  1. I’d happily swap pre-storm radar excitement for certaincy any day
  2. Ideally - this would allow for the sudden release of the largest amounts of energy. It’s these setups that have provided the best storms in the past
  3. There will be a cap in place during the day - but provided it can be eroded or broken down (by forcings apparently tomo) then the potential of the energy locked in below it can be released in the form of epic hair-singing thunderstorms edit: he beat me to it
  4. Dunno if it’s worth the two hour trek up toward where those showers are forming - they are heading NW so it’s not an easy chase and takes me a long long way from home. i think i’ll save my energy and resources for tomorrow edit: currently near Potters Bar
  5. I’m in EC London - figured i could take the long route home in case anything pops up but I can’t decide between Essex, Kent or Surrey direction. Any ideas?
  6. seems to be clearing along the coasts a bit. Possibility of building some usable energy still for later...
  7. This really good post from Tony over at UKWW regarding potential for East Anglia later on today (provided the right synoptics are available of course!) http://www.ukweatherworld.co.uk/forum/index.php?/topic/119130-convective-outlook-fri-25th-may-2018/page__pid__1048390#entry1048390 I never thought about CIN being eroded top-down. Makes sense though under the appropriate atmospheric conditions I guess...
  8. I was watching this too - saw the storm approaching but needed to sleep so I missed the main event
  9. Just the one glass of wine for me this evening, and one eye on the radar just in case I need to head down the road and take a look at the eastern skies
  10. I personally wouldn’t even try - the storms will pop up and disappear without warning and a lot of the strikes you see on radar can be related to the same bolt (sometimes 3 or 4) Also a lot of it will be IC lightning
  11. We need everything we can get It may only be May but this could be our last chance at thunderstorms for the next seven years
  12. This is when I begin to get disheartened - this ain’t a good start seeing as the first few opportunities have been kind of busts Today looks like a write-off too
  13. Looks like the storms have collapsed. more will pop up soon I suspect
  14. A lot of strikes in the last half hour. Wow can see the flashes from Guildford too
