  1. I remember in the early days of this forum many moons ago..the opposite synopsis was churned out that warm Autumns esp warm Octobers favoured cold winters..then 1978-79 was paraded as a classic example...since then there have been a number of warm Autumns and Octobers that have been followed by warm winters.
  2. the last 2 Octobers were cold and snowy in Calgary..in fact the last 2 Autumns were cold and very snowy.
  3. wasn't August the coolest since 1993? Anyway 10.8c please
  4. Summer hanging on here until the weekend..nice warm and sunny this morning with no wind.
  5. I don't know why schools close ...they never shut in Edmonton or Calgary and the amount of snow is worse every year than we would ever get here..its just barmy...kids still have to play outside it is only when it gets below -23c are they allowed in doors at lunchtime etc.
  6. I am turning the lights on by 7.30pm now on a cloudy day its more like 7pm
  7. Looks like the last real shot at summer in the south for the rest of the week and into Saturday...wouldn't be surprised if we see 28c in London on Friday.
  8. 77/78 was pretty snowy as well so 78/79 wasn't really out of the blue
  9. Looks like a cold snowy set up for Canada and the northern USA with a large positive heights around Alaska and low heights further east..would funnel cold air pretty much over the entire area east of the Rockies across to the east coast..would increase our chances of very mild winter to come.
  10. Looks like summer will return for the next few days at least esp in the south could hit 26-27c.
  11. I lived in Calgary for nearly 3 years..each year it was snowing to the end of April even into early May on occasion..of course it can be warm in April as well but just as likely to be cold and snowy...also more snow falls on average in April than it does in February.
  12. Certainly can I have witnessed the effect where a Chinook has not made far enough to reach the eastern part of the city..the west can be +5c and just 3 or 4 miles to the east it stays at -15c
  13. Happens quite a lot esp in spring and autumn...went from 28c on Oct 1st 2012 to 0c and snow on Oct 2nd 2012.
  14. Move to the eastern suburbs of San Francisco you will find what you seek.
  15. In Alberta Canada seasons are as follows Winter = Oct 25th - May 1st Spring = May 1st - June 22nd Summer = June 23rd - Sept 15th Autumn = Sept 15th - Oct 24th
  16. tsk...-50C is proper cold -5c is t-shirt and shorts weather.
  17. would have loved to have seen this...feel like im missing out a bit...Alberta seems to be the home of unusual weather...although snow in early September isn't that rare happens about once every 5 years or so.
  18. no need to go twitter just by the name I can pretty much guess what type of winter is being predicted
  19. i live in the same area as you but seem to have different weather...no sun at all yesterday..seems a little brighter today with the cloud beginning to break
  20. Same here..but quite warm and muggy 21c right now even though not a ray of sunshine all day.
