  1. Weather headlines are out..although judging by the comments peeps more and more are getting fed up with them and increasingly “it’s winter what do you expect” post seem to appear more. But really who writes these headlines .. brits urged to brace the cold? Urge? Why urge? Brace yourselves it may be a tad nippy. Keep the gloves and hat on.. maybe .. but urge? http://huffp.st/ONSUPhZ ... rant over .. :wallbash::cc_confused::nea::rofl:

I always find it interesting as we begin to approach mid Feb,as the MAD thread often talks of the PV being displaced, well we are approaching the time of year when it naturally gets displaced, as it looses it strength, so I'm not really sure why folks read a lot into the PV being displaced in 10 days time because we will be approaching March by then, so nothing too untoward really. As to SSW I've seen that term for so many years and NOBODY really understands what the impact is likely to be. I've seen years when people panic and hang their calendars on it, and nothing happens, so as in previous years unless somebody can really define the impact, it's just one of those unknowns..Of course I'm nowhere near as knowledgeable as some folks on here as I learnt  at the University of Life..

Just love that post. You may not be as knowledgeable as you say but you have interpreted to the layman or laywoman. That is a skill. :good:

I’m not very good at explaining but my thoughts on this are; there’s a huge pool of cold air high up over the pole, the atmosphere there is going to warm up very quickly and displace this cold air so it’s no longer one big mass; this is good for coldies as it enhances our chances of cold weather

Superstar! Much better - Yep and Wikipedia gave a definition (which I should edit to yours ;) ).  “A sudden stratospheric warming (SSW) is an event where the polar vortex of westerly winds in the winter hemisphere slows down or even reverses direction over the course of a few days. The change is accompanied by a rise of stratospheric temperature by several tens of kelvins.

I would do anything to have my own horse again. Lovely day to be out in it despite the cold. Clouding over here now and very brisk breeze

Aww khodds.. bless you. Go and share loan one near you.. saves the bank balance a bit then.. it was lovely and I normally ride in all weather ( except ice on the roads) , but today i did get a bit hmm that’s getting a bit too chilly. The horse though was loving it and well lively.

I've had far too many tipples to bother with the mad thread, give it to me straight, in simple terms that will make sense to my more than slightly pickled brain, what's happening next week? Snow? No snow? More wind and rain?

Whatever you truly think will happen, will not happen... I’m going to freestyle the weather this week... :pardon::yahoo: que sera sera..

That would be a first..the further south west more chance of snow!!!! The gin is working well tonight..... quick nip as certainly helped my lurgy!

Indeed, whilst I’ll be dissapointed our pesky easterly will block our action in this synopsis, I’ll raise a glass to our Devon and Cornwall members if they get some snow. Fingers crossed.

So how are our cold prospects then for coming week?  Not easy to view from the bar :gathering:

Before the gin, I understood it to be colder, maybe some snow Tuesday, then maybe less colder, maybe not some snow, some ice, or not , maybe rain or not.. after the gin, it’s still colder, maybe not, maybe rain , maybe not... am gonna wait now til next week and just enjoy all you company.. as we wait

Ooh wilderer gin... what is this?

It’s South African apparently but it came from the naked wines .. so they are all small exclusive companies or something or other... there was another gin too I was bought so I may have got it confused. That’s a point where is that other gin bottle? ... must go find that tomorrow :wallbash:

Lol Jay  you’ll not be popular in the SE I mean Mad thread :D

Got a trifle confused when someone posted they were fed up with all the north south rubbish - I thought blimey that M4 again is being quite the antagonist - Then I realised I looking at a post on the Mad thread.

I see the radar is showing sleet for some parts of south central. We’ve still only rain... I don’t think it feels too cold either. (Probably just down to  the large slabs of toblerone I have devoured..)
