Down in Oxford for a long weekend snd it's just started snowing here from that band moving up from the south. So you lot in the Midlands have nothing to worry about -

Spot on. You can see the PPN over the south midlands picking up already as the stuff to the south bumps into it and intensifies it. -

Well, turned out to be a pretty eventful day for me decided to head down to Oxford on my motorbike a day early to be with my family for my birthday weekend. Left Rushden around 2:30pm when it wasn't too bad. Main roads were clear, although light snow was falling. As soon as I hit the Towcester area, the snow started getting heavier and was starting to settle on the A43! By the time I got just past Brackley, I had to pull into a layby as it was becoming too dangerous to carry on on my bike. So there I was, freezing cold, stranded about 20 miles from Oxford not knowing what to do! Tried to ring my breakdown recovery but they had me on hold for ages. Luckily a man in a 4x4 pick up truck who was also heading to oxford pulled over for me and managed to get my bike on the back of his truck. If it wasn't for him, I genuinely think my life may have been in danger. Sounds far fetched but it was so cold, could have got hyperthermia fairly quickly and I was around a 2 mile walk from any shops etc! Lesson learned there, never head out on my motorbike when snow is forecast in Oxford now and everything is covered in this fine, almost dust like snow! So powdery, never seen anything like it before. -

Update here in rushden... snowing lightly for the past hour, now a dusting on the road which was clear earlier and topping up the 3-4cm we have on the grass. Amazing how powdery this stuff is though, can't remember the last time, if ever, i've seen snow this powdery in England. -

It looks like the Oundle/Peterborough area had a fair bit this evening when i checked it on the radar. Don't suppose you know how much they got do you? Supposed to be working 2 night shifts at a care home in Oundle on Wed and Thurs night but bit concerned about the lying snow they may have as my only method of transport is a motorbike and I nearly came off about 3 times during the last snowfall we had in December! -

Just down in Oxford till Wednesday visiting family and we've just had a moderate shower that left a dusting! Nice surprise as the showers had been missing us all day. -

I think you may be in for a nice surprise in the morning! Showers are merging into more organised bands of snow. Most of it light stuff at the moment but heavier PPN coming in behind it! I don't think it will have any issues reaching the West Midlands Friday... Could be one for the record books if it comes off! 25-30cm possible widespread. Current radar... -

Never mind Tuesday, looks like a few cm's are possible in some parts of the Midlands tomorrow! East Midlands especially. -

LE3! I was born and raised in Leicester, lived for 24 years in Braunstone Town (the better part of Brauny). Living in Northamptonshire these days but do miss Leicester a lot. Hope to move back at some point. Anyway enough of my life story, time to refresh the hell out of the radar runs! -

Here they come! Marching in from the East this could be a helluva tasty next 5 days or so! Not seen a proper Beasterly like this for years now. -

I reckon my old stomping ground of Leicester will do well in this! My current location of Rushden... Not so good. -

This upcoming Easterly has the potential to be a classic. Still a lot of uncertainty about where the heaviest snow will fall but i'd expect the whole of the Midlands to see something this coming week. -

The difference this time is those mammoth cold uppers! Some model runs suggest we could see 850's of -15. There's no way rain or sleet would fall in that situation, not even on the coast! Still a fair way off yet though and there doesn't look to be much PPN around for the Midlands. -

I know it's only one run but is it me or is the 12z GFS run today a downgrade on yesterdays? Please don't let this start downgrading now after all the hype -

Just on the night shift tonight and checked the models for the first time since Friday. All I can say is... WOW! What the heck is going on even the ECM is showing a proper Easterly and that's the sensible model that rarely ramps up cold like the GFS! -

Looks like it's going to be a lovely sunny day today. Could be as high as 12c on Monday! Might get me shorts out All the serious cold is in F.I at the moment. Could be an Easterly around the start of March, I hope there is as my 30th birthday is on the 5th of March! A nice, cold, snowy easterly would take the edge off not being in my 20's anymore -

Wow that's awesome Matt! Looks reslly good on their high def TV too definitely one of the best weather pictures I have seen. Hoping for some showers from the East next week. Being in Rushden (East Northamptonshire) now, I probably have the best chance of snow from an Easterly that i've ever had. Previously I lived in Leicester for 24 years and 4 years in Oxford. Leicester did ok from some Easterly's we had over the years but I can imagine places like Peterborough, Kettering, Corby, Rushden etc... are pretty much prime locations for them. -

Holy moly! The charts for next week look VERY cold. Might be quite dry for us Midlanders but there's no doubt it'll put us in the freezer if it comes off. -10 850's nationwide.
