  1. That potential storm brings some very mild temperatures, possibly back into the teens across English Channel coasts and up towards South Wales along with severe gales, heavy rain and also the tides will be high too, so the flood risk returns again. It's starting to look a repeat of the dreadful first week of January all over again
  2. Thursday's storm in central & southern areas looks dreadful, as bad as the infamous February 2014 storms in Wales & SW England ?
  3. Well that's 1 cold week more than the last few winters anyway lol
  4. And the south coast of Wales & England not at all
  5. S&W Wales & SW England and ROI all looking snow free on that chart, looks like we'll see rain or possibly hail & thunder in some heavy showers
  6. We had some torrential hail showers on the coast in South Wales last month. The ground turned white with some decent accumulations and the kids went out on their sledges. Seems like hail is the new snow here lol
  7. Should that be US OR Europe? It seems every time the USA gets a big freeze, it fires the jet up and gives generally milder or less cold weather in Europe with snow restricted to high ground.
  8. Even so, here on the south coast of Wales there was no snow (however we did have some torrential hail showers which brought some accumulations) but now with the sea temperatures throughout the Bristol Channel around another 2C colder since 10th Dec (now between 7-9C which is not far off their seasonal coldest), maybe the coast might get more chance of a dusting of snow this time perhaps.
  9. Thanks for that amazing informative post. Very interesting
  10. I've got to say it's absolutely glorious on the South Wales coast again today, very mild in the sunshine, not a cloud about and hardly even a breath of wind on the seafront. Awesome weather, Perhaps it's the start of an early Spring?
  11. Yes indeed let's hope that Azores high can stay close by through June, July & August or is that going to be the time it'll be nowhere near us to allow another cool, wet Summer? Lol
  12. Deja vu from December in that most of Wales has some snow except us on the south coast, shame because the sea temperatures are another 2C colder since then, now around 7-8C and they're not going to drop much lower
  13. Sea temperature in the Bristol Channel is slightly lower than the last few January's Swansea is about 8C that's more like mid February. 7C is normally the coldest here and occurs late Feb or early March
  14. Similarly, my nan used to say that February & March were our snowy months here on the south coast of Wales as that's when the Bristol Channel sea temperatures are at their coldest and in February especially the strength of the sun is still fairly weak.
  15. The charts aren't showing it but there's currently snow grains blowing around in parts of South Wales (2C). I think we could get some transient snow later as rain moves in from the west. It's sometimes a very good set up for us on the coast when mild, moist Atlantic air bumps into all this cold air that's been sat over us for a few days. There's hopes later on!
  16. Have you replied to the wrong person, as it doesn't relate to what I said?
  17. But I'm sure I read somewhere that it's expected to be a 'front loaded' Winter for us, so if that's the case, time is ticking fast on our chance of snow again this season, mid January will be mid Winter in terms of 'weather seasons' anyway
  18. That deep low moves south and fills, very strong jet stream pushing out of the USA but dives to the south (at this stage anyway). Strong Azores & Scandinavian high. So very little snow this week but on the plus side, we do lose the frequent heavy rain/squally showers and severe gales we saw this week and instead, replace it with more relatively benign weather.
  19. That deep low south of Greenland is very slowly moving east by midnight Saturday.
  20. Snow over parts of northern Scotland Wednesday night, a ridge of high pressure pushing in on Thursday from the southwest. Another deep low south of Greenland
  21. Low pressure in charge by the early hours of Wednesday bringing widespread rain turning a bit colder again from the west
  22. Turning milder with some rain moving into Ireland by Tuesday morning. Drizzle in central & eastern UK, drier in the north & west.
  23. The GFS 12z, has a cut off low across Iberia, that's disappointing news for those going on holidays there in the next few days as it looks wet windy and cooler than recently too. Much more settled for the UK & Ireland at this stage but quite cold.
