  1. Seems that all the cold air and snow is flooding out on the Asian side of the Arctic...on this side in N.America the cold remains locked in across the Arctic in its entirety..its has remained warm across this continent with no snow or cold to be found anywhere apart from the coastal fringes around the Arctic sea...looks to remain that way for another 2 weeks or so.
  2. Probably because it was a flash in the pan so to speak...generally October has been mild/warm over the vast majority of the USA and Canada..there are no signs of any cold weather even in my neck of the woods in the next 2 weeks..this time last year winter had already started here and Oct 2012 turned out to be very cold and snowy..this year is lovely warm sunny days and cool nights just how Autumn should be.
  3. Just had a quick shifty at this thread..and find it more than comical esp when comparing the UK to Canada...having lived the vast majority of my life in the UK and the last 5 years in Canada..i can tell you the UK would cope fine..Canadians dont do anything different except just go about their daily lives because it is the norm...my lifestyle in a Canadian winter is exactly the same as it was in a UK winter. After the first dump of snow chaos enuses here just like the UK for a few hours or a day..then people remember its winter and just revert their mind set for the next 4-6 months no big deal.
  4. thje top charts seem to say DJF 2015 so that would be next winter not this one?
  5. Brown Willy is the highest point in Cornwall up on Bodmin moor
  6. i would not class Iceland or Tasmania as similar to the UK...for example Iceland does not or has not suffered from prolonged hot sunny weather and drought and neither has Tasmania suffered prolonged spells of cold and snow. I would wager that Vancouver summer weather is a lot more predictable than the UK summer weather...summers there tend to be much drier sunnier and warmer on average than the UK
  7. Princetown is in Devon so dont count...you can always get on top of that brown willy if you want to see some of the white stuff...narf narf
  8. Have not seen any geese flying south for the winter yet..which is kind of late...last time they were this late was 2011 and was followed by a very mild winter...in 2010 they left mid September and was followed by a cold snowy winter.
  9. some serious deep cold forecast for siberia etc for the time of year
  10. Also some of these numbers for countries may be incorrect depending on the dates...because borders have change over the last century numerous times..for example Poland and Germany record high are eaxactly the same..it could be that this value is for the same place that once was part of Germany and now is in Poland.
  11. it is often like your first image...the summers of 2007-2012 are a testimant to that..as are the the often cold spells in the last few winters..so i would wager there has been a lot more of image number 1 in the last 6 years..where as in the period 1988-2006 there were a lot more of image number 3.
  12. Snow flurries in the forecast for Calgary overnight and into tomorrow morning.
  13. this would result in a very cold winter across Canada and the United States
  14. i saw plenty of snow prior to that date when i lived in Chelmsford...early November 1985 i think? and November 1988 was another.
  15. Depends what your preference....if like CS says you like gales and rain this is a fantastic chart..if you like cold and snow its a bit of a stinker
  16. those were the days when they didn't have itemised phone bills
  17. Lol when i was a kid i used to sneak out into the hallway and phone the latest forecast..i think the number was 8091 for a recording and was updated 3 times daily..now i couldn't give a monkeys because it snows every winter guaranteed where i live..so the anticipation during winter and the thirst for the latest forecasts have been crushed.
  18. Don't remember the early 2000s being cold and snowy though..in fact a lot of negative years during the early to mid 80s which had relatively cold winters...maybe lots of snow in Siberia and very little snow elsewhere like N.America is a good thing early doors?
  19. looks like it will go on today..temps havn't got much above 6c with a low around 0C and is cloudy and windy to boot...temp in my house when i left for work this morning was 12c so im guessing it will be around 10c when i get home...so a quick one hour blast should do the job.
  20. hey cc....can see the snow on the mountains that is still there from last week..i think summer has packed up and left for good...will be cold and grey the next few days here in Calgary wont make double figures as highs..still hopeful of an Indian summer this year as we head into October
  21. i wonder how many people would be moaning about these charts today and rightly calling for an early spring...and how many would have been saying there's still 4-6 weeks of winter left and there was still plenty to play for?
  22. i dont need any webcams i can see the Rockies through my front room window.
