It's interesting with this upcoming event Thursday night into Friday. The current GFS shows rain turning to snow readily across the SE as the colder 850hpa temps move in from behind. There has been an increasing tendency over the last few days for our weather pattern to correct east. Not only that but from my own experience I don't expect the front to move so quicker into the block of cold air sat over us, have a strange feeling the front is likely to slow down or to be pushed further as it moves eastwards hopefully allowing the cold air to undercut the front. Obviously the NetWx SR currently shows just a band of rain for Friday but if the front doesn't move through so swiftly, who knows what will happen.

"who knows what will happen"....oh yes we do.. :) lots of gin talk, a busy thread,:gathering: a late night, plenty of radar grabs, some praying, some pleading, some lamppost watching and ....rain. :sorry::wallbash:

Points West made for depressing viewing tonight. Front well and truly decayed as it approaches the West Country. Best chance yet of settling snow ? this Winter and even that looks like going pair shaped.

I will not give up on seeing something tomorrow, but hopes are fading fast

Boo Points West. That band is thickening so whatever you are doing Ireland give it that extra va va boom to resist the decaying potential ,.,

  5. Hello Paul

I have tried to search to get the answer to this, but where is the link to explain about how many likes you can have and for how long before they reset - I have a feeling it maybe at my limit as I couldn't like anything, I remember reading somewhere, but cant remember where. Typical me. No rush in answering  - when you have five.

    Thank you!

    North Easterlies aren't that 'rare' - :D:yahoo:

ha ha - good old dictionary -  doesn't give an immediate antonym of "prevailing" as in south westerly. Being coastal girl, it is so often a south westerly . ...Planes at Heathrow today have changed their landing and take off on account of the more easterly - which is less prevalent than the westerly direction operation at 30% of the time. Just love that fact - and noticeable from our office today.

Well the airport is at 3, so going by its height in relation to our location 5-6 degrees in probably about correct.

Anyway all temperatures showing as karlos have posted are not that cold really if we are in a cold snap.

Unless you factor in the " rare" north easterly on top... and its feel factor Chevron? :cold:. If it was the prevailing south westerly then the temps then may not be that cold really?. I flipping felt it this morning riding out first thing and I am out in all weathers every week.. thermals and about 10 layers. Lovely though. :yahoo:

Perhaps you should lower your expectations then... This aint Canada

It's the same value here in Chichester where I work, and it has snowed this morning very lightly. That to me means we are in a cold spell.

Annoyingly this line of showers missed me though :wallbash:

IOW Members should watch with interest as these enter the Solent! Possibly might beef up a tad :)

:good:My childhood home is Chichester - still family there so I know the weather characteristics well. If it has snowed in Chichester that says a lot! think it maybe to do with the Downs normally it protects Chichester. When rest of the south coast is grey and dull, you can almost bet sunshine over Chichester Harbour and Bognor.. our family have always called it the Thorney Window.

BBC reports on the severe weather in the South East...

Kent Police said "heavy snowfall" had affected the M20 near Maidstone and conditions were poor on other roads.

And METO head forecaster is quoted as saying this below on the BBC website - keep that quote " don't expect to build a snowman" ... - Will this have the jinx of the infamous Michael Fish "no hurricane".comment.. :shok::D... ;)

"Quite a lot of the UK will see some snow as we head through Tuesday, but as it ventures into the Midlands, south-west England and eventually later in the day across south-east England, it's just going to be a few flakes," Mr Snell said.

"Don't expect to build a snowman."

The cold snap is expected to last until next weekend, with milder weather on the way the following week
