  1. now now fellas, let's not let this thread descend into namecalling, eh?
  2. not the type of night to get bladdered and fall down drunk, Id say! these charts are getting scary now. In any experts opinion, any chance of this NOT happening now? where would the mild air come from to stop this anyway, realistically?
  3. this time tomorrow, there'll be no more doubt about it. 'throw another polar bear on the barbie mate!' rampiau!
  4. rampiau i reckon we just chucked an 'iau' on to be different!
  5. here in maesteg now, it's well cloudy, and looking at the disappearing moon, I notice the low clouds are moving from South East to North West, and the high clouds are moving from South West to North East. i'm sure I also saw another layer of cloud going in another direction too. It's almost as if it's all swirling above my head. very strange.

  7. start here lorenzo http://forum.netweather.tv/forum/24-learning-area/
  8. yeah, i know. just purchased the radar for a month too. money well spent i reckon.
  9. http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/weather/uk/radar/ southern tip of ireland been getting a soaking the past two hours precipitation not making much headway at the moment, but I think it's fair to say HERE IT COMES!!
  10. not really. i did explain to them that it's a knife edge situation, and that they do NOT want to be caught out. they did understand. it wouldn't be a let down for me, it'd be a relief. Got to keep a beady eye on these things. personally speaking, without taking into account the charts, I have seen many events like this this past five years on here where a low comes steaming up the channel, looking like it's going to give a dumping to the south west, only to dive off into France at the last minute and do them instead. If it does something similar THIS time, this could be epic, wouldn't you say?
  11. yeah, and you are RIGHT in the firing line too! http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/weather/uk/radar/ precipitation just now hitting the extreme south west tip of Ireland.
  12. i'm sitting here in my living room in Maesteg, fire on, heating on, and my toes are bloody freezing! gonna turn them both up to full now, and put my thermal socks on. i think this might well be a memorable couple of days, in the country, and on this forum. don't forget to WARN people, friends and neighbours. I just phoned my brother and my mate, and they both had no clue of the POTENTIAL here. better safe than sorry. they are talking about possible power disruptions. tell whoever you inform about this to make sure they have candles in the house JUST IN CASE. Food shouldn't be as much of an issue because everyone's fridges should still be quite full from Christmas. apparantley, Tesco's here in Maesteg is chock a block today with people panic buying.
  13. update from Ian Fergusson on the 'South West' thread....
  14. often, in situations like this in the past, the low will struggle to make progress, and dive south and give France a dumping. this time though, if it goes more southward, WE are the ones who will get a dumping. It may even stall, and dump all it's moisture over us. who knows, eh? it'll be interesting, whichever way it goes.
  15. agreed i think even you lot down there are gonna get an hammering from this though. This COULD be memorable, (or a damp squib! )
  16. http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/weather/uk/radar/ if you look at the rain radar for the UK, and run it from the beginning at 0430, you can see the precipitation, trying to get in, then being pushed right back. i have a feeling something special might be brewing here.
  17. now, when Jay is reining people in, we really are wandering into the Twilight Zone I think!
  18. this GFS run is one of the most amazing i've seen. if this is how it all turns out, there'll be an MBE for the fella punching the data in this week, I reckon!
  19. this is starting to look more and more like what happened 30 years back. we may just have an extraordinary event on our hands here. now i've gone and done it. 3 days of rain guaranteed now!
  20. if there was 3 days of heavy drifting snow, you'd have huge drifts everywhere, just like in 78 and 82, which were both 3 day events for us here. personally, i'm quite sceptical we'll see any of the white stuff.
  21. Not sure how relevant this is to us and the upcoming cold spell, but apparantley St Petersburg in Russia has had it's heaviest December snowfall this past few days since 1881... ''Heavy snowstorms have caused the delay of 14 flights and affected train traffic in St. Petersburg. The Russian second city's international airport Pulkovo listed 14 flights, including from Moscow, Paris, Salzburg, Helsinki, Hurghada and Barcelona, as delayed as of 6:10 p.m. Moscow time on Saturday, but said airlines from Pulkovo have not been affected. Commuter and other trains have been insignificantly delayed, the city's railroad officials said. St. Petersburg has the worst snow it has seen in December since 1881, meteorologists said. As of Tuesday, the city is under 35 cm of snow that has been falling since Thursday night hampering car traffic and leading to an increase in accidents. Authorities called on city residents on Saturday for helping remove snow from streets as machines have not been coping with the task. "I am appealing to everyone, to your conscience, come to fight the elements," St. Petersburg Governor Valentina Matviyenko said speaking live on Radio Russia. Authorities said troops and emergencies workers will be engaged in cleaning the streets on Sunday.'' http://hisz.rsoe.hu/alertmap/woalert_read.php?glide=SS-20091226-24322-RUS&cat=dis〈=eng
  22. on the 'precipitation type' charts the valleys are only getting rain/sleet from this event http://www.netweather.tv/index.cgi?action=nwdc;sess= snow does hit us on thursday evening, but only for a short time. how accurate are these charts?
