That unfortunately can happen at any time hence what happened near me in Hayes ... so it’s not just snow events !

Oh i know it can happen any time. There is a school near me that gives a stark reminder of this outside of its gates, there is a sign that says a child is killed every hour by a Vehicle. I just think in these conditions the rate could increase without these precautions being taken. I have had motorists encouraging me to hurry up while driving. I was going 35 miles an hour on secondary roads that had compacted snow on them with temperatures below freezing. So it was not as if i was driving like a nervous ninny.

Why do they shut schools fgs ! We already have a breed of snowflake children ( so the government say ) we played in the snow ,Walked to school ... teachers even walked in ! Only time we was sent home is if the heating went down :nonono: ...

I would prefer this approach be taken than to be reading about a child being killed or injured on there way to school. Have you seen how some people drive recklessly in these conditions?

@Bricriu the remains of the streamers early on still giving light showers across London. 1am radar update looking good low and associated precip now around 50 miles north east of HIRlam modelling at this time. looking really could for all in south tomorrow. believe it or not central London currently looking the sweet spot that will have the Met office worried when they wake up!!

the snow has stopped here now, it's just cloudy. i wonder will it clear up before the precipitation from the low gets here? or will it just suddenly starts snowing again?

Home after chaos on the rails again.....train failures and points problems aplenty today.

If the HIRLAM grabs are correct, the worst is yet to come....you'd think that some warnings would be extended already though, given that it already visible in the Channel....

I think you mean the best is maybe yet to come:yahoo:

    I'm with you mate! :)

This is probably my favourite snow day I have experienced thus far, including the infamous 18th December 2010 day which bought 10inches to my area. I have never felt it so biting cold! :cold:

The difference with this day (For my area) is that the cold and snow is just kept on going and going! :D

Yes. While 2010 may have had more accumulated snow, this is just jaw dropping in terms of cold(-1 c here all day). We'd struggle to get this in the depths of winter  during a cold spell, so it's just amazing to think it 's the end of February.
