  1. I always find that Bonfire night is misty and foggy, I know most of it is down to firework and bonfire smoke but this year we had a misty saturday night when most people did fireworks and then sunday night when there wasnt as many here it was the thickest fog I had saw, could hardly see over the road it was that dense!
  2. Is that picture on the main page of that beach from South Wales? I'm sure I have been to that beach before!
  3. Well the top 2 were true! I remember this year, how many people had their tops down on the cars in spring when we had that fine weather? Then look what happened! Terrible terrible summer.
  4. Thank you for taking the time to do the Winter forecast, much appreciated I always take long range forecasts with a pinch of salt because it is hard to predict the weather 1-2 weeks away let alone 2-3 months into the future. We will have to see what has happened by march 2008 and see if the winter forecast turned out to be pretty accurate I would loooooooooooove a below average winter temperature wise! We deserve a great winter after all the disapointments in the past? Surely
  5. Having just read this thread I am pleased to see well respected forecasters and charts pointing to a colder than average winter But I must say that I am not going to start thinking this is likely to happen until it actually does happen. How many times have we been let down by almost promises of a cold snap coming up and it never materialised? I remember that easterly that the charts teased us with at the start of 2006, that was within a reliable time range and it looked amazing until it went belly up with about 4-5 days to go! For now I think I will just look to the short term weather and a bit more sunshine before october. The charts are looking good at the moment with high pressure not moving far even out to 14 days time. October onwards though, that is when I will really start looking towards winter which is my favourite time of the year
  6. Had quite a big storm here today that lasted an hour or so, frequent lightning and a couple of lightning bolts too, very close to our house
  7. I think for me it has to be the thundersnow for the sheer heavyness of the snow and how well it settled and then froze over and caused chaos a few hours later when it got dark! In terms of overall snowfall and how long it stayed on the ground I would have to say the end of December 2000 when I saw around 3-4 inches of snow that stayed for about 4 days In terms of best event though, yes it would have to be the thundersnow and I haven't seen thundersnow before it or after it. The way the snow came down and settled too was amazing! It was raining mostly all day and the ground was soaked then it started to rain pretty heavy when the band of thundersnow reached me but then it quickly turned into a full scale blizzard and dumped about 3 inches on us in the space of an hour and a half, had no trouble settling on wet ground at all!
  8. Would just like to point out that many places in the east midlands and central southern England saw snow a day before his prediction, and then on the day of his prediction the south east saw snow, thats more than a few isolated places IMO.
  9. Personally I think you would see snow from it, any precip over you from now until 6am I would expect to be snow I'm far from an expert so I dont for any minute think i'm right  But from what i can see in terms of temperatures and other factors I would say you could get mostly snow from the 2nd band before all snow turns to rain across southern and central England and Wales Tomorrow afternoon.
  10. But if what he predicts comes off then I dont think we can have any complaints.
  11. Thanks Yeh I just love seeing it falling even if it doesen't settle! Maybe Matthews prediction will turn out to be true if that band crosses us tonight and gives some more snow for a time... It will technically be the 10th after midnight
  12. Yum Yum thank you Roberto Glad you still have snow coming down The edge of the band of snow gave us a lil bit of a dusting on the pavements about half hour ago but its cleared away now so it will soon melt again, i'm hoping to see some more at some time between 12 and 6am from that second band, but its borderline at the moment, so its a case of wait and see!
  13. I'm moving to sedgley, any houses for sale near you? Its amazing how 40 miles east all we have is melted snow on the grass and the pavements have a dusting left. Yet you have a dumping!
  14. I personally think any precip around Wales or the Midlands will all be of sleet or snow until 6am, then after that, who knows when it will turn to rain. Guessing around 9-10am maybe? But I'm by no means an expert and I am just basing my prediction on what the charts are telling me.
  15. I'm still not convinced that the 2nd band is all of rain, as I said before, when it reaches Wales it will snow in places away from the coasts and as it comes into the Midlands I expect it to be falling as sleet and snow, thats until it turns to rain in the late morning i'd say. Cant see it turning to rain in Wales or the Midlands before 6am.
  16. Deelightuk, The heavier part is just knocking on the doorstep of Doncaster now I would expect you to start seeing some heavy snow soon.
  17. Awesome!! Looks like its hammering down, I think Matthews prediction came a day early but I think we can let him off with that Looks like you could have at least another hour of it judging by the radar
  18. The precip type radar works by what the GFS charts show though, according to the GFS it would be snow over you but it turned out to be sleety stuff instead, if the radar was actually done by using reports of what was falling around the UK then it would be more accurate.
  19. Yes it is here, been sleety snow all day then in the last half hour BANG snow with big flakes and settling even on the road which had puddles on, gunna stop soon according to the radar though so no doubt will soon melt again
  20. What the heck has just happened!!!!! Am I dreaming!!?? Just looked out the window and its snowing like crazy with huge flakes and its starting to settle on the road which had puddles on about an hour ago Noooooooooooo its just starting to get good and the PPN is moving north now! (hangs onto the PPN's legs and begs it not to go) How the heck has this happened, I know the temps are bound to drop after the sun goes down but I never expected full on snow like this at any point today!
  21. Nooooo me wants more cookies and hot chocolate! I need to comfort eat and drink after seeing my snow melt at midday and have sleety snow since which didnt come close to settling! While Coalville 15 miles north west of me still have 2 inches on the ground and its settling there still. Cookies and hot choccy all the way!
  22. How unfair is that! 15 miles north west of me have still gor around 2 inches laying by the looks of it and my snow melted by midday, 15 miles south west of me have had heavy snow for the past 2 hours while I had heavy snow for around 40 mins and its now turned back to sleet, dear oh dear oh dear! *looks for the overdose to do himself in*
