  1. Haha!! Pheww! I think the meto ended up with egg on faces this morning. They may not have forecast much in the way of snow for the Midlands but they did forecast a couple of cm's for the South East in the early hours of this morning and they've had nothing but rain!
  2. So did Northampton get a CM of snow or am I safe from having to run through Oxford in just my pants?
  3. Despite cycling home from work and getting absolutely soaked, I couldn't help but think about 'what if'. It's been raining continious here all day since around 9:30. It's picked up again now and is raining quite heavily. We must have had around 20-25mm of rain in the past 12 hours here. If only it had been a few degrees colder and if only the colder air had arrived this morning. Could have been looking at a dumping of snow instead, we have flooded roads.
  4. Haha! Well it was pretty poor for snow events when I was there but it started to improve a bit just before I moved away! Dec 2010 was a pretty good event which stuck around for a good 4-5 days. Also Jan 2013 was pretty good for snow too. I moved to Oxfordshire in Feb 2013 and seen like 2-3cm at best here. That melted about 6 hours later anyway!
  5. They've been on the funny fags again. If Northants even gets a CM tonight, I will run around Oxford City centre in just my pants and get someone to film it as proof!
  6. Been a rubbish Winter hasn't it fizzychops. Recurring theme for the last few years now really.
  7. Agreed Nick but the local Weather forecast just said a bit of sleet and snow here later! 1-2cm possible she said but i ain't buying it.
  8. Is it just me or did anyone else expect this band to be hanging around longer than it is? According to the models, it shouldn't be clearing the West midlands until between 12am and 3am but it is already clearing away from the West Midlands!! 6 hours early. Pretty much killed any hope of seeing any back edge snow for anywhere in Central England. Cold air won't arrive till the early hours and at this rate it'll be gone by midnight even from Oxfordshire!
  9. Hahaha! Ummm, I will reveal the date in a week or 2 I fancy a nice couple of ciders and a hog roast around willinglossop's house when the next cold spell is due. It'll probably be the only place that will see snow! It is absolutely FREEZING out there tonight. Caught the train home from work, cycled from the station and no word of a lie, it was hurting my chest to breathe in! Xcweather reckons that it's -3 near my location and i'm not at all surprised. If anything, it feels even colder than that. Frost has stayed in shaded areas all day and it has looked very wintry.
  10. I'll go one better than that This is my forecast for the next Midlands snow event... A snow shield will pop up over Shrewsbury and snow showers will skirt around the town, missing by just a few miles. Birmingham will be forecast 10-15cm of snow with 12 hours to go before the 'event', only for the band of snow to take a huge detour and dump 20cm over Nottingham, Derby, Leicester and Northants. The band will then stall before it reaches Oxford, head back Northwards, stall again over Glossop and stay there for days. Leaving a 6 foot dumping of snow and willinglossop roasting chestnuts and a pig on an open fire. Let's see how accurate it turns out to be
  11. Yeah I would say so. A battleground scenario or a potent Easterly are normally the best setups for the East Midlands.
  12. Maybe that was the snow I remember as a kid. I would only have been 3 years old at that point but I have this memory that has stayed with me throughout the years. I can remember getting in a taxi with my mum, driving around 200 yards and getting stuck in deep snow at the end of the road! Must have been about 15-20cm on the road from what I can remember. Leicester normally does alright from a good Easterly.
  13. Stratford and Oxford have done so badly from this. Not even seen a flake here! Sleet last night was the best we got.
  14. Well, the rain has turned to sleet here. Shame the PPN is moving away rapidly
  15. Is anyone else surprised at how far East this has ended up? The 06z and 12z model runs showed the band of PPN slap bang over the Centre of England. Instead the main bulk of it is over Cambridge and heading towards East Anglia. How can the models get the positioning of the band so wrong 6-12 hours before?! It's a good 100 miles out for goodness sake.
  16. I think you may be right I did see 2 brilliant snow events in Leicester in 2010 and 2012 but from 2001-2010 we hardly had anything decent. It's funny because in 2009, Oxford had a pretty good covering and Leicester got hardly anything. When I moved down here I thought i'd see some decent snow events as it is in a good location for Channel lows. Been really poor though in the last 3 years I am genuinely considering moving back to Leicester though. I am in a stable job down here and I do like Oxford but the flat and house prices are ridiculous and I do kinda miss my friends. Mum has just text me saying that they have a covering in Leicester!
  17. Thanks, the forecast I made at lunchtime was pants though I thought Birmingham would do well and that Fizz would see 3-5cm. To be fair though, the models did change a bit by the time the 12z run came out. By 6pm I could see that the East Mids would be the sweet spot for this,
  18. I really do feel your pain. All we have had is rain really. had a few flurries earlier but that was it. it's now pure drizzle out there, not even sleet! Sickening when you consider that Warwickshire has a dusting and so does Leicester. I might move back to Leicester at this rate Best snow I've seen down here is about 2cm and it melted the next day.
  19. Certainly is Ok, so some heavier PPN has just arrived here and I can confirm, it is...... RAIN! What a joke.
  20. Whereabouts in Calverton do you live? My sister lives in Collyer road. This is flippin' typical. Snow in Leicester now and nothing down here in Oxford. Also the PPN is way too far East now! The main event looks to be over the East Midlands and will slide down into London and the South East. the models were about 50-100 miles out in predicting this band of PPN!
  21. Hmmmm, just seen a few flurries in the security light here in Oxford. It does feel bitterly cold as well, must be 2c tops. Maybe bodes well for later but we shall see. The precip still looks too far East to me.
  22. Well, judging by the Villa vs Leicester game that i'm watching, it is raining in Birmingham!
  23. To be honest I still think it looks good for you mate. Leicester could be in a good position tonight and Melton Mowbray even better. Oxford though, about 20% of anything settling i'd say
  24. Is it just me or is the PPN way further East than originally forecast? Really bad news IMO because that means the mild sector will be further East. Looks like it could be an East Midlands event i'm afraid.
  25. I think you'll do alright out of this, fizzychops. I'm going with 3-5cm for you.
