  1. Heres the inside of my backdoor when it is -30c outside...and a view of Calgary when its -30c from my site office.
  2. Looks like it will finally warm up again after two weeks of cold cold weather...have been stuck with highs of -20c and lows of -30c for a while but above 0c temps could be back on Wednesday.
  3. Don't know about getting colder in Alberta as it has been very cold here for last week or so now so won't get any colder than we have right now... Highs between -20c to -25c and lows into the -30c
  4. You know what i would like to spend one year in Iceland and also one year in Cyprus
  5. Sounds much the same as Alberta..cold snowy winters sunny dry warm summers with plenty of storms from May to August.
  6. I think you cant go wrong with my home county of Essex..warmer drier summers and colder drier winters..also ideally located to tap into those cold snowy easterlies when they decide to make an appearance.
  7. Have to be a lot stronger at 4-10mph is just a light breeze
  8. ummm 10 words or less not 10 paragraphs or less?
  9. they have had no snow in California..i think they would take anything that falls from the sky right now (airplanes excluded)
  10. Apart from March 2013..how many snowy marches have there been in the last 25 years??..last one i can remember was March 1995..there have been some very mild March months in recent years.
  11. had a 3-4 inches of snow yesterday to top back up the lying snow..which was getting a bit patchy after the 3 week run of almost double digit days.
  12. Had snow falling on numerous occasions had two particularly large snow events in December..snow has been lying since the end of October
  13. Is it though?..it wasn't there during the winter 0f 2010-11which was a very La Nina winter which was very cold and snowy..the winter of 2011-12 was a similar La Nina winter set up but was wholly different than the year before even though all winter forecasts issued for Western Canada during the Autumn expected that winter to be even colder than the winter before...however it turn into the 2nd mildest winter on record and snow-less..the last two winters including this one have been fairly neutral in terms of Nina conditions..yet we have a similar pattern to the last 2 winters again..with that huge ridge not really going anywhere too much...with some spells of remarkable warmth that have appeared esp during the months of January and February..so there must be something else going on here?
  14. CET temps are for 24 hour periods day and night..so if the average is 5c for the month of Jan that will be the mean temp so it could average 7c by day and 3c by night would give you a mean temp of 5c...or could be 10c by day and 0c by night so would give the same result.
  15. i get up at 5.25am every morning i wont see the sunrise until mid May...but definitely noticing the lengthening daylight now in the evening
  16. Living where i live that huge pacific ridge has been pretty much parked there since the summer of 2011 to varying degrees so that's nearly 3 years now.
  17. another double digit day here today..this mild spell just goes on and on and on
  18. Great clearing the cache did the trick...thanks
  19. Can't get into the main forum page on my laptop comes up with an error and says sorry we couldn't find that click here to return to community pAge whch comes back to the error page again... Can access fine on my iPhone which is how I am posting this any ideas?
  20. i think this is the 3rd January in a row that has been remarkably mild....one thing however is the amount of thick and rutted ice on the roads...its like off roading..even though the temps have been well above freezing during the day the ice is so thick only the top surface get any real melting and you end up with a very rutted surface as it refreezes at night..plus the fact there is no snow to cover the ice as that has melted..so side roads are just terrible to negotiate.
  21. Have not had a below freezing day since 7th January so that's 2 weeks now ....average daytime high where i live is -4/5c at this time of the year.
  22. Funnily enough the 18Z GFS run is very similar to the 06z and 12z runs rite out to 384hrs in this part of the world
  23. Difference is the upstream pattern is modeled to change which it wasn't before..things therefore look much more favourable to a cold outbreak than they did a week ago..then i would have said there was a zero % chance of cold coming to the UK now i would say its 50/50
