  1. Well folks, tonights 18z is a cracker. Mass ramping in the model thread but people still being cautious and not getting TOO carried away. I'm trying to remain calm but I am getting slightly carried away by it, I must admit? That would put us well and truly in the freezer if it comes off!
  2. OH..MY! Well I know we can't get carried away but tonights 18z GFS is a beauty. Anyone else having deja vu from Nov 2010's cold spell? Looks similar at the moment but it's still early days of course and there will be a lot of changes before next week. Still, this is only just a week away so it's coming within a reasonably reliable timeframe now. Still somewhat F.I though. Lets just enjoy this chart for next Thursday...
  3. I know it's wayyy into F.I but i've seen worse from the models for the end of November!
  4. Ello ello ello! I'm officially a Midlander again (just) I live in Rushden in Northants now. Hoping for a nice snowy Winter, probably won't get one again but last Winter was absolutely atrocious. I now ride a motorbike as well so it's a little more dangerous for me personally if we have a cold and snowy Winter but i still want snow and lots of it xD Hopefully see many familiar faces on here again this Winter
  5. Nope, no PPN around when the cold air arrives Think of how much snow we'd have on the ground now if it had been 3c cooler when that rain arrived on Saturday night and also last night and today. Would be looking at snow in depths of feet!
  6. Exactly! it's the wind that's the issue. 5c here in Cov but with heavy rain and a gusty wind, it's horrible.
  7. Feels cold when all you have on is jeans and a jumper forgot to take my coat up to my girlfriend's at the weekend. It was dry when I left on Friday!
  8. Absolutely horrible here in Coventry. Heavy persistent rain and bitterly cold
  9. Just the PPN hitting the colder air over the Midlands at the moment. Higher ground like parts of Birmingham will probably get some sleet/wet snow for a few hours before the mild sector hits in the early hours.
  10. Damn that mild sector for Sunday morning that would have potential to be a good event for higher ground in the Midlands. If only that mild sector would kindly shift 50-100 miles further East As for tonight, feels absolutrly bitter out there at 4c. A nice streamer has set up from the Bristol channel but sadly, as is often the case down here in Oxford, temp is too high
  11. Hello everyone back for the winter! I've been keeping my eye on that low pressure system for the weekend now for the past few days. I'm staying in Rugby at the weekend as my girlfriend lives there and as it currently stands, they have a better chance of seeing something wintry fall from the sky than Oxford do on Saturday night and Sunday! Looks like it may be sleet at best but it could change! I think areas in the Midlands above 200m could do well from it. Lickey Hills could get a dumping if the mild sector stays away!
  12. It settled here in Kennington at 10:30pm! Only a dusting but totally unexpected.
  13. Wow! Had a heavy hail shower half an hour ago that left a dusting! Completelt unexpected. The only reason I knew was because I could hear it on the window!
  14. Been smashing it down all night and still going! Must be over 20mm of rain now since midnight. If only it had been snow. Sigh.
  15. I won't lie, that is one big band of rain heading our way! Can't remember the last time I saw a band of rain that heavy and that wide before! Seen heavy bands of rain that are narrow but that is a monster.
  16. I noticed that the 850's are about -4c but I have seen snow falling with those uppers before when the ground temp has been low enough.
  17. What do you make the dew point? According to Oxford airport on XCweather, it is 0c there with a dew of -2! I'm in Didcot now and it's raining! Can't believe it's raining with temps like that.
  18. This just sums up the Winter for me. The current temp here is 0c and the dew is -2. The PPN arrives and it's raining Wow, final nail in the coffin.
  19. It's always brilliant to be on here during Winter. The ups and downs of the models, the near misses, the joy when a snow event actually comes off! It's all great fun in the end, even if the last few Winters have been a disappointment. Take it easy mate and see you again soon.
  20. Oxford snow shield is on full power again today. Despite the radar showing that we should be having light sleet/snow, we have naff all.
  21. Brilliant of you to drive up there from Brum! I'm sure your daughter loved it and I bet you did as well The most i've seen this Winter is a few flakes falling from the sky. Even then it was mixed in with rain!
  22. And I remember when you were only 30 time seems to fly once you reach 20 though. I don't even know where the last 8 years have gone.
  23. Thank youuu Yes it is my birthday tomorrow. 28, getting old i'm going down to Watford for it to watch Leicester play. Hope we win! Yeah I have seen snow in April before up in Leicester. We are due a big snow event again in the Midlands! Maybe next Winter
  24. And earlier when I was in Oxford, it showed snow over us and it was light rain before it fizzled out completely. I'm getting completely mugged off by the Weather Gods.
  25. It's lying, fizzychops. The precip is doing a runner from Oxford. I actually saw more snow falling in Birmingham this evening than Oxford! Unbelievable.
