  1. Those mid 2010s years did produce some hefty storms. Sorry 10s I’ve been harsh on you lol.
  2. Oh yeah, I remember that. The Referendum storms as I used to call them lol. That was also one week before England were humiliated by getting knocked out by Iceland during Euro 2016 lol. I remember there being distant rumbles from an earlier storm around 10-11pm the previous evening, but another band of organised thunderstorms hit the London area between 2-4am. It did seem to last for ages and was very loud and violent. A similar set of overnight storms happened in mid July 2017. Think it was a weeknight, midweek. And another one was late May 2018. Violent storms with torrential heavy rain and high winds. Haven’t seen a decent storm so far in the 2020s, but time will tell.
  3. 30c? My god, please be careful. The beer will dehydrate you even more. I will stick to my soggy sausage rolls and warm lager, thank you very much! That view is amazing Lol let’s not go there. I was taken to Coventry last week over my comments about June and the summer this year
  4. I would say August 23 is better than August 21, so it’s slightly better than that vile summer month. It was consistently dull, with only a couple of warm sunny days. This august is just slightly better than that.
  5. Looks stunning out there. Might try to convince my partner about maybe checking out Central Europe. Shes Latvian though, so it’s almost like telling us to take our holidays in Wales. Joking, but I can’t understand why people don’t explore neighbouring countries, even if they are similar. If money was no object or I had a job which enables me to live in several different locations during the year, I would choose these ones. Munich, and the surrounding countryside to the south. North Sardinia, Golf Aranci in particular is a very nice part of the world. Finally, Jelgava in Latvia. Maybe spend a month or 6 weeks in London just to catch up with family and friends, but my time here would be very limited.
  6. This summer has gone too quick. It always seems to speed up after the end of May, then it’s September again lol.
  7. I blame Simon Cowell and all those talent shows. I blame Katherine Kennedy for the rubbish films, and I’ll blame Boris Johnson for the weather.
  8. Do they rival that August 1981 pitch black daytime darkness storm? That was the crème de La crème of classic storms. If we had a storm like that now, you just now it would be down to ‘climate change’ lol
  9. It’s the same with everything now. Less interesting weather, music and new films. Pretty much everything has become tedious and bland since the mid 2010s. As Blur said on one of their albums ‘modern life is rubbish’ lol. I joke, but it does feel like the good stuff is hard to come by now.
  10. Didn’t we get a notable one last October on a Sunday afternoon? It was pretty severe if memory serves me well. And I had a couple of overnight storms last august, although quite brief.
  11. Yes, I remember the mid to late 80s getting some long lasting nighttime storms. 1987 in particular stands out for me. Central and Eastern Europe seems to do well, but also many parts of the continent will get notable nighttime storms. My Latvian folks said they were hit by a 6 hour string of storms last Friday between 6pm and midnight. It’s been hot and humid out that way. I would love to spend an entire summer in Latvia, because they always seem to get one or two notable storms.
  12. It was still like that into the 90s and 2000s. For me personally, the change was noticeable after 2006. Since summer 07 thunderstorms moving up from the south seem to be less frequent, apart from summers of 2013 and 14. Something has definitely changed.
  13. Enjoy the rest of your trip. Sounds like you are really enjoying it. But, you must envy me when I down a pint of Brewdog while watching the Union Jack dangling in the chilly wind in the city
  14. Yes, I went with my partner down to a place called Dawlish. It’s a tiny town in Devon, about 12 miles east of Torquay and just under 10 miles from Exeter. Nice little place. Friday was raining after we arrived, but Saturday and Sunday saw an improvement. It was quite warm around 22-23c in the sunshine. Yeah, this summer rivals anything that was bad during those mid to late 1980s years. The hot sunny June on its own isn’t enough to make it decent.
  15. July 1980 was better than 23. At least it did contain a few very warm and sunny days in the last week or so.
  16. This wasn’t an average summer by a long shot. It’s up there with the worst. Luckily the weather did improve over the weekend I had down in Devon. It rained on the first day, but Saturday and Sunday were warm and sunny in Dawlish. Still had to have a fleece to hand though, when it clouded up in the mornings and feel cool in the breeze.
  17. Well, here we go again. Back to grey cloudy and dull conditions. Hopefully it brightens up later. I’ll rate Summer 2023 for each month. June - 8/10 - Apart from the cool cloudy start, the weather was decent from the 8th until sometime after the 24th or so. Wall to wall sunshine, hot days and long clear evenings. It was the best part of the summer, and at the time I was looking forward to a continuation into July. July - 2/10 - possibly one of the worst ever summer months for lack of sunshine, and coolish temperatures. Although the nights were warmish at times, daytime highs were very poor and sometimes chilly for high summer. The stats were say it’s warmer than previous sunny and warm Julys, but it’s all about how the conditions feel at ground level for me. It was a shocking summer month, and one I hope we don’t see again. August 5/10 - while it’s an improvement on July, that’s not saying much. A rather dull drab continuation of the vile July weather. Only since mid august has the weather actually felt like proper summer. I might rate it a 7, if next week provides more sunshine and warmth, but I’m not holding my breath. Its been a very poor summer, in terms of sunshine and useable days.
  18. My ends? Lol. You sound like a London rude boy. You get me! Hope you enjoyed your break. You went away didn’t you?
  19. Thanks mate. It’s been a busy one, and I was having some down time in Dawlish over the weekend.
  20. A lovely day, and more of what we should have been having during the past 7 weeks of filth. A lovely dry heat feeling earlier today, but it has become more humid, despite the clear conditions. Possibly a precursor to potential storms coming up from France? 27c today in London. Definitely feels like the hottest day we’ve had in the capital since the 8th July, although we had one or two days of nice hot sunshine a couple of weeks ago. August has seen a slight improvement, but it’s still been a poor summer. No other way you can slice it.
  21. Keep talking mate. I’ve lost interest lol. June is one month, not the whole summer. July and August are part of summer, last time I checked!
  22. It’s happened before yes, but we are just judging this summer as it is. It’s been terrible, and I find it hard for anyone to defend it. The people trying to challenge me on this argument are clearly coldies, and people who enjoy summer daytime highs of less than 24c. That’s fine, but it’s just very poor for July and August. A decent sunny summer isn’t too much to ask for.
  23. It wasn’t record breaking for everyone. It was a handful of days tipping 32-33c. Some of the eastern areas of the country were under cold and cloudy conditions at the start. It was warm and sunny. A pleasant month, and not too hot. Shame it didn’t continue to be honest.
  24. That’s your opinion, and that’s fine I personally have not been a fan of this summer. It’s been too cloudy, and some days I’ve had to cancel outdoor activities because of the rain. ‘ It’s been poor for a much longer period of time, over anything that would be deemed as ‘acceptable summer conditions’ for the U.K. Again, I’m from the south, so my expectation of what I see as a good summer, will vary completely from people further north, or people who prefer much cooler weather. Stats don’t mean anything, if it’s been dull for the majority of the summer period. Most people will tell you it’s been a bad summer.
