The Midlands Regional Weather Discussion - 07/12/2017 Onwards

IMO Peterborough is in a very good position. Far enough North to not be bothered by the mild sector and far enough South to be in the main band of precip. I work in oundle so not far from Peterborough. Nice area -

Tbh, Kettering is about 15 miles north of Rushden and you have an even better chance of snow than me so you should be ok. -

Yeah I hope so too! I live in Rushden now so i'm in the same boat as you. I'm a bit pessimistic about tomorrow as I think Northampton/Rushden will be right on the line between rain and snow. -

I would urge caution at the moment. I've seen the GFS outdo the UKMO in borderline scenario's at this timeframe in the past, more than once. Don't discount the Gfs yet but i'm hoping that the UKMO is correct. If the GFS turns out to be correct, my location will see sleet at best and I won't be a happy bunny -

You live in Stoke? Tbh, i'd say Stoke was in a pretty good spot for this event. Far enough north to not be dragged into thr mild sector and the PPN should definitely reach you too. -

The Leicester snow shield my friend! Was breached once in Dec 2010 but has since been repaired -

Agreed! The amount of times over the years that Shropshire has missed out on snow while other areas of the Midlands have had it has been ridiculous. Sunday is looking very interesting now IMO. I reckon pretty much anywhere in the Midlands could be in the firing line. The PPN is there without a doubt. The only thing that remains to be seen is how far north that milder sector goes. At the moment it looks like it'll go no further north than say Berkshire/Oxford but we shall see. -

Doing a night shift in a care home in Oundle (near Peterborough) tonight. A small band of snow is right on our doorstep! I keep checking the window when my collegues aren't looking ? -

Last night I did think that we had to be cautious about getting too carried away and that applies more than ever now. From what i can see from the 12z run, sleet and snow showers will feed in through the Cheshire gap during tomorrow. West Midlands and Staffordshire should see a dusting at lower levels with a covering possible higher ground. Now my main concern is this possible event for Saturday night into Sunday. I mentioned last night that I thought the 850's were too high for snow to lower levels and it looks even worse now than it did last night! I don't want to be a killjoy but personally i'm not getting my hopes up for the possible Saturday night event. It may start as snow on the very leading edge but I can't see it staying as snow anywhere under 250m. -
I'm supposed to be travelling to my girlfriends house in Rugby on Friday night. I hope the snow holds off for a bit i'm travelling on a bloody motorbike so it could be a bit dicey!

Aye, I am indeed, fizzychops Although, Rushden is a strange location. It's kind of Midlands and bordering on being East England. Would prefer to be back in grand ol Leicester but it's alright! Oxford was bloody expensive to live in, Rushden is much cheaper ?

Good point, there is that. I still think they may be too high for daytime snow at low levels though. We shall see, I hope i'm wrong

Dat double snow symbol though! Not seen that for years?

Well, the rest of that run didn't turn out as I was expecting *looks for expletive emoticon* If only that high over Greenland at T153 was about 300 miles further South, we'd be in business! Oh well, still more changes to come and it's only November. Still a long way to go ths winter. -

This may not actually turn out to be a bad run in the longer term. High building over Greenland and after the initial low throwing a spanner into the works, it may turn out to be a pretty blocked scenario. -

GFS 12z rolling out soon. Going to be an interesting one i'm sure! I'm expecting another downgrade but i'll gladly be proven wrong I knew I shouldn't have got carried away with last nights 18z. Was lured in by the pub run AGAIN -

Yeah it's definitely not as good as the 18z out to t180 but it's still not the worst chart i've seen for late November and a lot better than the UKMO I sincerely hope the UKMO is wrong this time. Squeaky bum time though. -
