  1. Yep, wind has been all over the place today. Was SE before the squall line, then veered to NW immediately before the thunder started, then backed SW and has since veered westerly, where it has stayed since. Safe to say there was some circulation within the band although its nature escapes me as the rain was so heavy, everything was greyed-out.

yep agreed seemed this may cause winds to taper a bit.   Not expert is there something trying to develop near Liverpool and Manchester.

  2. Nah Vlad, not what I meant. It's just that the first line was hooking around and another one was forming behind it. This has not quite panned-out now but it is complicated in and around the Humber to Flamborough at the mo. Lots of lines and blobs of convection that are no longer a simple squall line. I am trying to work out how the depression centre, fronts, warm sectors, triple points etc. relate to what we are seeing but, to be honest, I can't make head nor tale of it! Suffice to say, it is more than a simple line of convection around here...

sorry mis-understanding not sure then I do see winds in different directions that's what made me think.you was refering.  :sorry:

  3. Jesus, have you seen the latest GEFS chart, storm force winds in the the far south west as Bertha comes in......overnight Sunday with alot of rain!  The southwest would be affected alot!

I don't think i'll be sleeping much Saturday night....

I've got a feeling this could turn out more severe than forecasters have been saying, yesterday met office said they didn't think it would hit the uk.

Is this going to turn into the 1987 storm scenario?  Batten down the hatches guys, Big Bertha is on her way!!!

    Metchecks thoughts:-

actually agree my fear people wont take warnings serious.  Think met too quick call a miss UK anouncement this been spread by media.  I can only hope its not severe it passes tamely with nice thrill of storm and no lives are at risk.

  4. just had shower from storm system which now in north sea looks like attempting to funnel with lovely vortices in development.

Just been reading about bertha it downgrading noticed this still can hit anywhere but news focus is most likely, storm tracking.  I just checked latest its speed gone upto 43 kts whether its upgrading again too early.

  6. thinking next three days might be some fun.   Thanks Nick F for the forecast everyone else who provides them.   Just reading forecasting it seems it shifted southwards and the jet unlikely to be factor now according Tony Gilbert though still good chance organised thunderstorms.  Can read latest here at the bottom.
