  1. Wrong year lol. This is the 1985 thread. I agree with you about 1994 seeing a return to the milder months, as 1991 until first half of 1994 saw some colder months. Despite this, a colder than average month or two will still appear from time to time.
  2. I would rather 18-21c with sunny periods instead of any late artic blasts, now we are into the second week of March. And can give way to poor summer conditions between June and August.
  3. When I look back at 1985, I just remember staying at my mum’s friend’s house in Thornton Heath(South London), for two weeks in July. The weather was warm and sunny for many days during that time. The Word Girl by Scritti Politti was played on the radio all the time. Sat and watch some of the Live Aid concert, while sitting in the garden. Probably the best spell of what was a poor summer. August was cold and damp, and we spent a week in Sussex. The weather was miserable.
  4. For some reason I don't remember much of this year. I was 9 at the time. The standout weather memory is the hot weekend while Live Aid was on. Also recall a sunny late May half term, and we went for a day trip to Hastings. Think that might have been the only settled period in what was a cold spring.
  5. I don't care what anyone says, it has been cold recently, and even if February 2022 was mild, there were still some chilly days. The period during Eunice was fairly cold. Even last weekend, although nice and sunny with clear skies, was pretty cold in the wind and out of the sunshine. To some, anything above 5c might feel mild, but I could argue that when conditions are damp or very windy temps in the 6-12c bracket can still feel cold. Once we hit the mid teens, I feel more comfortable, and even then I still need a light jacket or fleece. Hmm, not where i was. London was overcast and rainy during the afternoon. That being said, we had it good last Saturday and Sunday.
  6. It’s another cold morning. I wished I stayed in bed and called in sick. It’s not worth it.
  7. Late April 2018 was where it became more much pleasant, but the first part of the month was more or less a continuation of the chilly weather of March 2018. Granted, May 2018 was a perfect month and very sunny. Also a dry heat, and it lead into a very warm June, July and first part of August. We’ve not had a better spell of sunny months since. April-early June 2020 was nice enough though, and will be memorable because of the lockdown and how nice the weather was.
  8. 2021 was depressing all the way through to be honest. It never really warmed up properly. The sunny April was nice, but still cold even during the daytime. May, which usually shows us a decent warm sunny spell, failed miserably and we were left with a cold dull windy month. Only the last week had a few warm sunny days. The first half of June and mid to late July was decent with two hot spells. August was pitiful, and at times fairly chilly, and very cloudy. September was fairly pleasant. Hopefully, we don’t get a repeat of summer 2021, which in my opinion was the most boring for many years.
  9. Yes that’s true, but once we head past St Paddy’s Day, I look more forward to warmer days, and don’t really want any snowfall beyond that point. The first two weeks of March is fine, but anything beyond that is tiresome. I found the early spring of 2018 quite trying, because the cold lingered a bit, even into April it was still cold at times before the warm up. Same goes for 2013.
  10. Someone above posted about how the heat was dry during the start of the hot weather. It felt like a dry heat in June, during that first hot spell, then turned more humid during July. The late June storms also brought very warm humid nights.
  11. I think 1994 was very thundery, alongside 1992 and 1999, as the best years in the 90s for storms.
  12. I recall the thunder snow in London, but I think that was late January. The first half of feb 2004 was cold or chilly, then we had a few really mild days with temps up to 16 or 17c in London. Like others have said, it was a mild winter, but 03/04 had some very cold days at times.
  13. I think that was the last time February had a daytime max of 16-17c in London, until 1987.
  14. I think this was one of the more interesting years in the 90s. January was a mixed month, cold and mild, with some light snow showers at some point. February was cold, not exceptionally, but still fairly chilly. Remember the snow in London around mid month, which was the heaviest since 1991, although I recall being slightly underwhelmed by it compared to 1991. The windchill was very cold on February 14th. March, and things became much milder and quite spring like. I remember the early part of March was quite warmish, around 15-17c and in the March sun feeling quite warm. The rest of the month was quite dull and mixed, with some cool days among the milder ones. April was mixed, and I remember quite a few chilly rainy and sunny days. The sunny spells and showers with a cold wind being a feature, so it was quite typical. Also we had a few warm sunny days later into the month. May started off on the warm side but not hot. Mostly high teens and low 20s with sunny clear days and cool nights, but it became quite cold and dull during the second half of the month. The cold and dull weather continued into early June, which at the time I found to be really strange. After several warm springs, I think this probably came as a shock, but the second half of June made up for the late start to getting some warmer weather. It turned hot towards the end of June and the famous severe storms of Friday 24th came about during a hot week of 28-32c weather. Definitely a notable storm for London and the south. Similar to late august 1987, as the storm moved in during late Friday evening and into the night. July was hot and sunny for many days, some humid and more storms broke out. It was the hottest July since 1983 at the time. August was a slight disappointment, but with more storms and still some hot days at the start of the month. The heat didn’t stick around though, so naturally it started to feel more like autumn by late August. September was disappointingly cold and dull with not much warmth, after a decent summer, it was a bit of a blow. October had a cold start, then a really warm second week. November was very mild and dull. December was very mild with some cold days the week before Christmas.
  15. Have faith. I think if we get all the wet and damp stuff mixed with some cold out of the way, come mid to late March we will see some warmth. I’m going for a slow burner advance into spring this year though, and perhaps a slightly wetter one, so think it will be May before we see a prolonged sunny warm spell. 1994 was like that. Cold and warm in March, and some warm spells in April in between some cold wet days. But, May 1994 was cold and damp.
  16. Yes. Between 1984 and 1995ish, the Indiana films were regular Christmas time staples. My younger brother, born in 1989, even remember watching them during the early 90s as a 4-5 year old. His favourite is Temple. Plus, they didn’t cut the kebab scene in the opener, like they do now if the film is shown before 7pm.
  17. Cheeky Monkey just loves to be argumentative doesn't he. Christmas 1986 was nowhere near as mild. It was average and cloudy I think, but Chrimbo 87 was like a spring day. And to add, Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom premiered on BBC1 that day. Happy days!
  18. I don’t remember Christmas Day 82, although I heard it was average to mild, 83 was mild. I thought 84 was cold no? I was talking about the clear sunny weather on Christmas Day 1987 with the mild temps.
  19. I know I keep banging on about that Christmas, but as an 11 year old, there was something of a novelty to witnessing a very mild sunny Christmas Day.
  20. You make a good case for the transition to milder winter conditions from December 1987 onwards. I remember the very mild Christmas, but from reading your stats from June and August, you mention some very warm and humid air masses with cloudy weather. Before summer 1987, did we get warm and very humid cloudy conditions? Because I feel this might be a feature of the milder U.K. climate since the year in question. Humid cloudy conditions seem to be more frequent, but that’s not to say they never happened before 1987. The warming might have taken place sometime in the summer of 87. Something happened in the Atlantic that year, where the westerlies became much warmer and more persistent. Just a wild guess on my part.
  21. I hope my second option doesn’t come true, but I have a sneaking suspicion we will pay for the dry January and early February, and drier than average winter on the whole. If we have a rotten spring, maybe, just maybe we will be rewarded by a warm sunny August.
  22. Just a wild guess at this stage, but here's my prediction. What I would like to happen : early to mid March feeling cold and cloudy, with the threat of snow showers or periods of cold and damp conditions. Some clear sunny days, with frosty nights. Mid month to the close, average or slightly milder conditions with dry sunny spells and warm in the sunshine. Nights will still be on the cold side. April, a repeat of 2020, with a few wet and cool days. Nights will be warmer at times, but still cold enough for some frost. May, a mix of 2020 and 2021, but with a cool damp start, and a warm sunny second half with long dry spells. What I think will happen(playing devil's advocate here) March : Unsettled and cold with longer periods of wet and windy weather, on and off until the final week. Turning drier and slightly milder with sunny spells, but still feeling chilly out of the sun. April: rinse and repeat. Similar to March, with a wet and windy first half and feeling cold. Second half damp and wet with a warmer feel, maybe even turning humid and thundery. May : Warm muggy and cloudy, with longer spells of rain. It will be a mix of humid and cool or cold days underneath all the cloud and rain. A dismal month, but not as cold as May 2021. Will turn sunny and hot in the last few days of the month, into the first week of June. Storms will break out during the bank holiday thursday and friday in the first week. One plus side, will be the thunderstorms lol.
  23. Yeah, it wouldn't surprise me if we are heading into another mediocre summer. At worst, we will probably see 4 weeks of sunny warm days at some point between April and September, in between 2 months of cloudy dull weather.
  24. A fairly non-descript day. Slightly windier than normal and feeling cold in the wind. Haven't noticed anything close to the level of The Great Storm of 1987.
