeRender.mov FullSizeRender.mov
  21. This would explain the torrential hail and booming thunder we are having, look at the definition of that line
  22. The met office has called an official white Christmas. Parts of the UK did get the Christmas snow. Yes it did change from the initial modelling that got everybody excited and shifted north, but that’s how it goes. Glencoe yesterday Glenshee at the moment FullSizeRender.MOV FullSizeRender.MOV Pretty wild to think this is right now whilst the rest of us experienced one of the mildest Christmas periods. Despite current ground conditions for the majority of the UK, things are far from normal. The Stratospheric polar vortex is currently over the UK. Which explains the high number of sightings of the very rare Nacreous Clouds (Stratospheric polar clouds), all over the UK almost daily the last week. These clouds usually appear inside the polar vortex ring as they need temps bellow -80c. So incredibly cold air in the stratosphere above our heads right now.
