  1. It has been the first settled weekend over here since June.
  2. I always find that between mid August and Christmas the year tends to really speed up - even more so as one gets older. It's ridiculous that September is less than a fortnight away.
  3. June 2016 was apparently a warm month, despite being unsettled for much of the time. But I don't recall it having any extreme warm temps.
  4. I was 5 and we went on holiday to Southampton during late August/early Sept. It was warm but cloudy for much of the time.
  5. I will always remember Halloween 2014 being very warm with many areas reaching the 20s. I can see that becoming more commonplace soon. As well as 20 Celsius days in February, which often feels more like a spring month nowadays. I don't remember Halloween 2021 too well. But I do remember that autumn took a while to get going, so the fact that Halloween was warm that year doesn't surprise me.
  6. I am sorry to hear that. Hopefully you'll get a much needed dry and usable weekend soon.
  7. I would say around 6 out of 10 as it hasn't been anything to shout about, but still a big improvement over last month. A pretty average August I think.
  8. I personally think we have had more than enough rain and cloud over the last 5 months, so a cold dry and sunny winter will be a very welcome change. The problem with mild winters is that more often than not they are accompanied by dull and wet conditions. I actually feel colder when it is 10 Celsius and wet than when it is 2 Celsius and sunny and dry. In fact, during that cold spell last December I had my heating on for no longer than I did during the milder periods of that winter.
  9. Not a bad day today - alternating clouds and sun, breezy but pleasant and currently 22 Celsius with a forecast top temp for today of 24 Celsius. A fairly standard mid August day.
  10. Hoping for a 2020/21 redux. That winter was quite mixed and had something for everybody.
  11. Whilst generally pleasant, September is an overrated month in my opinion, from a weather enthusiast's perspective. It's usually quite a benign month with summer gradually becoming a distant memory but it doesn't feel properly like autumn yet either. For me personally, the most interesting weather of the autumn doesn't usually happen until October, or late September (from the equinox onwards) in some years.
  12. I found this to be the case in autumn 2021. Nature was very slow that year, with the trees being late to bloom in the spring and late to turn in the autumn.
  13. It isn't unusual for trees to slowly start turning in mid August, in the same way that nature slowly starts coming back to life in February. The turning of the trees does seem to speed up from September onwards though.
  14. As we only have two weeks of meterological summer left and the rest of August is looking to be around average, I feel that now is the time to conclude summer 2023. June: 10/10 July: 2/10 August so far: 6/10 June was by far the best month of this summer, providing us with the most useable days and some most welcome heat and sunshine, particularly after the poor spring. In this neck of the woods and some other areas, we were lucky to have a few thunderstorms too which is something of a rarity these days. July was a very poor summer month, but we did have a thunderstorm or two early on which saves it from being rated as 1/10. In my opinion, July 2023 was equally as bad as July 2007 bar the flooding in the latter mentioned year. Any settled spells didn't last very long and there was very little summer warmth. The first half of August has seen quite an improvement with more in the way of usable days, sunshine and warmth. Quite a mixed bag overall and it looks like the second half of the month is going the same way. Nothing to shout about, but pleasant for much of the time.
  15. Summer 2013, whilst decent compared to the preceding 6 summers, was overrated in my opinion. Only July stands out as being warm and sunny. The other two months were mediocre at best.
  16. If anything, whilst I would of course like all 3 summer months to be great, if given the choice I would value June and July over August as the daylight hours are longer and the sun is at its strongest. I feel the same way about winter cold which I would value more in December and January than I would in February.
  17. It's looking like August is going to be fairly average overall. Despite the warm sunny June and average August, this summer will end up being a poor one in my opinion. Whether it is 20⁰C or 30⁰C, if the summer is cloudy for much of the time then it is poor.
  18. Tomorrow will see the first pre 8:30pm sunset here since 28th of April.
  19. I'm personally not a fan of humidity, though I will take it if we are guaranteed thunderstorms. But otherwise, dry heat is more my sort of thing.
  20. I would love another 2018. With the BFTE and the classic summer it felt like a more seasonal year than other recent years.
  21. I am hoping this isn't the beginning of another series of poor summers.
  22. Very good list, but here's a few things you've forgot to mention: * The prospect of upcoming warm sunny spells getting watered down day by day * Any forecast warm spells end up being overhyped and only a one day wonder * Not being able to spend much time outdoors * Sunny mornings followed by cloudy afternoons A very poor summer indeed.
  23. I consider round about now to be the end of high summer and the beginning of late summer now that the shortening daylight hours are a lot more noticeable. I also find that between now and Christmas the year whizzes by.
