  1. Having just moved back from Calgary it does get 'hot' in summer just that its a dry heat as humidity is often very low...summer 2012 was a hot summer with temperatures often into the 28-34c range but was very doable as it didn't come with high humidity..some days you could get the its +30c but fells like 26c scenario which you would never ever see here.
  2. I have never heard of anyone in North America describing 26c as too cold?...I was in NYC one August when the temperature was 25c and this was described as perfection!
  3. And people in North America would be neither impressed by a British Heat wave or British cold spell
  4. Not for me Aug 1997 comes in as the 2nd hottest Aug after 1995 for me maybe it is forgotten as it is so close to 1995 that many people when remembering the months merge both months as 1995 and many of the vents that happened in 1997 get confused with 1995.
  5. saw a couple of reports of Hearne bay reaching 33c (91f) this afternoon
  6. all depends on humidity and wind-chill +32c is fine in a dry heat but very uncomfortable in high humidity -30c can be ok with no wind but can literally be painful with any kind of breeze Highest temperatures I have experienced are +40c in Dubai and +36c in Singapore with 100% humidity Lowest Temperature is -42c in Edmonton and -50c with wind-chill again in Edmonton.
  7. If you struggle with heat and sleeping etc just by an AC unit..no different to buying a heater in the winter..i could quite happily live in a hot climate as long as I had AC..They are not too expensive to buy or to run and tbh in this country you would not need to use one very much...I will miss mine in the upcoming hot spell but I will cope ok.
  8. on a nostalgia trip and the week I got married is missing...1st September 1996 is it available ?
  9. I have never seen it in a forecast over here eg tomorrow will be 28c but will feel like 35c
  10. when It comes to summer time I used to find the humidex or heat index invaluable in my day to day life when I lived in North America..so I wondered why it is not used widely here?..we use windchill esp in winter for how cold it actually feels but not the humidex for how warm it actually feels..so any reason why not? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Humidex
  11. remember this well the day before the start of Euro 96...driving up to London for the Eng v Switz game ran through a string of storms
  12. would be the same if you spoke to someone in Alberta and told them there are people who had a love of cold and snow..they would think you were bonkers!
  13. Just out of interested when was the last cooler than average month globally?
  14. Looking at those charts seems like the heat will peak on Thursday rather than fri/sat as shown on earlier charts?
  15. August 1991 was a belting month in Essex esp the last 2 weeks where it was pretty much 28-31c with lots of sunshine quite breezy too which tempered the heat beautifully.
  16. i will be taking up that mantle. Having spent the last 6 winters in Canada last thing I want is a cold snowy winter
  17. I spent the last 6 years living in North America and I can tell you yes it was a cold snowy winter in parts of the USA but that's not that unusual other parts were very much milder than normal (California had its mildest winter on record)and snowless but no one reports that. What I find strange is the last winter in North America attracted far more attention this side of the pond than it did over there.
  18. recent North American freeze wasn't anything special
  19. i don't remember summer 2004 being much cop either..was very cool and wet mid July particularly.
  20. Says on google earth that Ipswich is currently 29c as is Colchester
  21. 26c and wall to wall sunshine where I am quite a nice breeze not too humid either..yet
  22. Yep was living in SE London at the time...Hot and Sticky is how I remember July 1994 and quite thundery too..one of the hottest Julys on record in the London and SE area.
  23. Very much akin to July 2000..so what ever the cet for that month was ill take that please.
