  1. Can someone explain what are "streamers" and "sliders"? As i see them mentioned a lot in here. Thankyou. I'm more of a summer person than a winter person so i don't know these words when following winter charts.
  2. Nothing surprises me anymore. BBC weather app has downgraded snow for my area and is just showing a light dusting of snow for Sunday morning when earlier it was showing heavy all day.
  3. Show me a weather presenter that dances around on live TV in fits of joy when announcing life is going to be severely disrupted by extreme UK weather? I think they'll get at least one complaint if they did. I remember in February 1991 they all had serious faces while announcing a "grim outlook - prepare for prolonged heavy snow". But don't worry I'll be doing the conga to Susan Powell in my living room in the next few days.
  4. Some of the model predictions for February are looking blocked and cold with northern Blocking well and truly locked and the beast with nowhere else to go but our direction. So i think any Atlantic attempts wont last long with all the blocking its showing.
  5. Didn't we have the easterly early on in January with below zero uppers which gave us rain? What a waste that was.
  6. GFS 12z is really just a deja view to what happened 30 years ago this week, which was probably the last snowfest February this country saw.
  7. I am not at all convinced. I will believe the cold charts when they are within a good three/four days range. I still can't believe people are still getting very overly excited over what is being shown at 8 to 10 days. Charts like this have been at Day 8 to 10 since mid November, is it that not enough to convince anyone they wont verify?
  8. Our local papers facebook group (Cheshire Live) cant make up its mind. One day they're warning of floods and more rain to come, next day its snow warnings then its back to the flood warnings. Today they're back to snow warnings.
  9. I'm beginning to think this winter is just turning into another 2019/20 at this rate. We all know those deep cold 'DAY 10' charts wont verify.
  10. Its turning into a right poop winter this is. Just another one for the bin.
  11. Been nearly 2 weeks since the SSW and still nothing nailed up showing in the reliable timeframes but this wasn't a split ssw event and was more of a 2019 displaced event which led to record temps in Feb. I dont think a displaced vortex can allow severe cold into Europe. Normally its USA that benefits from cold in displaced events.
  12. If you think GFS is laughable then check out the CFS, it goes out for 9 months on the Meteociel site
  13. How often does is snow in Spain?? Seems to be a deep freeze over there.
  14. We had rain icons in Manchester on Saturday two weeks ago which brought a decent surprise snow covering
  15. MANCHESTER EVENING NEWS ARE AT IT ALREADY: Heavy snow forecast as weather 'major event' heading towards UK - Manchester Evening News (Not letting me paste the url for some reason)
  16. Never assume just because a horse with a poor reputation is losing the race that it wont win
  17. JMA explains it perfectly. Very good outlook if you like warm temps and rain.
  18. JMA outlook for the rest of January looks mild and wet, windy & Atlantic driven. No attack from beast from the east on there its all attack from pest from the west
  19. Minus 20 uppers showing up. Most likely wont verify but extremes like this are known to disappear then reappear at a closer range.
  20. Shouldn't really pin too much hope on getting any cold. Isn't the current SSW a displaced event and not a split event? The SSW of 2019 was displaced that gave us record warmth in Feb following a moderate cold spell in early Feb, while 2018 was really a split event.
  21. So a mild January it is then. I pretty much knew the SSW would be a fail. Come June and just watch those tasty winter synoptics fall in place along with the usual "If only this was winter" comments. Bye winter, see you in 25 years
  22. Quite a snowfall in Cheshire today despite bbc weather app not forecasting it and was only showing cloud and rain symbols from 1500 onwards. BBC app which was once considered a reliable weather app has now become one of the worst weather apps, probably the worst one ive got.
