  1. Apologies if this is worded a little poorly, I am terrible at explaining. To me, there does seem to be particular dates where the weather is more often than not settled or unsettled. For example, 30th of September is often an unsettled day even during the most anticyclonic of Septembers or autumns, with the last notably settled one being 2015. 11th of September on the other hand more often than not is settled on the most part with the last notably unsettled one occuring in 2017. 26th of November (I remember this one in particular seeing as it's my birthday) these days usually has average daytime temps and is always dull, even during the sunniest of Novembers. Are there any dates that spring to mind for my fellow weather enthusiasts?
  2. I was finishing year 10 that 'summer'. Hard to believe that was 16 years ago.
  3. Predicting what the weather will do in 3 days time is tricky, let alone 3 weeks.
  4. Pity we can't swap climates. I would love to experience proper summers and winters. On the other hand, I imagine it must get boring after a while though. One of the reasons why snow is so special to some of us over here is because it's so hard to come by.
  5. In regards to the summer: June - great July - terrible August - mediocre
  6. Happy birthday. Yes, we haven't had an unsettled 11th of September (barring Scotland maybe) for a good few years now, 2017 I believe was the last one. Converely, it has been some time since we last had a settled 30th of September.
  7. Can't beat a good curry. I like a good jalfrezi (preferably chicken), but I love a good vindaloo and on some occasions a phaal (usually during the winter). Yes, I do like a nice spicy curry.
  8. I voted for "I felt cheated out of a decent July" as it was the closest to my view out of the two options. Whilst it has since turned humid and thus not being the most comfortable of conditions, the first 4 or so days of this spell have been very welcome particularly after such a lackluster July and average at best August. Even though I'm not a fan of high humidity on a personal note, it is interesting to experience from a weather enthusiast's perspective as I believe dew points at 20 Celsius or above is something we haven't experienced before in this country or at least not for a very long time, let alone in September.
  9. This spell has felt lovely over the last few days, but has started to become a little on the uncomfortable side now that it has clouded over and it feels more humid. Dry heat and sunshine is great, but humid heat and overcast not so much. I will however take the humidity if it delivers thunderstorms.
  10. Warm/hot weather does unfortunately seem to bring out the selfishness of people.
  11. 2018 was one of my favourite years as it was kind of like what you are describing, with the snow events including the famous BFTE in winter followed by a hot and sunny summer.
  12. As someone who loves both winter cold and summer heat in equal measure, the cold vs heat debate on here can make for great entertainment.
  13. Do you have an electric blanket? If not then I highly recommend one. Makes the bed feel so snug and you wouldn't want to get out on those cold winter mornings. Cheap to run too. You get heated throws also, which are a lot cheaper to run than using the central heating.
  14. At any time now, the newspapers will be releasing a news story predicting the coldest winter in over a century.
  15. As much as I enjoying this warm spell now, I tend to lose interest in warmth once we have reached the equinox (same with cold weather in spring). But that doesn't mean that I want it to be unsettled unless there is a storm or two. Once we are at the equinox my interest turns to single digit foggy mornings, average daytime temps (mid to late teens) with sunshine followed by cool cosy evenings. I am personally hoping we get those conditions later this month. After that more of those conditions in October along with the first named storm and finally a cool and frosty November with sunshine and another storm at some point. But until the equinox, I am happy for this hot spell to remain.
  16. My mother is often saying that in her ideal world it would be hot and sunny every day all year round and it would only rain at night.
  17. Yeah, the summer thread should probably be archived now.
  18. This spell reminds me of the hot spell we had in September 2016 which was also on the humid side and had some very warm nights. Parts of the country got some good thunderstorms out of it (I didn't sadly). Perhaps this hot spell will too go out with a bang?
  19. Can't believe people are giving up on winter already when we are only just out of summer. This must be a record for the earliest "winter is over" posts yet.
  20. Felt like bumping up this thread seeing as we are going through a hot spell and possibly the best one of the year. Currently I have an indoor temp of 25.1°C and 65% humidity. So a little on the oppresive side but not drastically so.
  21. I was spot on with March and April and half right about May. Perhaps one day I'll be able to correctly predict the winning lottery numbers.
  22. How about the coldest Christmas day on record or the coldest February on record. We are constantly breaking heat records, so it would make a change to break a cold one.
  23. I have a feeling that September will (if not already) give the warmest day of the year in some areas.
  24. This is a beautiful spell of weather and could teach the July just gone a thing or two.
