  1. I don't mind having a 3-4 day heat wave with big storms rolling through..something akin to the event in July 1968...however a prolonged spell of hot and sultry conditions would be a pain in the backside..a few cool days to follow the heat would be ideal to clear the heat out of my apartment otherwise indoor temperatures keep on rising day after day and it becomes a sauna...oh air con how I miss thee!
  2. Exactly you constantly moan about the weather IYB in every thread across this forum as though that's what it is like everywhere...so I thought I would tell everyone IMBY its been far from crap
  3. im not sure what everyone is moaning about..IMBY its been a very pleasant June indeed...no rain.. a smattering of 25C+ days intermingled with fresher 20-22c days and comfortable nights for sleeping with decent amounts of sunshine to boot...I would be more than happy for the current set up to continue for the rest of the summer.
  4. What you have described is almost a typical year in Calgary.
  5. I think there will be a peppering of 30c days across late July and August
  6. Im not going to pick a year Jan - Dec but rather Apr - Apr. so my year would be if I could re-live it would be April 2010 - April 2011 in Edmonton Canada..had everything (including the kitchen sink) you could ever wish for..lots of cold..copious amounts of snow..early autumn warmth..massive summer storms..huge damaging hail..even the odd tornado thrown in for good measure.
  7. Seems Higher temps have only occurred in the last 30-40 years so buildings and over population wouldn't be the main factor..the increased amount of traffic and the fact we have switched to a 24 hour society may be the cause.
  8. 2006 was an el nino summer..hottest July on record.
  9. I would agree if it was forecast to be a wash out with lots of rain or showers and below 20c it would indeed be poor..but with lots of dry bright weather in the offing I call that pretty decent.
  10. do you know how you work averages?..doesn't mean every day should be 21.2c means some days can be a lot hotter say 30c or a lot cooler say 15c so its pretty normal weather and not poor or disgusting etc.
  11. I wasn't talking about the weather at your house I was quoting somebody else who said 21c was poor for the time of year
  12. why is it poor?..its not raining or dull..in fact its been a beautiful sunny weekend..perfect summer weather..this outlook is good to. Why does have to be hot to be good?
  13. not sure how? im out on site in south east London and is only 21c here.
  14. July 89 was generally a hot month so no doubt a lot of very warm air would have been in the vicinity at the time..so im sure mid 20s would have been widespread across the country at this time so 27c in Bournemouth wouldn't be unusual during this month.
  15. still haven't turned on my heating since I returned last May 2014..not even sure that it works.
  16. Looks like the ideal summer scenario to me..could be the best 2 weeks of the summer if it comes to pass?
  17. British summers are crap for all the wrong reasons..rarely do we get ideal summer conditions..which to me is clear blue sunny skies 23-25c low humidity and a light breeze.
  18. Just looking at the El Nino records for summers in the last 30 years..im going to stick my neck out and say there will be one hot summer month..based on the fact that 1991 had a hot August...1994 had a hot July...1997 had a hot August.. and 2006 had a hot July..so maybe a hot August for 2015?
  19. Sounds like a less continental type of weather to Calgary...where it rarely gets frontal rain..maybe 3/4 times a year..the rest is made up of storms in the summer...it rarely rains if at all outside of the May to August period thereafter its is predominately dry with any precipitation being snow..big difference is that Calgary is remarkably sunny all year round.
  20. Do they though?..i never here anybody outside of this forum ever mention the weather stories on the front cover of the express or any other newspapers..im not sure many people read the papers that much anymore?
  21. That's the trouble with this forum these days..its has become so skewed that unless there is endless cold and snow in winter or heat and storms in summer then everything else is just horrible disgusting weather. In fact I would go so far to say that spring and autumn no longer no exist too many on here winter seems to last from October to April and summer from May to September.
  22. ill tell you what when you have to shovel snow on a regular basis...heavy snow fall becomes are serious pain in the backside and something you don't look forward too.. its seriously hard work esp when its windy...not only do you suffer with the wind-chill but the damn snow blows back over areas you have cleared and it takes twice as long
  23. Reminds of one of my best friends Gran from my college days..she refused to sell her farm to Tesco. When she died she left the farm to him and his brother..who then sold it to Tesco for £10million or thereabouts...he is doing very nicely in his villa in the south of France ta very much.
  24. Today my preference for certain weather types are different to say 10 years ago. Pre 2006 I was a lover of hot summers and cold snowy winters. The July of 2006 killed my liking for hot weather as for the first time in my life I notice how oppressive and uncomfortable it was and I was relieved and happy with the cool cloudy August that followed. Similarly living in the cold of Canada for 6 winters has killed my love for cold and snow..mainly snow really I don't mind the cold so much. Thunderstorms were something of interest too but again the storms in the UK bear no resemblances to the huge storms of the Canadian prairies. So has anyone else preference for weather types changed over time?
