  1. No, it’s not just the weekends. The weekdays have seen many periods of poor overcast rubbish.
  2. Summers 1983 and 84, also 89 were far better than anything from June 2023. This summer was below par for me personally. Too many weeks of dull miserable weather, and it happened in the peak of the summer. July 2013 was brilliant, August 2013 was lovely down in London. It’s regional though, because I didn’t think 21 was great, and others really enjoyed that summer.
  3. June did provide plenty of sunshine and long clear evenings, but July and the first half of August has been very lacking for long sunshine levels. I’m just hoping we’ve turned a corner, and get some much needed hot and sunny weather back.
  4. Summer 2010 started off quite warm or hot, especially late May( after a cold first half) and warm sunny June. It kind of went downhill in July with more cloudy days and by August it was mostly cool and dull. The worst august since 1993 and coolest since 86.
  5. Yes it was during those poor summers of 2007-12. When you look back, it’s really shocking just how many poor summers there were between 2006, and we had to wait until 2013 before another hot summer month. It does seem like a shift has taken place since late 2013 to something more changeable and unpredictable, but there’s also still a chance of a poor summer being followed by a cold winter month. Also, snow settled in London on more than 3 winters in a row back then. I don’t even remember the 80s snowing as often as that in London.
  6. I’ll be down in Dawlish, so I bet the London area will get hit by storms on Friday night, and I’ll miss it lol. It’s also 36 years ago this coming Friday, since those August 21st 1987 severe storms.
  7. I think that’s the way it is with the southern U.K. It’s always been a mild climate with some years having no real defined seasons. It’s either cold in some years or just a mild dreary mulch of autumn and spring mixed in. Sometimes we get a 2018 where it seemed the balance between cold and hot were more defined. Before that was 2013. It hasn’t happened again, so the 5 year trend means nothing in 2023. They did that to my local in 2013, during the hot July lol.
  8. I think the last 6-7 weeks is far more tedious and boring compared to the lovely sunny days of summer 2022. I was never bored with it. This summer however, has been just one long boring monotonous waste of time. Unsettled and cloudy for weeks on end. Now that’s what I call boring. Most people haven’t been able to enjoy the best things that summer can offer. People have been more moody as well. Especially the lack of sunshine levels, and it’s not like we have lots of sunshine at the best of times. There’s been no variety. It’s just constant dull dreary and November like conditions, during most of July and the first half of August. This is a real kick in the teeth after a rather miserable and cool spring, which at times felt like an extension of winter.

  10. I feel like we are aboard the ship in the film (The Black Hole), and slowly descending into the darker season, without being able to enjoy the summer properly. Once we get past the bank holiday, summer is kind of over, and by mid September it’s done.
  11. Summer 23 is just as bad as 2007 and 12. I would argue it’s even worse than 12. At least 12 had a hot last week of July and some decent early August weather, but on balance 2012 had a terrible June period. There’s no getting away from it, despite the warming climate, this summer in the U.K. has been one of the worst.
  12. Oh yes, 2023 is. It’s hideously bad. 85-88 were poor years, but 2023 isn’t any better. It’s been weeks of miserable weather. The warm spell of June 2023 isn’t enough to save it for me. A warm or hot June won’t mean anything if July and august that follow are poor. Most people will agree with me. It’s just a fact.
  13. Fair enough, you don’t feel the cold like others, and I don’t feel the heat like others. I thought it was still pretty chilly well into May, and even early June still felt cold in London. The times I’ve not had a jacket or top on, was during that June warm sunny spell. Other than that, I haven’t been able to wear shorts outside for more than a couple of days.
  14. People who hate summer and long spells of clear blue skies, also people who seem to enjoy damp dreary and miserable cloudy conditions. 23c is nice if it’s sunny, but with cloudy weather and a cool breeze it’s just not warm enough. 23c and a breeze will often lead to a cooler evening or a humid one, but most people will need to have a light jacket or hoodie on, if they want to sit outside of an evening. A nice summers evening is when you can still sit outside comfortably, without feeling cold with a t shirt on. There hasn’t been any days like that during July and most of August. It’s been a very poor summer. 27-28c feels like proper summer warmth for me. And it’s something we usually get. It’s not abnormal like a few people on here love to suggest it is.
  15. Yeah, but a good summer will produce at least a solid 7-10 days worth of 27-32c between late May and late August. I agree with you, and summer 23 has failed big time.
  16. That’s why I prefer the continental climate. Better summers and colder snowy winters.
  17. Not unless it’s sunny. If it’s cloudy, it’s rubbish. Most people do. Most people I know prefer summer 2022 over the garbage of 2023. Most people do. Most people I know prefer summer 2022 over the garbage of 2023.
  18. Unfortunately we’ve had to put up with 19-23c on most days this summer. It’s just not warm enough.
  19. 1985 had a much better July in London. I remember it being hot and sunny.
  20. Possibly the worst summer in my opinion. No long periods of warmth or settled weather. Today is looking nice, but it’s just another short lived settled period. Heading down to Devon ok Friday, and it looks like a washout.
  21. Lol, I love snow and was excited to see it during the first winter I spent in Toronto. But, after 5-10 days of it, it soon wears thin. I got sick and tired of seeing it during winter 2000/01, as that was one of their coldest and snowiest at the time.
  22. Yeah, the last phase of summer. By mid September is when I feel we are in full autumn mode, as it’s dark until almost 6am, and evenings are dark by 7pm. That’s usually when I start to notice the drop in temperatures.
  23. Woke up at 4:30 this morning, and it was still dark. Started getting light around 4:40ish. Mid August now, so definitely moving into that late summer stage. Peak summer ended this past weekend for me.
