  1. Saw this on Facebook, completely different world up in parts Scotland at the moment Glencoe Glenshee FullSizeRender.MOV
  2. Very windy here half way up Elidir Fawr. Times like this I’m thankful for 4 foot thick stone walls.
  3. Very windy here, windiest of the winter so far.
  4. Did anyone win with the bookies? It’s an official white Christmas White Christmas in Scotland despite warm temperatures WWW.BBC.CO.UK Met Office confirms Highlands snow but the UK had one of the warmest Christmas days on record.
  5. I just knew that any real interest would coincide EXACTLY with when I fly out of the UK
  6. The unusually high number of reports from all over the uk, multiple times over the last 2 weeks, of sighting of rare nacreous or “polar stratospheric clouds” gives an indication that all is not normal with the polar vortex this year. Rainbow clouds spotted for first time since 2016 - BBC News WWW.BBC.CO.UK The clouds, also referred to as "mother-of-pearl", are spotted throughout the East of England.
  7. Remember ECM was dragged by its hair towards GFS the last cold spell, very late on too. It went on for days and days.
  8. I know nothing about them really. Just that I want to be able to have real time wind speed, wind direction, temp, humidity, rain gauge and dew point if it’s possible? With the information displayed in the house, via a laptop? And has the ability to save peak values. So if there’s an Atlantic storm overnight for example, I can check peak wind gusts in the morning? Doesn’t have to be the best of the best but needs to be able to survive the elements and perform reliably with minimal fuss. Mid tier? Thanks
  9. Anyone with any recommendations for a home weather station?
  10. Seems to be a 40% chance of thunderstorms and a tornado over my parts today. I’ll update if anything interesting happens
  11. Did it get pushed back? We are talking about the Canadian warming that was progged to happen early December, not the SSW that is progged to happen in January.
  12. I feel sorry for any new comers trying to learn. Arguing, insults, over one chart two and half weeks away. Things are getting out of hand, Mods?
  13. You’ve brought back some memories there with “faux cold”
  14. All the rain we’ve had up north Wales has been falling as snow on the mountain tops. Hopefully it will stay like that through to the next potential cold spell. Would make for some great mountain hikes over the Christmas period. Here’s Yr Wyddfa/Snowdon from the front garden today

  16. Unfortunately short memory spans are plenty here, and good posts often get lost in the cold chase frenzy. The model output discussion highlight feature is a great tool, but unless the masses get nirvana charts 24/7, well balanced, informative and researched posts like yours will not sink in. (That’s a bit of a generalisation I suppose but this thread can get awfully testing at times when people just don’t take the information in and start moaning and overreacting. Still the best forum ever though)
  17. I distinctly remember Kasim being jumped on for saying the cold air will be swept away easily.
  18. Fantasy Island, meaning the chart is beyond the reliable time frame.
  19. The Canadian warming beforehand should weaken the vortex no? Aiding the possibility of a split should an SSW occur after?
  20. I was very suprised to have rain last night. I usually do very well given my location within the highest mountains of Wales and my elevation. Rain all night. But I’m even more suprised that it’s frozen outside. I must have been just a little too close the the milder air and it seems the cold air has sunk south again. It’s like an ice rink out there and the sky is heavy with snow clouds. Snow line is down to about 1400ft. Perhaps tonight’s low will give me another chance.
  21. I know it varies but Is there an average/typical lag time between an SSW and its effects being felt? Asking because I’m working in India for 2 weeks on February and it would be my luck that I miss all the action
