  1. Absolutely awful run!! Just as I thought the battle was being upgraded with each run, this 06z just wrecks the potential altogether. Dear oh dear oh dear
  2. Same for me Wellington this run looks good for central southern england and the midlands! With me being in the midlands then it certainly is something to keep an eye on, im hoping to see snow falling from the sky at least if it settles then its a big bonus!
  3. I agree Stephen, I mean all I want from this is a dusting, if I get more then fantastic! But I am always cautious about things that look good 4 days away, only will I get excited when the snow is falling and the radar looks good, thats the only time I get truly excited about how much snow will fall and the fact that it is actually snowing I mean this potential battle ground scenario was showing up on the GFS 3-4 days ago so it's not like it's only just picking up the potential for it to happen, it seems to me the closer we are getting to it, the more it upgrades which can only be a good thing of course!
  4. Impressive 06z for the battle ground scenario I was talking about Each run seems to get better in terms of it pulling off, especially if the PPN comes to most areas after dark, thats when the best chance would be, still 4 days off yet though and things will change. Looks decent though so far
  5. When I saw the title of this thread I thought it was something to do with the Fawlty Towers episode where Basil had told Manuel he knew nothing about the money that he won on a racehorse, and later on when he needed Manuel to tell his wife that the money was his, Manuel went "I know notthingg, I know nottthingg!"
  6. Hmmm 06z not as good as last nights 00z, I hope the 12z picks up the 00z's trend again though otherwise it is game over.
  7. Catchmydrift, I had never heard of the term of 'snowplough' in regards to a certain weather event, maybe thats something to look out for in future, a snow plough coming over the UK That snowplough defanitly gave me the best snowfall and snowcover I have seen for about 10 years. I mean for it to snow around 3-4 inches and then stay for the best part of 4 days with temps as low as -13 in places, it didn't have a chance of melting! Unlike every snow event we have had since then when as soon as daylight breaks, it starts to melt
  8. December 28th/29th 2000 I remember this event as probably my most memorable snow event since I have been alive, Temps dropped as low as -13 across some parts of the Midlands and in Leicester we had 3-4 inches fall and stayed for days as the temperature never got above freezing even at the warmest point in the day. Here is a BBC article about it... http://news.bbc.co.uk/onthisday/hi/dates/s...000/2547421.stm It must be one of the most potent cold snaps for many people in the last 15 years, here are just some of the things that are said in the article... It is the first significant widespread snowfall in Britain for seven years with overnight temperatures falling to their lowest for more than ten years. Northern Ireland has seen the worst snow fall in 18 years. London was covered in snow for the first time since 1994 and the Millennium wheel was brought to a halt because of ice. While parts of Devon, Cardiff and Cumbria were covered in one inch of snow, up to six inches fell in Wales. A powerful cold weather front known as The Snowplough has been pushing snow in a loop across Scandinavia, Scotland and Ireland down over England towards France, covering the whole of Britain for the first time in six years.
  9. It's ok Gracie Yeah the city centre usually struggles to have snow settling so its surprising that it got about 2-3cm! I think it's like the warmness of the buildings and the fact its all a built up area around City's like in our case of Leicester and Nottingham. But in more rural areas and areas away from the City warming effect snow can settle better and last longer on the ground. I'm surprised you missed that thundersnow event in 2004, people seem to think that because it was called thundersnow it means that it thundered a fair bit, but where I am it started off as rain then started to change to sleety snow, then 5 minutes later it turned into a full on blizzard with a few cracks of thunder, and that was all the thunder we got from it. But it did carry on snowing a blizzard and lasted for about an hour or more!
  10. Fordy, I agree it was a good event for us, but in december 2000 we did get 3 inches that stuck around for around 3-4 days. I remember the thundersnow well, it was Jan 28th 2004 and that gave us about 2-3 inches aswell before it frosted over and caused havoc across the east midlands driving wise. I have a mate who lives in Hinckley and he has pictures of that event aswell so you defanitly would have got it.
  11. Gracie, the town centre usually doesen't fare as well as the outskirts of Leicester when it snows. It's usually a degree warmer than where I live 3 miles away from he city centre, I live on a slight hill aswell and our road had around 5cm at 3am on wednesday morning, by 12pm though most of it had melted which was a shame
  12. Well in Leicester I reported around 5cm fell but 30 miles south east of me, mackerel sky reported around 7cm I'm sorry at sounding like I know what amounts of snow Kent got last night, it's just by the time it was around 10pm and it looked as though Kent would have got a few heavy snow showers and not much of a streamer/trough which would give hours of continious snowfall I said I would be very surprised if they now got the forecasted 5-10cm, so for a joke I said I would eat my keyboard if they got that much And a few people in Kent last night were reporting either a dusting which had melted or just a wet ground with no snow cover at all, at that point I was saying about how I said that the 5-10cm forecasted wouldn't happen and it looked as though it hadn't happened, but if you got 4-5cm then fair enough, I'm not calling you a liar The only reason I was saying about you not having 5-10cm was because I had said I would eat my keyboard if anywhere in Kent had got that sort of snow cover and I was jokingly trying to say that you hadn't got 5cm because I didn't want to have to eat my keyboard I'm sorry if I came across as a bit arrogant about it, I am far from an arrogant person and I actually hate arrogance, it's just I felt confident after following every radar run and getting reports of the snow struggling to settle in Kent last night that I was willing to put my neck on the line and make such a big comment as to say I would eat my keyboard  Sorry again if I offended you Tamara
  13. No need because I dont believe 5-10cm of snow fell last in Kent
  14. mmmmm I'm not so sure Tamara, I think it's more of a case that the hills had some snow left over from the front that came down through southern areas on wednesday morning, therefor last night just topped it up. You say you had 5cm, which I do believe by the way, but sometimes people can over estimate the snow cover.
  15. Looks like I survived the keyboard eating then Told you that if anywhere in Kent got 5-10cm last night I would eat my keyboard, this is how confident I was that it wouldn't happen. I said some places might have got 2-4cm but anything over that just wasn't going to happen. And it appears that quite a few people in Kent woke up to either a dusting or nothing at all which isn't surprising IMO. How was the cold spell for me? Well I was defanitly pleased with it, I got 5cm of snow from the occluded front that pushed into the east midlands from the north on tuesday night into wednesday morning and it snowed non-stop for 4 hours and a bit which made me delighted Now what I would like to see is a nationwide big snowy cold snap in Feb or March that will give most people 10cm+ I know it's not that likely to happen but we really need a lot of snow between now and april to make up for the relativly snowless winter so far!
  16. Had 4 hours of snow last night which gave 5cm Very happy with that!
  17. "The month starts with a high risk of significant snow fall, accompanied by strong winds, which will lead to widespread disruption. Temperatures will be below average, so severe night frosts are a distinct possibility. As we move towards the middle part of February, we enter a dry but very cold snap, with temperatures remaining in minus figures by both day and night." Cushty
  18. John I saw the other day you mentioned being in disbelief at the fact the BBC could forecast fog for like 5 days in a row... Because you said its very hard to forecast when a place is going to have foggy conditions. So far though the BBC has been correct, well for me anyway  and its forecasting more fog up until monday! I wouldn't bet against that being right.
  19. Thanks for this John It certainly is quite a complex thing to understand for little rookies like me but you have gave a very good explanation on it.
  20. No one got any reports for today yet? I was surprised there wasnt a thread for today already, looks like a few beefy showers around scotland and with the cooler air surely there has been some wintry showers?
  21. What a scorcher of a chart B) and that thundersnow event we some real good snow from that!
  22. Wherever that lightning bolt struck or whatever it struck it certainly must have caused some serious damage!
  23. Thats awesome thanks for adding them pics!
  24. Weather is misty this morning which is a shame! because i was hoping today was going to be a sunny day with not much cloud around now, the models seem to say theres going to be more cloud than sun now and if today is anything like yesterday this gloom wont budge all day!
