  1. My partner doesn’t really drink much, and I don’t want to sit in the pub all day. I can do it in west London. I wanted to have an active break with some walking along the beach or the seafront. Looks like a cafe with cakes and a tea will be on the agenda lol.
  2. Think I might cancel my weekend to Dawlish next Friday. If it’s going to be really poor, there will be nothing for us to do.
  3. I hope you all feel better soon. Heading out to work now. It’s one of those typical grey August mornings, when it feels humid but doesn’t feel like summer. More like a mid early October day. Hoping for some more sunshine to break through later or sometime this coming week. Have a good one, and for those who have been feeling unwell recently, get well soon
  4. A few people have it. Feel better soon Yes that’s a shame, but London hasn’t faired much better, despite being a city and further south than you. We’ve had some warm evenings, but most of them are just mild, so you still need a light jacket on to feel a bit warmer. Only a few days including last night was warm enough to walk outside in the evening in just a t shirt.
  5. Yes the further west was better. May 23 was poor for the first half. It did become very sunny in the second half, but still had a chill in the air. The closing days were also a bit disappointing if memory serves me well. It just felt like things took a long time to get going in the south east this year.
  6. How far out of London are you? Hmm ok let’s leave it there
  7. You love a bit of 88/89 action don’t you.
  8. I actually can’t wait for a 20c Christmas period. It’s bound to come sooner or later
  9. May was mostly cold and dull until the 24th(my birthday, which is usually preceded by some warm or even hot days). I know the Mays of 2017-20 probably spoilt me, so expectations were high, but since 2021 May has been a mediocre month.
  10. There were two periods of nuclear war anxiety, the first one being the early 1960s, peaking around 1962 with the Cuban missile crisis, then a period called ‘detente’(a time of less tension between the superpowers). Detente lasted from 1968 and beyond, all the way through the 1970s. But, on Christmas Day 1979 the Soviets invaded Afghanistan, which led Jimmy Carters administration to boycott the Moscow Olympics in 1980. 1980 was the year where nuclear anxiety returned, starting with that invasion in late 79. Many documentaries followed : If the Bomb Drops(1980), which shows a little clip of Protect and Survive. The pamphlet was printed in spring of that year. Kate Bush, UB40 and Peter Gabriel were singing about the threat of war. Many more would follow until 1984ish. A Guide to Armageddon(1982) shows a scenario if London gets hit by a nuclear strike. St Paul’s cathedral explodes, buses and cars catch fire. Quite shocking stuff, although it looks dated now, even to people who watched it at the time. Still though, the period from late 79 until about 1985 was a scary period. I was very young at the time. Anyway, back to storms and hoping for something during the night time next weekend. Would like some dry days as we are down in Devon.
  11. A warm and sunny September of 22-25c would be perfect, with cooler nights in the second half, while staying clear and dry. October being warm and dry, but gradually getting cooler as the month moves along. Starting with a 23-25c daytime high with lots of sunshine, but by Halloween down to 15-17c
  12. June wasn’t anything special. it was still cold and dull at the start of the month, especially in the east. It was a nice spell of sunny hot weather for a couple of weeks. Nothing more, nothing less, and it will be forgotten in a few years. The reverse for me. July 2023 made me feel low, and I was more susceptible to colds for the first time in a summer month for ages. That’s a sign of how bad it’s been.
  13. I’m dying. It’s so unbearable, I decided to go for an evening walk in the local area. I think you also need to be careful. That’s fighting talk lol.
  14. Yeah, I think because June was ‘the hottest on record’ which I beg to differ. It still took some time to warm up, even during that late May period of lovely sunny days, it was still cold in the shade. Like you, I was wearing my winter jacket or fleece until early May, with the odd exception here and then in April. The air still felt cold until early June.
  15. Clouded over again here in the city of London area. The plus side is, it’s dry and quite warm.
  16. I might have a pint later on. It’s Friday after all
  17. I watched The Day after. Another depressing film about nuclear war. Also A British Guide to the End of the World, which is also interesting. Was on bbc4 around late 2019, and is a film with clips from all the shows and documentaries about nuclear war and the threat. Yeah the woman urinating and the melting milk bottles. It’s just something the bbc or any other British tv channel would be too scared to make now. They seem to stop making shows of that kind in the early 2000s.
  18. I think I watched it in 1985, then again in high school in the early 90s.
  19. I’m hoping it’s at least warm and dry for next weekend. Heading down to Dawlish on the 18th until the 20th.
  20. I thought I was the only one who saw that film. What a depressing film it was.
  21. It’s way too much. I need the grey cloudy weather to bring back my sore throat and cold.
