Very autumnal here today. Initially a cloudy start with some light rain/drizzle, now into the afternoon we have more persistent rain with sudden bursts of heavy downpours.
What are the chances of this low pressure system being named by the Met Office? Seems like it will be more disruptive to the majority of the UK compared to Storm Ellen?
Frequent heavy downpours here in Leicester. Nothing thundery however I’m surprised of its intensity as there’s been no sun at all here today. Full dull but something is fuelling them?
Looks like low pressure is going to dominate early next week, moving up from the south. Whether it'll be of any interest is another question, although in the latest Met Office video they loosely used the term heavy and possibly thundery downpours.
Met Office;
“With those high temperatures comes the risk of severe #thunderstorms this afternoon and evening, becoming mainly focused across central and southern areas overnight”
Twice in a row the West Midlands have 'stole' our fun. Humid and muggy as anything but dry as a bone here in the East Midlands. How's our luck looking for the next few days?
What sort of conditions would the highlighted area around Leicestershire deliver if it came into fruition?
Looks pretty knife edge but those purples look quite alarming.
@Paul Sherman I’m no expert but perhaps there’s a link with the SE naturally being the warmest part of the country which is causing a negative effect on storm development?
Almost like it’s too hot/dry for moisture to build up?
I’ve noticed quite a few times storms developing north or west of London growing and intensifying as they move north, with temperatures not being quite as hot as the SE.
