  1. The irony of it all is these youngsters are often the ones who bleat about the environment. Yet leave a ton of rubbish behind. I think they like to jump on the trendy bandwagon to seem goody goody rather than truly believing in the cause. Rant over haha.
  2. Not a bad day really weatherwise just spits of rain this evening. But on my doorstep is Daisy Nook country park which was trashed by druggies & other vermin attending a "rave" last night. Some lad even died of an overdose. I was among the many who did litter picking today.
  3. Certainly a warmer outlook but by no means settled. Certainly nothing like we saw last month with those cloud free skies day after day. Looks like some interesting cloudscapes coming up. Strong June sun with instability into the mix means there could be some decent convection.
  4. What a change with some much needed rain this morning. Looking cool/below average & unsettled in the near term. Possibly tentative signs of an improvement towards mid month on the temperature front?
  5. A bit of aggro on the mod thread between people about temps. But what people have left out of the equation or not thought about is the wind. It's looking pretty windy at times & from a colder source. It might be 12C on the thermometer but under any cloud & especially the wind it will feel more like the single digits. A shock to the system compared to what we've just had.
  6. At this rate desalination plants might have to be built to filter that good old Irish sea into drinking water joking of course. Just you watch as soon as restrictions on water usage come into play it'll rain for months.
  7. I worked for a year in California's Central valley in the early 00's and I didn't find their Mediterranean climate all that interesting. Summer temps consistently mid to high 30s, the odd rare day low 40s. And sunny every day. Not even a thunderstorm all Summer. The dry heat kept a lid on any instability. Winter was practically non existent. Although there was the odd bout of low pressure, wind & rain off the Pacific. Snow on the mountains but not at ground level. Overall it's very similar to interior Spain with not a drop of rain from the start of June to October. Everything goes yellow & dusty. Not a blade of green grass to be seen unless a sprinkler is frequently used. Which was the case in our apartment complex.
  8. He or she could be right or they could be wrong. I wouldn't make that prediction myself but at the same time won't slap someone down for it. But the ignore function is there, if it's still available, if people get wound up. It's looking warm & settled in the reliable though.
  9. You can't compare this Spring to 2012 because this year has been quite exceptional. But overall 2012 certainly wasn't as bad as you are making out. Admitedly April wasn't great but 2 out of 3 Spring months with good warmth & sunshine isn't to be sniffed at. Could be a lot worse. Like 2013.
  10. Are you sure? March 2012 was one of the warmest on record if not the warmest in some areas. I remember it being completely bonkers with people in shorts & t-shirts. May was also good especially the 2nd half being stunning. It was Spring 2013 that was poor - chilly throughout with virtually no warmth.
  11. A "very high" UV level of 8 on Saturday. Must be quite rare in our region? I know places like Penzance in Cornwall often get that high given how far south they are. But I've noticed that we've had higher than normal UV for most of this Spring even here in the NW. Maybe a lack of airplanes?
  12. Great day today & after tomorrow looks like perfect late Spring/Summer weather. Low 20s sunshine. Nice comfortable conditions.
  13. Yes a few large branches on the lane here as I drove down it. Made all the more bulky because the trees are in full leaf now. I got out & put them to the side of the road as I didn't want the sharp bits to scratch the car bodywork. As others have noted certainly unusual for late May to have these very gusty winds.
  14. A link below to reservoir levels in our region which are below normal. Of course if the Summer continues this dry trend we might see kind of restrictions like a hose pipe ban very soon. Then watch the heavens open. United Utilities - Reservoir levels WWW.UNITEDUTILITIES.COM Details about the levels of water in our main reservoirs - updated weekly
  15. Woke up to some dampness this morning but not enough to really quench the thirst of plants and grass. Could do with some meaningful rain now. Not a daily washout but some every week.
  16. Perhaps a classic "two fine days then a thunderstorm?"
  17. Even here west of the Pennines it's been extremely dry. The soil is like that too. Barely a wet day since early April. In some ways it's a good job we had that soaker of a Winter to fill up the reservoirs in this region, so we shouldn't be in trouble in that respect. We do seem to having these extremes of long dry periods alternating with long periods of wet.
  18. -3.5C here this morning. Looks like it will be a long while until we see a temperature as low as that. October onwards.
  19. -2.7C here this morning. A big chunk of nights last Winter was warmer. Although let's face it it really was a diabolical one for cold.
  20. Yes I'm wondering how much rain we've actually had. I don't have a rain gauge anymore but I think at the most it's only rained about 2 times since the start of April. Can't see any appreciable rain in the near future either.
  21. Yes good post. Pleasantly warm like that is good enough for me. The strength of the sun makes all the difference at this time of year. Each to their own as I don't want to begrudge heat fans some interest but high 20s upwards isn't something I get excited about. I don't find it nice to sit outside in. But in the shade though with an ice cold beverage is ok.
  22. A northerly of sorts shown on the models. 2 months too late comes to mind. All it will do at this time of year is give cold nights because the strong May sun will quickly out do any cold air aloft during the day. It's not November to March any more. Anyway I'm hoping to travel soon to see family in the south of France. My son moved to Mont de Marsan 3 years ago. Very nice place but a bit too hot for my liking in Summer hence why we often go in early April for 2 weeks but for obvious reasons no such luck this year.
  23. Been nice & sunny lately but that wind has certainly been a feature. Very gusty at times which has spoilt it a bit. Hopefully it'll ease off over the coming days.
  24. You can step outside as the virus isn't absolutely everywhere - nothing stopping people sitting in the garden if they have one. Boosting Vitamin D3 for your immunity can only be a good thing.
  25. Yes a cracking day. Got up to 16C. Can feel the strength of the sun beginning to increase now. UV of 4 tomorrow according to the Met Office although temps not as high but in the sun it should be nice enough. The weather not without interest over the next 5 days or so. Looks like a much more wintry feel is on the way.
