  1. Look how much it's fizzled out in the past hour!! As soon as I stepped off the train it just broke up over Oxford
  2. You could not make this up!! I get off the train in Oxford, everywhere is soaked but nothing is falling. I'm confused and I check the radar, a hole has opened up over Oxford!!! This is unbelievable I swear i'm cursed.
  3. You are kidding me!? I hope Oxford has some snow falling. On xcweather Oxfors airport is reporting 1c temp with 0c dew and 'snow'.
  4. Ok this is interesting. Left the NIA arena in birmingham, sleet and wet snow falling. Train goes through Leamington Spa and it seems to be snowing quite a bit there. I've looked at the radar and it looks like Oxford is kopping for it right now! 1c with a dew of 0c and snow. Can't wait for this train to hurry up and get there It's my birthday tomorrow, what a present this would be.
  5. Cheers mate! Murray battering him so far!!
  6. Wow, he's taken me to see the Davis Cup!! Cmon!!
  7. Well well well well. My Uncle has taken me on a surprise trip somewhere for my birthday. We are currently on a train somewhere outside Birmingham and I can confirm it's snowing!! Didn't expect to see snow today. I still don't even know where he's taking me I suspect Leicester but not sure.
  8. I don't mean to blow my own trumpet but I did say Glossop is like flippin Narnia. Beautiful day down here though, wall to wall sunshine and it feels warm in the sun.
  9. Anybody else surprised by how mild the temps are? Birmingham currently 5c and dew 5c. Oxford 6c wirh 5c dew. Even Nottingham is 5c with 4c dew. Not even close to being sleet let alone snow!
  10. Oh would you look at that. What a surprise, main bulk of PPN clearing the Midlands already and it's not even midnight yet. Colder air doesn't arrive till 3-6am. You arrived too early!!
  11. The 12z GFS run has pretty much killed all hope of snow for the Midlands. The front moves through a bit quicker and the colder 850's don't make inroads into the Midlands until around 3-6am. By which point, the PPN looks to have moved through. Absolutely typical.
  12. Will, I did say yesterday that you'd probably get about 20cm in Glossop. This time I wasn't messing around It looks like the system stalls over the peak district tonight and tomorrow. Nailed on for you guys up there now to get a pasting.
  13. Hmmmm, tonights possible event Very unsure about this one. It will be a very close call. I think areas in the Midlands above 200m will do alright out of it. My only concern is what speed the PPN clears away. At the moment it looks like it will start off as rain and turn to snow on the back edge. Which is a bit pants if you ask me. We may get lucky if the cold air can dig in while the bulk of the PPN is still around but i'm not too confident of that. My feeling is that at lower levels it'll start as heavy rain and turn to wet snow on the back edge. Will be a case of radar and current temp watching I think!
  14. There is actually snow flakes mixed in with the rain here in Oxford city centre! There is a god
  15. Yes fizzychops!! You must have sent it my way because we are currently going through a heavy shower of sleet and soft hail on the outskirts of Banbury. Maybe it can snow in Oxfordshire after all!
  16. Haha, I think it may need to happen! Send it this way fizzychops, i'm on a train in Coventry at the moment and it's sunny. Then again, doubt I will be in Coventry for long, this train is motoring
  17. Willinglossop will get about 20cm, guarantee you.
  18. Just seen my first snowfall of the whole winter!! It was in Leicester Travelled up to Leicester yesterday to see my family and go to the Leicester vs West Brom game last night and as I was in town today, the heavy rain turned into heavy snow for 5-10 mins! It was big fat wet snow and didn't settle but it was good to see. On the way back to Oxford now, where I expect I will see no more snow!
  19. While I am very disappointed at this mornings 06z run, we have to remember that shortwaves sometimes don't show up on the models until within T48-72. I have lost count of the amount of times that we've seen the models show a cold but dry week and as the week has progressed, shortwaves and troughs have developed and brought about a nice surprise of snow for some people. Most important thing, get the cold in place first and then see what unfolds. We are still 5-6 days away from what could be a good snow event if things were to shift in our favour. The models never handle this type of scenario too well until 2-3 days before. There will be some chopping and changing between now and next weekend and we could yet see an upgrade over the next few days, so lets just wait and see.
  20. The 06z is even worse! I knew it was too good to be true
  21. Got to be honest, I nearly fell off my chair when I saw the 18z run tonight. It is brilliant but we've seen it go wrong this far out so many times. If it's still showing that at 48 hours away, only then will I start to take notice.
  22. What you had for food tonight? Duck à l'orange?
  23. What I don't understand is, the GFS did forecast that it would be a mainly rain affair with a bit of sleet thrown in at higher levels which was pretty accurate. It amazes me how amateur forecasters on here can predict the Weather better than the BBC and MET seem to at times. Might sound like a ridiculous comment but i've lost count of how many times we've got it right on here and the BBC and MET have got it wrong in scenario's similar to last night.
