  1. winter is extremely short in the UK in fact for me it hasn't started..kinda looking forward to spring though
  2. wonder if the Greenland Express headline is record breaking warmth with temps higher than the UK shocker?
  3. who ks the stupid woman who did the itv weather after the news...apparently it will be pershing cold tonight with a low of -2c and tomorrow will be extremely cold with a high of +6c ..i thought i was living in Brazil for a minute..not the UK in the middle of winter.
  4. I think it was more the mid 70s were poor im too young to remember the very early 70s but I think 70 & 71 did ok and maybe 72..probably 73-76 were snowless..became more snowy again form 1977 onwards
  5. Did it?..1990s apart from 1991 was pretty poor for snow esp the last 5/6 years of the decade..no where near as a good as the 1980s or 70s or 60s for example.
  6. when i was living in Edmonton the winter 2010/11 the city received over 8ft of snow twas the snowiest winter for 40 years. The snow piles on the side of my driveway were close to 10 feet high by the end of March.
  7. i got to bed early if its snowing at night if it snows during the day it barely registers anymore these days
  8. i will take a mild March a warm April and an average May ... no cold or snow sunny and on the dry side please and thank you.
  9. IMHO the model thread in winter is an absolute shambles!..of course I will got lots of hate for saying it ..but I think by the fact it is a no go area for a lot of members says it all really
  10. nope never rains in Calgary just over the moubtains from Vancouver where it is wetter in winter than here
  11. Likewise I cant understand how people can get excited about snow and cold..as for normal winters stats are made up of winters where there are more than say 15 days of snow and those where there is none....therefore im guessing the figures are skewed so im guessing when it is not snowy or snow free your best bet is between 2-3 days of snow lying.
  12. im not talking about post of popularity im talking about posters who post well reasoned thoughts and chart analysis daily all year round..when I joined this forum 10 years ago the MOD thread was mostly that...now it has become a no go area in winter just like the inmates taking over the asylum for 3/4 months then they disappear again.
  13. There should be a MOD for the experienced and reasoned posters who post in the thread all year round...only those with good rep and high number of post can post it but all can read..and a separate MOD thread for those learning and looking to gain promotion to the above..all the people who ruin the MOD in winter can sit in there and snipe and hunt for cold all they like...the rest of us can go read the real MOD thread without scrolling through pages of drivel to find out what is really going on...I don't even read the MOD thread in winter and haven't for a few years now.
  14. I noticed the mornings are on the turn..the birds were singing and morning was breaking when I was walking to the tube station at 6.30am today.
  15. in Alberta winter starts on 1st October and finishes on 1st May its as simple as that.. in the UK it can start anytime from the end of Nov until some where in mid March and last about a week or 2 at best.
  16. not very early in winter.. in 2 weeks it will be half way through and the coldest pont of the NH winter will be upon us then the warming trend begins.
  17. All of the coldest winters have both at different times and premier league winters have all 3..that is too say at some point a Greenland high...a Scandinavian high and a link up of both...look at 1947 as a classic example where all 3 scenarios happened..1963 and 1979 had Greenland highs and Scandinavian highs at differing times that produced cold and snow.
  18. for cold and snow Edmonton Xmas 2010... 2 feet of snow lying and a maximum of -15c
  19. looking into my crystal ball and looking at patterns across western Canada im going for a very cold and potentially snowy spell esp in the east somewhere more likely from about the 8-10th onwards....1.3c
  20. everything is always awful and shockingly distgusting in your world no matter what season it is...there is a moaning thread you know elsewhere?
  21. I was at Junior school in Exeter 78-81..was there for the great blizzard of Feb 1978 winter 78-79 and December 1981..huge amounts of snow in all those years esp Feb 1978 where drifts were up to the roofs and my dad's car was completely buried on the drive...in fact only the huge snowfall of Jan 7-8 2011 when i was living in Edmonton Canada was comparable to the Blizzard of Feb 1978..thats how bad it was...probably a one in a hundred year event I would guess.
