Just back from a walk in my local park:
snow lovers dream criteria:blowing snow - check
white out conditions - check
freezing temperatures- that leave any bit of you, exposed, very red - checkI'm running out of superlatives to describe it, this is up there with 2010-little did i think i would see anything like that again. I guess if i was guaranteed this ever year i would not appreciate it as much

a friend of mine posted this about the above image:
"The model itself is based on the 'Hirlam' output, which is one of the best hi-res models available. As far as I am aware, it updates every 6 hours on the Met site, usually around 4pm, 10pm 4am & so on."

bank that, hope that is right
Yes. It would be fantastic to go out with a bang... Whatever happens from now on we will remember this period of weather for a long time to come.

Just popped into the South West thread and it seems the Hirlam has everything for tomorrow shifted a bit further east.
Hirlam seems to be fairly accurate from what i've heard. Please let this shift more east!

I doubt very much that that is the end of the ppn for today. The North Sea is still being very productive, with a good stream of shower activity (albeit lighter) heading towards NW London. Still more top-up's to come.
EDIT: Lovely pictures Moogyboobles!
Well it looks like you are right- light snow here at the moment.

The shower broke up.. That seems to be it for today. It will be interesting to see how low the temperature gets here overnight.
-
Another shower seems to be imminent. I hope it does not break up.

Still some uncertainty so the further south and west the better, so you may still do pretty well tomorrow into Friday.
Thanks.
I just need one more day- even a few hours of heavy snow will do. Then i can handle it geting milder over the weekend

Just measured 6cm! Fallen in a hour impressive.
I’ve seen nothing but dusting in five years, the snow shield has well and truly imploded still coming down steadily!
It's just cloudy here now. 5cm of snow on the ground. Impressive!

A shame it had to end. Ah well::)

Well it has in fact become very light now. I wonder is that it? If so thank you snow, you were worth the wait:)

It’s a lot heavier than the radar shows here... the estuary is the best.
Is Surrey part of this effect? The snow has got a bit lighter- but it's still fairly heavy, just not quite the whiteout conditions of earlier

The yellow alert did say 1-3cms, with up to 10cm locally.
ok. fair enough. there is about 5 cm here. how much longer do you think this will last?
-
At this rate i might be stuck down here, or have to get alternative transport home. Am i right in thinking the Met Office did not forecast this?

Not hendon just getting very fine powder
Sorry. I am in Surrey at the moment. I live near Cricklewood so it's more than likely the same in Cricklewood as it is in Hendon.

So it will last 15 minutes then clear. Why can't it keep going. Come on snow don't give up that easily. We've waited long enough.
