  1. Probably becuase people will hang their hat on anything that is percieved to be a pre-cursor to cold and snow...we have had SSTs, SSW, La Nina, Siberian Snow Index, OPI , Polar Vortex, NAO, AO , Solar Activity and the list goes on .Each year there seens to be something new that correlates to cold winters some how or some where even if the link is very tenious...lets face it it diesnt get too cold too often in this country and thats a fact and that wont ever change..unless there is a polar shift sometime soon.
  2. ill go for 0...been there done that and got the t-shirt ...i have seen more snow than you can shake a stick at....i really dont understand what the fascination is???
  3. Funnily enough I could quite happily live in Yellowknife if it wasn't for the mosquitoes in the summer time...that would be more of a killer than the cold.
  4. the novelty soon wears off believe me..i find it most amusing when people moan and moan about the lack of snow like its the end of the world..still its all good fun to come here and see all the wrist slitting than goes on..keep it up!
  5. About to turn the corner again in the next few days..sunsets are now at their earliest and will start to reverse very shortly although sunrise continue to get later for another cpl weeks or so..this time next month we will start to really notice the lengthening days again
  6. Still not put the heating on..although I did succumb to wearing a cardigan over my usual t-shirt indoor wear recently. be interested to see my energy bill as against my summer use.
  7. If homosexuality is genetic how does it work where you have identical twins where one is straight and the other is homosexual as their genetic make up is exactly the same..or is there a homosexual gene that can be turned on at some point in the womb etc?
  8. A repeat of winter 1991-92 would be just the ticket for me please and thank you
  9. Still no where near putting on the heating in fact went back to my summer duvet over the weekend as it was too warm at night..may revert to my winter one again soon but heating is a long way off yet.
  10. Much like the huge cold bias seen in this forum these days..met office just predicts the weather it can see unlike here where people just predict the weather they would like to see and woe be tide anyone who sees anything different.
  11. when you have lived in Canada and experienced -40c and below most winters it seriously just doesn't get cold enough here
  12. don't expect it to get cold enough this winter to turn on the heating.
  13. If this winter is cold and snowy im going to resign and go back to Canada..im mean what is the point?
  14. spring is always been March April May you cant move months around to suit stats or because you decide that's the way it should be...in regards to March there is no case to answer m'lud case dismissed
  15. I know I have been out of the country for 6 years but when did March become a winter month?
  16. All very sad...what's the matter with people???
  17. yep Moscow had its first snowfall on 2nd October that year and was well below freezing by the end of the 1st week in November...however I think the winter 1941-2 was their equivalent of our 1962-3 was the coldest winter in 250 years or something like that.
  18. ill have the mean number of all the other guesses we have had by the end of the month please and thank you.
  19. Id like the warmest driest December on record please...now where did I put those December 1974 charts?
  20. its a balmy 18c here feels more like mid July than the 1st of October
  21. Farmers Almanac is rarely right in my experience and North American winter forecast accuracy seems to be no better than ours..on occasions both the almanac and others have been spectacularly wrong..last winter didn't unfold as predicted...2011-12 was forecast to be brutally cold esp across western Canada and the mid west but turned out to be one of the mildest on record.
  22. I remember in the early days of this forum many moons ago..the opposite synopsis was churned out that warm Autumns esp warm Octobers favoured cold winters..then 1978-79 was paraded as a classic example...since then there have been a number of warm Autumns and Octobers that have been followed by warm winters.
  23. the last 2 Octobers were cold and snowy in Calgary..in fact the last 2 Autumns were cold and very snowy.
  24. wasn't August the coolest since 1993? Anyway 10.8c please
