  1. I'm very much liking that, as quite a few cold winters have been preceded by a blocked Novembers...The only drawback being - of course - that quite few haven't!
  2. A tad corny I know...But, with all that's happening model-wise, let's hope that we're not about to witness a re-run of General Cluster's last stand?
  3. At this stage Dami, and with 'some' signals suggesting a front-loaded (when was the last time we heard that?) winter, I'd suggest that, 'who knows?' would be the likeliest answer... For some reason SB (proper frontal snow, in October being rarer than hens' teeth) I'd guess that any such activity will be confined to high ground. I hope I'm wrong!
  4. I think it might be a fundamental part of the human psyche, QS: in the natural world, in which we (and our languages) evolved, most things are in limited supply and over-indulgence today does imply a shortage tomorrow...? Why else would our intuition/gut instinct tell us that, after throwing four straight sixes, our chance of throwing a fifth is somehow reduced - when we all know that it isn't? I don't know about you, but I always have an internal battle going on: my gut says one thing (we can use-up cold synoptics too quickly) my head says another (oh no we can't)...
  5. It's the continued lack of any raging zonality that I find particularly interesting, SS, and not so much whether any particular day turns out mild or cold: do I see another 'rut' forming? Should the PFJ carry on with its meanderings into winter, anything could happen...From one extreme to the other?
  6. Saturday and Sunday (up here) look like being rather showery with temps of, say, 8-9C...Has all the hallmarks of a pretty bog-standard late Autumn northerly, to me. I must be missing something...?
  7. It's good that there is still this thread available. It's good to get an idea what the weather's actually likely to do, rather than endure a non-stop reinforcement therapy-session for snow-starved coldies...Too much time spent in an echo chamber can be detrimental to one's long-term sanity, sanity, sanity.
  8. Lovely and sunny, 11C...Whatever happens, I think we might be in for some pretty good sunshine totals. Again!
  9. That's hardly fair, Fred...I'm sure I've both seen and heard the Minister for Silly Fonts claim that the globe is cooling?
  10. Things are looking so good, for next weekend, that a wee drop of hail or sleet (mixed in with the driving rain) might be on the menu...
  11. One thing's for certain - Trawscoed won't be anywhere near 23C, this Halloween!
  12. Somewhere in the region of 60cm, up in the Highlands.
  13. Could be good. Short but severe winters offset by long hot summers sounds fine to me...
  14. I couldn't agree more PS...In this part of the world, the best we'll from that'd be about 8C with some cold rain. Or, should we be really lucky, some driving drizzle. Lovely!
  15. Thundery and possibly wintry showers around all but southern coasts?
  16. Do the two have to be mutually exclusive, though? I love cold and snowy weather - but if it ain't there it ain't there...
  17. Aye...Compared to the winters of the 1960s and '80s, the last one was a damp squib.
  18. With a record as 'scintillating' as that, they'll ought be heroes among the coldies?
  19. WWS. No-one is, in a literal sense, suggesting that we are currently missing a season; it's an idiom, a turn of phrase, that's all. I can still recall the 'Spring' of 1975: cold and grotty throughout March, April and May, with snow falling widely on June 2nd...The fact that a mere four days later, one of the Twentieth Century's best ever summers was underway, gave many of us good cause to remark about the apparent lack of a Spring...? IMO, seasons are a movable feast and are not tied to certain dates; the date-obsession is just another way in which us humans like to think we're really in control...We're not in control. Not in control at all!
  20. Somewhere in amongst the psychedelia is a forecast. Maybe? http://www.weatheraction.com/
