  1. Glad to hear you’re feeling better now
  2. Yes September 2016 was thundery. It was midweek wasn’t it, after a very hot day. Also September 2014 had overnight storms. Its been about 4 years on the bounce now since I’ve seen a decent thunderstorm in the London area.
  3. My mate in Meopham told me he got storms earlier. Lucky git lol.
  4. No storms here in west London. Absolute zilch so far.
  5. I don’t follow Facebook or Twitter, or any social media for that matter. I just rely on my own personal experiences of a season. At ground level, it’s been a pretty bleak summer season. Mate, I think you went off the beaten track. With all due respect, I think those stats have gone to your head. Just take a seat and enjoy a cold one
  6. Where did I mention social media in my post? All you need to do is ask people on the street, they will tell you it’s been a bad summer. Obviously, this will vary depending on the region, but for the southern areas it’s a general consensus that Summer 23 hasn’t cut the mustard, when it comes to sunshine and longer dry spells.
  7. It’s not just weekends. There’s been many bad days during the work week.
  8. Yes I understand when it comes to stats. But, this summer hasn’t been uncomfortable to work in, and nowhere near hot and sunny like last summer. When asking most people I work with, what they think about summer 23, most will look back and say it was a poor summer. No long spells of sunshine, and some cool or cold evenings, which prevented many from sitting outside in the garden or dining out.
  9. Hmmm? July 2021 was better, as we had a week of hot sunny weather.
  10. This summer hasn’t been very warm. It’s actually had a number of coolish days for the time of year. Yes, we’ve had some humid days and warm nights, but nothing out of the ordinary.
  11. Nobody pays attention to summertime minima. Daytime highs are more important.
  12. This is my argument with people who feel June 2023 was enough to make the summer reasonable. It’s the total opposite if you ask me. Barely 3 weeks of warm sunny days with a few hot days in the mix, but prior to that, we had a couple of sunny weeks in May, with chilly evenings. This all came off the back of a cold winter and chilly spring. July and the first half of August have been woeful to say the least, if you want proper summer weather with good spells of sunshine.
  13. It was one of the worst Julys for lack of sunshine and warmth.
  14. Love and humidity!!! Sounds like a lovers rock song.
  15. I just remember it being grey and depressing for the majority of the month. Granted, I was only 10 at the time, so memories can be hazy from that age. I also remember some overnight storms on a Sunday night some time during August that year. It was two sets of overnight storms. We don’t need an august as cool as 86 to moan, but this year has been fairly meh.
  16. Summer 83, 84, 89 and 90. That’s why I love hot weather in summer and enjoy proper warm summers. It’s not a new phenomenon to want heat in a British summer.
  17. Some people genuinely can’t cope with warmer temps north of 24c. I have a co worker who was moaning the past few days because he felt too hot. But, he also understands why I enjoy the hot sunny weather. He never guilt trips sun lovers though. That’s the difference. Go have a read over on the ‘the worst spring and summer’ thread. It was a real battle on August 16th lol.
  18. We have cooler weather between late September and April or even early May during many years.
  19. Yeah I prefer this to the cool and cloudy conditions.
  20. I’m kind of hoping these are slow moving, because that will mean later evening or overnight storms for london. One can only hope lol.
  21. Exactly this. A warm minima won’t mean much while half the nation is sleeping. The daytime high of 18-19c under overcast skies in high summer is what people will remember from July 2023. That’s very poor summer weather, regardless of weather the stats say it was warmer than previous cool Julys.
  22. Yes, a different feel from the last few days of clear sunny days and hot sunshine with a breeze.
  23. It does feel like a storm might move in later today or into the evening. Just my hunch.
