  1. Very true and in some cases are non existent..spring and fall are about 4-6 weeks at best on the Canadian prairies..in 2012 Autumn never arrived we went straight from summer into winter..1st October +28c sunny..2nd October 0c and snowing..from there October never recovered and it turned into a cold snowy month and autumn never made an appearance.
  2. That's the beauty of the North American Prairies..spring and autumn can and does produce some really dramatic changes in the weather literally in front of your eyes,,its a weather watchers dream!
  3. I still have my old site diaries from December 2001 and January 2002...looking through them it was a chilly December but nothing special and relatively dry up until the Xmas period..then it was alternating cold and mild in fact Xmas eve rainy and 10c..which ran into xmas morning..between then and new year was relatively cold but no snow at all..then it just goes down hill as we enter January and the rest is history as they say.
  4. was all dross apart from the 2 weeks around Xmas .. January and Feb were wet and mild.
  5. The North American temperature is pretty much the standard deviation for an el nino set up ...cooler and wetter southern half Warmer and drier Northern half..the signal for Europe is interesting as it potrays a high pressure signal for the Greenland Iceland area swinging the jet south through Europe and then north through Russia hence the red colour in that area.
  6. might have to swap my 3.5 tog summer duvet to my Autumn 7.5 tog..whether I then upgrade to my winter 13.5 tog and when is not know yet.
  7. 2001 ended on a warm note and was the warmest October on record..following winter was dross also.
  8. Had an interesting one in Jasper October 2010..went to a meeting at 10am it was 16c a bit dull and drizzly..when I came out at 1pm it was snowing and -2c
  9. 80% for a mild winter..simply because that's the UK default for winter 8 times out of 10 it will be mild..with the strong el nino going on I was going to plump for 90%..however it did not produce the one hot summer month I expected.
  10. Even made one of the sports column today..words to the effect you can tell Autumn is here as the nights are drawing in champions league is back and the Express is warning of the coldest winter ever!
  11. had this when I flew back to the UK for xmas in 2012..it was -33c when I left Calgary airport and +13c on landing at Gatwick
  12. im sure many posters on here would be hanging out the banners and dining out on it for years if we had the coldest winter on record..or would it really just be irrelevant or not matter not really?
  13. didn't we do this before somewhere?...anyway -42c when I lived in Edmonton Canada and +40c in Dubai.
  14. From my experience of living in Canada its only 'light' at night when it is actually snowing...if its not snowing even with snow on the ground its still as dark as a night with no snow
  15. I had a near perfect summer...temps mainly 21c-25c with well over 20 days above 25c.. low humidity and very dry apart from the last week..its the low humidity that really got the thumbs up for me with just one uncomfortable day which was July 1st when it got to 36c...even when it got to 31c the other weekend there was a bit of a breeze to temper the heat nicely.
  16. I don't live in a house but an apartment..fortunately I have nice old couple who live below me whom I sure do like it nice and toasty I benefit from their generosity.
  17. still haven't turned on my heating since moving back to the UK I expect another winter without the need. Actually not even sure the heating works as I have never used it.
  18. Overall a decent summer here was spoilt by the poor last week of August..the only poor week of the entire summer and most of spring come to that.
  19. I remember June 2005 being a lovely month one of the best June I can think of but its often forgotten...I don't really remember much else about July or August 2005..what I did notice in the vid was the fact that the BBC weather graphics are they really over 10 years old now? only seems like yesterday they changed.
