  1. Each year, I find myself getting less excited over charts showing the possibility of snow because they hardly ever verify, whereas milder than average charts almost always do. Nowadays I just take it as it comes. The UK climate is certainly a trying one for us weather enthusiasts, particularly during the winter season.
  2. I was just about to comment that. Hopefully, a much better July than last year.
  3. Hello. I have noticed that I don't get the option to ignore topics, and topics which I have ignored are now showing up. Is this just me or is it a glitch that is affecting everyone? Thanks.
  4. raz.org.rain I doubt there will be any risk of drought at any time soon. If a drought is declared, then something is seriously wrong.
  5. Yawn. Warm records used to gain my interest, but it happens so frequently nowadays that it has become boring. We need to start breaking some more cold reccords, though it isn't very easy in this increasingly warming climate.
  6. @Don Hello Don, sorry for the late reply. Yes we did get snow round about that time and it was very cold with a low of -13 on on one of those nights.
  7. What is your favourite season from each year in the 00s? I suppose mine would be as follows: 2000 - Winter 99/00 (lots of cold and frosty nights as well as snow at times, particularly during December) 2001 - Spring (a difficult one, but I went for spring as there were many pleasant days, though April wasn't great) 2002 - Spring (a nondescript year, so just chose the best of a boring bunch) 2003 - Summer (a good year all in all for seasonal weather, but I remember summer the most as the best of it coincided with the school summer hols) 2004 - Autumn (another difficult one, so just went for the first one that came up in my head) 2005 - Summer (whilst not the best, it wasn't the worst either) 2006 - Summer (July in particular was warm/hot and sunny for much of the time) 2007 - Spring (April in particular was a lovely month) 2008 - Autumn (autumn wasn't too bad from mid September onwards) 2009 - Winter 08/09 (a cold start to the year with widespread snow. First week of Feb also)
  8. Worst season for each year of the 00s: 2000 - Autumn (exceptionally wet) 2001 - Autumn (mediocre at best) 2002 - Summer (an uneventful year all in all, so I picked the first season that came into my head) 2003 - Winter 02/03 (tricky to decide, but I will say winter only because December wasn't all that great) 2004 - Summer (not a very good summer that year, particularly the July) 2005 - Spring (a mediocre at best spring) 2006 - Spring (two months of that spring were a complete write off) 2007 - Summer (exceptionally wet and the beginning of a series of poor summers) 2008 - Summer (second year of the series. I can remember August in particular being cool and wet) 2009 - Summer (the series continues, though not as bad as the previous two summers)
  9. It was a fairly pleasant day over here - 12 Celsius and dry with sunny intervals. Though another shot of cold at some point during the next few weeks would be nice, preferably with snow but crisp and sunny would be great also. Despite the lengthening daylight hours, we are at the coldest point of the winter season now, so there is still plenty of time yet.
  10. @raz.org.rain It's certainly wild out there tonight. Even more so than Isha I think.
  11. @markyo I can't imagine you ever needing to have the heating on anyway.
  12. @Don Indeed. I am so tired of that old chestnut which has been cropping up almost every day on here over the last couple of months. Back on topic, I have a feeling that at some point during Feb will provide us with another cold spell before winter is out. Winter does frequently arrive back with a vengeance after false springs.
  13. I do a like a good cosy storm every now and then, but it has happened so often this winter that it has now become boring and I want a break from them. Hoping February gives us some more crisp and sunny weather. Snow would be nice too.
  14. February seems to be turning more into a spring month these days. I wouldn't be surprised if we see another 20C day in February at any time in the next few years. Becoming more commonplace as the years and decades go on.
  15. I like weather to be seasonal in all four seasons. So I am not a fan of warm autumns just as much as I'm not a fan of cold springs. But here's a general summary: Late November to early March - I am interested in cold during this period. By the time we get to March my interest starts switching to more springlike conditions, though I am still happy for it to remain wintry during early to mid March. Mid March to end of May - Fully in spring mode now and no longer interested in cold. During this period, I like it to be mild or warm with sunshine and showers. June to early September - Warm or hot sunny days with thunderstorms is what I am interested in during this period. Much like with winter lasting up to mid March, I am happy for summer to last up to mid September though my interest does wane as I begin the transition into autumn mode. Mid September to mid November - I have lost all interest in warmth by this point and start looking for something more autumnal, though that doesn't necessarily mean unsettled unless it's a good storm or two (not constant mind, like during this winter). Mild or cool sunny days with chilly nights is what I am mostly after during this period.
  16. I personally find that prolonged false springs more often than not seem to lead to mediocre at best springs. I'd much rather have spring like days during the actual spring when the daylight hours are longer and to keep nature in sync. Winter also always seems to arrive back with a vengeance after a false spring, which is a shock to the system for not only us but also for nature. April 2021 synoptics during March would be good.
  17. I think searching for a needle in a haystack is easier than searching for cold these days.
  18. This is why I don't hold my hopes up anymore when it comes to cold. It almost always gets watered down, pushed back or cancelled altogether. Milder than average on the other hand almost always verifies.
  19. August 2022 was decent, though I do agree it would be nice to have another decent one as there haven't been many decent Augusts over the last 20 or so years. Since 2004, only 2016 and 2022 stand out as being decent.
  20. I am going for a largely unsettled March, then an April of two halves with it being quite cool and unsettled during the first and dry sunny and at times warm during the second, then a largely warm and settled May with thunderstorms later on.
