I can't explain it for your area but look at my signature, there's nothing diminishing in Essex. Sorry!
Same here. Not that there actually is anything to diminish.

F.L.O.P.
Not exactly 'Plumageddon'!

Well, the wording on BBC forecast this morning said widespread thunderstorm for SW England I'm sure. Only 2.8 mm of rain fallen here which I wouldn't call a lot.
Come on, William: I haven't even seen a convective cloud yet!
-
It's around 18 here. The onshore breeze does keep down grass-pollen though.

Oh William, come on you should know better than to be so optimistic about storms by now! We know all to painfully how even when the charts and conditions look perfect,we quite often get nowt
Aye, Lauren: when I Iived in Tunbridge Wells (1969-70), we had super thunderstorms and blizzards. Times change...

Not many people seem to mention Devon when it's actually in the firing line for some quite big thunderstorms through Thursday Night and Friday, I'm not saying I'll definitely get one but I'll be incredibly unlucky if I don't looking at the charts.
That could be, and I mean could be, that not too many people live in Devon, Will. But I have been there, and it really is a beautiful county...Where else can you drive across Dartmoor (Bodmin ) from north-to-south to find wonderful weather and beaches, depending upon the wind direction?

The highest risk is pretty much where I thought it would be. A triangle with the corners being Birmingham, Bristol and west London. The south east will probably escape home grown convection due to the wind direction which will likely lead to a mostly sunny day and looking in awe out west. That said anywhere from the north midlands south is at risk of stuff pushing up from France Friday night.
12z suite coming out now. We really need the heat to push further north here to get more people in the game. Fingers crossed.
Indeed CS. But, sometimes, things just don't work-out like that. And do I know why? Nyet!

The problem with the models is, I think, this: they go out for so far ahead that we all get over-excited or over-depressed about what they happen to indicate, depending upon our respective preferences...How many times has T+384 - or whatever -verified: 0?

A key thing to be mindful of is storms can fire in 15-20 minutes, going from Cu puff to fully electrified and torrential storm.
Well they certainly did, in SE London, in April 2011 (it might have been 10, but I don't think so?). At 14:30 there was nothing more than cumulus humilis; less than one-hour later all hell had broken loose!

Just goes to show - the storms started this morning at about 0500 (nice flickering wake up), then a brief but intense over head storm in my valley with a strike on one of the hill and lots more lightning on the way into work! The rain was very intense, and kept at the same intensity after the electrical activity stopped, and it has only just finished here in Poitiers.
Call me Mr Tibbs!

In the last hour, the clouds have all but vanished...Warmer upper mehopes!

I think it also says that there'll be 'West winds' in the south on Thursday and Friday?

Sad to hear about Chris Mantle, I never had the pleasure of meeting him in person but from what Ali posted he was as friendly and sincere in person as he was on the forum, a man of decency and principle......condolences to his family and loved ones
I never met him either, aj; but he was always very pleasant and personable...I'll never forget our talking about a thunderstorm midway between Olney and Kempston...

It is with the deepest regret that I have to inform you our dear friend and weather buddy Chris Mantle lost his short battle with cancer and passed away last night. Chris was a big part of our community on the SE & EA thread, for those of us that had the pleasure of meeting him in person at our regional get together events know he was a true gentleman, although some of us have moved on from Netweather I thought I would share the sad news as I'm sure there are still many here who will remember him fondly - RIP Chris x
Indeed, a very sad day. May he rest in peace. Thanks for letting us know, AM.

It just needs to veer a bit. We don't want it all landing on Newton Poppleford do we?
