  1. More storms in London right now. Round 2.
  2. IMG_5047.mov Just a few vids, while I take a stroll in Waterlow Park, Highgate in north London. Great views of central London from here. This area got covered in snow last December for a number of days, due to the elevation. Can hear distant rumbles now. But not sure it’s going to hit us in London. Might be Sod’s Law, Ealing could be under the storm right now lol.
  3. I might take a trip up to Highgate and walk around Waterlow Park. Hopefully it stays dry for the first half of the day.
  4. To be fair, I think this is probably the best week of weather since June. Felt fresher today though while still warm in the sun. The fat lady doesn’t sing until mid September for me. Still time for another blast of mid to high 20s before we pull the curtain down on Summer 23.
  5. Please stop doing this! Lol The only way i rival this is a video in glorious London over the weekend. Looks perfect to me. A proper summer over there, and they will have a proper winter to follow.
  6. Ealing. We had zero snow. Just icy roads.
  7. I didn’t get any snow in London, but I do remember the cars covered in ice all day. I don’t think the daytime highs during the first half of December exceeded 3-5c in London most days. It was very cold in the mornings. Remember -5 or below on quite a number of mornings and overnight temps. Not quite yet. Still time for another 25-27c late blast before we open the door to full autumn.
  8. Perfect example of weather memories is also attached to holidays as a child, like summer 1983. We spent a week in the Isle of Wight during August that year, and I remember Club Tropicana being played quite often on the radio lol. We also went back to the same spot the following summer, which was also hot and sunny. So, I guess this is where my love of hot or warm sunny summers come from. If I was 7-8 years of age during say 1980-81, maybe I would see summer in a different light. I always tend to have a good memory about where I’ve been on holidays, either in the U.K. or abroad, unless they are really bad. That tends to be a very rare occurrence though. Anyway, don’t want to derail the topic, otherwise I’ll be brought back into the back office for another disciplinary.
  9. I hope my ideal weather for summer comes off next year. I don’t think you will find many people either side complaining
  10. Yeah, even 1985 I think had some 25-27c days in September, after what was a very poor summer. I used to read Trevor Harley’s website, for checking weather history. Let’s move to Ireland
  11. Wishing our lives away. You need to find joy in the less favourable seasons, and make the most of them. Take a walk to the river, or head to a park. I know that sounds like madness when it’s colder, but on a dry day I’ll always pop out for a few hours. The worst aspect of our autumn and winters are the damp rainy conditions.
  12. It’s a bitter pill isn’t it. I think it’s because the main summer period was poor for sunshine levels, so it’s going to make the decline back into the colder months, all that more difficult. Perhaps will might get lucky and have a sunny winter.
  13. I work outside some of the time for my job. I tend to remember very warm or cold periods quite easily. Don’t ask me about Autumn though, as that’s usually my blank spot. I have good memory, but I can’t remember stuff relating to my job. I don’t always retain relevant pieces of information.
  14. I think he means it’s more or less cool and grey for longer periods of time from late September until April or early May. So a window of 2-3 months when we can expect to enjoy some warm or even hot sunny weather from time to time, shouldn’t be too much to ask for.
  15. The thing about that hot spell in June was, it felt quite dry. It was a nice heat. The flat warmed up nicely, but I feel it was a welcome relief from the persistent chilly weather that outstayed it’s welcome until May this year. That all seems like a long time ago now.
  16. It’s now 8:30 when the darkness is creeping in. Definitely speeding up now.
  17. We used the fan in June, but to our surprise we haven’t needed it since early July. It’s just not been hot enough for it. Warm yes, but not stuffy hot.
  18. Yeah. I think the night time temps will start to drop off once we move into the second week of September. That’s usually when I notice the heat starting to fade. Sometimes I start to need to use the heating just to take the chill off the flat. Not for too long, but once those evening temps drop into the high singles, it does feel like a shock to the system initially, and the thermostat starts to display 17-18c indoor temps. It’s been in the 22-24c bracket for the last 2 or so months, but once the warm nights cool off, the change and feel of summer fading really kicks in. Yes that’s interesting. I think winter could go either way. Still a very long way off.
  19. June 23 felt like June 2018 for me. July 23 felt like 2009, but with less thundery activity. August 23 feels like a similar month to August 2009.
  20. Nights have been warmer overall since the middle of June. Give or take a few coolish nights. But, it’s not been overly hot at night, apart from June and these past two nights. Granted, last night felt quite hot.
  21. Yes that’s the truth. But, I remember while at school, the first week of the school holidays would seem to go at a nice slow pace. By mid August, you already feel that pull of ‘back to school’ which I hated lol.
  22. Well, let’s see if summer 2024 pans out like that. It would be the perfect balance between hot and cool, with also some good storms and enough rain.
  23. I think a compromise would be a summer like this, to keep the balance for both sides : First half of June - cool and sunny, with 2-3 days of rain. From the 10th onwards much warmer temps between 23-26c with wall to wall sunshine. Nights still cool until the 20th. A hot spell from the 21st until the closing day of June, several days of 28-31c. Nights become much warmer. July - a hot first week of 27-32c with long periods of sunshine, but by week 2 thunderstorms will be quite widespread. Temps will drop to low 20s with 5 days of overcast and cool daytime highs. Nights will be cool during this period. Unsettled between the 8th until the 18th. 19th until the close of July - a drier sunnier period with average daytime temps of 21-23c, with a cool breeze and some fluffy cloudy days. August - a very warm first 10 days, with a heatwave and temps between 26-32c, with the hottest day of the year reaching 34c on August 10th. Severe storms break out in many areas between the 10th until the 12th. Much cooler and more unsettled between 11-20th august. Cool daytime highs if 20-21c, with some 19c days during this period. August 20th until the 25th will see the last hot spell of the summer with daytime highs of 25-28c, and long periods of sunshine. Feeling warm and humid into the evening. Much cooler from 26th until the 31st. Daytime temps will be around 21c, but dropping to 18c by the close and nighttime temps dropping to low 10s. That would be my perfect summer in a 12 week period, even with unsettled poor weather in the mix.
  24. Data is just that. If you were on the east coast during the first half of June, I doubt many would remember it as ‘hottest on record’. It was very regional at times.
