I notice the changing daylight hours much more in Canada than I do here..probably because it always seems to be cloudy wet and dark here where as back in Canada sunshine and clear days and nights were the norm.
Surprised no one has commented on 1983 being number 3 on the list. Very much a forgotten hot summer dservedly up there with 1976 & 95 but never ever gets a mention when people talk about hot sunny weather with regards to summer
Indeed..July 1994 was particularly hot and thundery in London where i was living at the time..reached the mid 30s on a few occasions Summer of 1990 was fabulous..May was very sunny and very warm..August was hot and sunny in the south east at least and who can forget the wonderful June with Italia 90 as the perfect backdrop to those long June evenings!
This will be my last week of getting up in the dark at the moment it is twighlight when i leave the house..by the time i return to the UK and start work again the 2nd week of May it will be light plus the fact i will be starting an hour later than i do now
had a snowy day saturday...looks like some more on Weds with below freezing temps again..cold outbreraks getting fewer and less severe now as we head further into spring.
0r 85,86,87 & 88..four cool wet summers on the bounce..i think the summers of the late 70's were pretty poor as well from what i remember but was just a boy back then
ill think you will find the period 1989-2006 (not just 03-06) was punctured by numerous good summers months...89,90,91,94,95,97,99,03,05&06..all had at least one hot and sunny month..since then only last summer has produced a hot sunny month.
Exactly its easy to cherry pick a protion of the US and state it was the coldest winter since when ever..as a nation it was the coldest since 2009-10..some parts were indeed very cold and snowy some parts were very mild and dry but nobody wants to talk about that...being very mild doesnt make the news the same way as being very cold does ..simply because it causes no disruption and has little affect on everyones day to day life.
Its funny how you ignore the fact that i live in North America and no where was it reported that it was the coldest winter in 105 years..plus neither October,November and March are winter months either.
We had a brief flirtation with spring yesterday..nearly got above freezing with lots of sunshine..back to cold and snow this morning though...however this could be the end of winter..looks like warming up markedly over the next few days could be into the mid teens early next week...phew at last!
i am hoping for an average British summer..not too hot, not too cold..relatively dry and a little breezy any rain to fall over night or just some passing daytime showers...i am going to have to re-adjust to high humidities that often make the British weather seem hotter than it is.
im sure you are not old enough to remember those smoke filled clubs and pubs..but yes i hated having my clothes stink of smoke after a night out when i have never smoked myself. However if you were playing away it did mask the smell of cheap perfume..now that camouflage has gone
i would say so as compared to the vast majority of LRF posted on here..which were mostly the usual either it will start gettting cold before Xmas with lots of snow and cold through the rest of winter or it will be fairly average Dec and Jan with cold shots thrown in before..cold and snow kick in for Februaury etc etc...had he predicted a cold winter with snow etc and had been the only one to do so and it had come to pass he would be held up as a god on here with people hanging on his every word come next Autumn...but as he predicted a wet windy mild winter..the forecast has gone unoticed by many or ridiculed by a few and will be mostly forgotten by the majority come next Autumn.
Here it is called daylight saving time and it starts three weeks earlier than in the UK but also finishes later..clocks go back the first sunday in November
Its easy to be selective when trying to get a point across..you could quite easily throw Alaska into the mix (its is part of the USA)and you probably end up with an average winter temp wise across the USA as a whole..some areas have been very cold..some areas very mild..some areas very snowy and some areas very dry...possibly because it has been the most populated areas that have been hit by cold and snow that it has grabbed the headlines.
