  3. Yes had a dusting of snow here..which wasnt forecast esp as it had been 15c the day before...bad news is spring looks to be put on hold temporarily this weekend with highs of -10c and some snow in the forecast.
  4. Surely that is only true for individual civilisations...has there ever been a total global collapse of all civilisation?..in the past Empires have risen and fallen to the extent there are many in existence at one time..whilst one would fall another would rise..but never have they all fallen at the same time
  5. Clocks when forward this weekend here..was still nice and sunny at 7.15pm...wasnt dark before 8pm.
  6. i have never put winter tyres on my car... all season tyres do just fine and i live in Calgary.
  7. It does not state where those stations are located? remember the USA is a huge country not all of the USA has had a cold winter..the midwest has been cold the east rather cold and the west has been mild..however it has definetly been a snowy winter from the midwest eastwards.
  8. Has been a brutally cold start to spring here..woke up to -38c on Saturday morning..never got above -30c all day..just filing my car up with petrol was a pinful process on my hands..remaining cold for the rest of the week might get above -20c today if i am lucky..spring seems a long way away....brrrrr
  9. March seems to deliver some brutal cold here..the coldest temperature i have recorded for Edmonton and Calgary both occured on 1st March...-42c in Edmonton 1st March 2011 and -38c here in Calgary this Sat 1st March 2014.
  10. ummm probably 1988-89..in fact the three winters 87-88,88-89,89-90 were all woeful...the winters from 97 onwards to 08 were all relatively mild and wet (apart from 05-06) 94-95 was a shocker too wet and mild....obviously i have not been in then UK for this winter but sounds like it would have not been enjoyable...still just to rub salt into the wounds..its -30c here in Calgary right now.
  11. Events that stick out... UK Summer of 76 as a boy seemed to last forever Great South West blizzard Feb 78 most snow i have seen anywhere in the world! Winter 78-9 if you liked snow..all your birthdays and Xmases rolled into one. July 1983 (warmest month on record until July 2006) Summer 85,86,87...cold and wet Feb 86 persistent cold Winters 88-90 all very mild and snowless Summer of 90 summer of love, warmth and world cup mania Feb 91 cold and snowy first 2-3 weeks July 94 hot and stormy Summer of 95 hot and dry Autumn 2000 Wet wet wet June 2005 perfect summer month June/July 2007 horrendously wet Canada May 2010 - Blizzards and sub zero max's mid month Summer 2010 - Exceptionally stormy had t-storms every day for 6 weeks June and July March 2011 - Coldest March in Alberta for 90 years mean of -11c for the month Winter 2011/12 second mildest on record and near snowless July 2012 hot and sunny June 2013 Great Calgary flood
  12. July 2006 was the first Hot month that i did not enjoy...up to that point i always looked for dry hot sunny weather in summer..since then my preference has changed to sunny and average to warm..in fact i would now take sunny and cool over sunny and hot during the summer.
  13. dont forget it also snowed in May 79..just to rub salt into the wounds
  14. Only trouble with the clocks going forward earlier is your right back into the dark mornings again for a few weeks
  15. If you look at the stats cold March tends to follow on from and average to cold February.
  16. Interesting stat regarding 1989/90 winter rainfall..i dont remember this winter being wet..in fact i remember being realtively dry and mild and windy...the reason for this i remember playing on football pitches that were bone dry during February and March and wearing moulded studs which i only ever wore at the start and very end of the football season...May 1990 was a glorious very sunny warm month possibly the best May i can remember!
  17. Really?..December was very snowy here...January had a couple of reasonable falls...i have more snow on the ground and piled up around my drive etc than i have since 2010-11 even after the exceptional mild spell we had during January..mind you it has been dry for the last 4 weeks now.
  18. the guy who lives on the pennines and types in capital letters his forecast was for a stormy mild wet winter so he was bang on..dont remember his name though?
  19. Yep certainly been cold and snowy in the eastern half of North America in contrast the western half has been mild dry and relatively snow free.
  20. Even though i was living in SE London at the time i dont really remember Feb 1994 as being particularly special..i think i had a couple of light snowfalls mid month and that was about it..in terms of winter easterlies i have experienced it would be well down the list.
