  1. Phantom snowfall everywhere, always a problem with these fronts.
  2. Surprised to see a few flakes blowing about right now.
  3. -1C, cloudy, no sun, instant melt when snowflakes hit the ground. Don't know what's going on during the day with this cold spell.
  4. Goes to show how snow starved we have been recently even compared to the recent 1970-2000 average. I'm not sure what the exact criteria for lying snow are, surely a temporary dusting that disappears a couple of hours later doesn't count? Discounting those I have had 8 days so far, which is about average for my area. So this so called amazing winter is actually bang average, but because of the rubbish we have had to put up with, apart from a couple of exemptions, we think this has actually been a great year. This is what we should be getting every year.
  5. That might be that for me, next one will be too far south imo. Good 3-4cm, grass completely covered. An accumulating snow event in each month of winter, don't remember the last time that happened.
  6. Yep it's not quite 54 hours of snow, but given the let downs of the last couple of days this is a great surprise. Direct hit again here and some surprisingly big flakes, up to 2cm now.
  7. Heavy snow now 1cm. I'm calling it, it's an official snow event
  8. Finally getting some decent close/direct hits here. Solid dusting now.
  9. First direct hit here left a small dusting. Really doesn't feel that cold out there though and not a chance of settling on pavements. I don't get it, it is -10C a couple thousand feet above us and dew points are well below 0C.
  10. Yorkshire and Lincolnshire suffering just as much as us, most cant get more than a dusting because the sun undoes all the work from the showers. Amber warning looking silly now.
  11. Be careful out there in the 2cm, it's a life threatening situation according to the met office.
  12. I always felt off about this since seeing the winds would be NE or ENE. Much of the North Midlands is in a gap between the Humber and the Wash when winds come from the NE. A straight Easterly is what is needed for the North Midlands to get a Wash streamer.
  13. A yellow warning is not required for a dusting of snow, which is what 90% of us in the warning area have.
  14. Well that's that for the next couple of hours at least. Huge gap in Northeast Midlands and Lincolnshire.
  15. BBC keep showing lines of intense snow showers going all the way across the country, but they've already been proven wrong once, don't see why this would change tonight.
  16. Unless some more organised snow comes along this is a write off. I think 5cm is the most I've heard of anywhere in East England/Yorkshire/Midlands. In 2018 with the actual BFTE, places were at half a foot of snow from streamers.
  17. Had a look at the Yorkshire and East England thread expecting to see good snow pics but even they are struggling to get past the dusting stage. This isn't anything like 2018, back then it was lines of non-stop snowfall, not showers. Have a feeling the BBC/MetO have ramped this too much.
  18. And then the Peak District does less damage than completely flat land over Nottingham/Lincolnshire.
  19. Well in some places it's great, in others (here) it is cack.
  20. Very poor here, woke up to everything still green. Showers mostly dying in the East Midlands, this wasn't in the forecast.
  21. Looks like it got going now, still on the very light side and not enough call light snow, but starting to give a sprinkle on the car.
  22. Same, big upgrade again, 54 hours of light snow.
  23. Tiny flakes becoming that little bit more consistent. Hopefully looks like things are beginning to get more organised on the East coast. Gutted the floodlight in the garden broke during this lockdown, would be so useful tonight lol.
